My birthday song, my happy world (Part 246)......

 Badass Birthday

On this date, in 1961 in Brooklyn New York, Eddie Murphy was born.

He was a standup comedian as a teenager, and a regular on Saturday Night Live at 19.  He was on the show at a low point in it's history, but he was a break out star.  Gumby, Buckwheat, Mr. Robinson, Velvet Jones, etc.

He left the show for a movie career:

48 Hrs
Trading Places
Beverly Hills Cop
Golden Child
Coming To America
Nutty Professor
Mulan (voice)
Dr. Doolittle
Shrek (voice)

He had a kind of music career....which was thankfully not long lasting.

He's been nominated for an Oscar and a BAFTA, won a Golden Globe with 5 other nominations, won a Grammy (for his comedy album) and nominated for two others, won an Emmy and nominated for 4 others, and won a Screen Actors Guild Award and nominated for another one.

Also, there's a damn good documentary about his life called Being Eddie.  Saw it not too long again, very well done.
