I would not sell my collection, if I did, I would cry (Part 36)...

Today In The History Of Polt's Comic Book Collection

Today, we go back to December 1986.  I was just finishing my first semester at Shippensburg University.   It was just after the midterm elections of November 1986 when the Democrats retook the Senate and gained 5 seats to retain control in the House.  My paternal grandfather was only a few months away from his death.  The Cosby Show was the #1 tv show and "Walk Like An Egyptian" by the Bangles was the #1 song.

AND the final issue of The Man Of Steel miniseries came out.  Earlier in the year, after the conclusion of the Crisis On Infinite Earths that rearranged the entire DC Universe, the powers that be gave Superman to John Byrne.  He wiped away nearly 50 years of Superman history and started over: Superman was never active as a teen, so there was never any Superboy; Superman was the LAST survivor of Krypton, so no Supergirl, or Krypto, or bottled city of Kandor.  Lex Luthor went from a mad scientist type to an uber rich greedy businessman (frankly, in the mold of Donald tRump himself).  And this six issue miniseries laid all the ground work for what was to come.  (of course everything has again been changed, but that's a different post).  It was written by, drawn by, and I believe even inked by John Byrne.  And it was a totally brand new Superman.
