Badass Birthday
Today we travel back to 1768 and the birthday of Dolley Madison.
Dolley was the wife of our 4th President James Madison. But that alone is not what gets her on here. When the British attacked DC during the War of 1812 and ransacked the White House, she was there without her husband. And word came late they were in the area. She had to leave in a rush, but she had the presence of mind to cut the portrait of George Washington out of its frame, roll it up and take it with her. Also, after leaving the White House, and her husband's later death, Dolley moved back to DC and lived on LaFayette Square across from the White House and became something a social icon in the city, hosting gatherings of all kinds well into her 70s. Dolley Madison passed in 1849 at the age of 81, having lived the life of a true badass!
