When all the little ants are marching.....

So, back in 1977, when I was but a wee Polt, I went to the local movie to see this disaster/horror movie: Empire Of The Ants!

It was a time of Poseidon Adventure, Towering Inferno, and Earthquake (all of which I also saw in that theater).  In this case, it involved giant radioactive ants terrorizing and killing a group of people come to a Florida island to look at purchasing real estate.  They get picked off one by one or in twos until only a ragtag few of them get away.

It was TOTALLY AWESOME to my 10 year old mind!  I loved it!

For some reason, I thought of it today, don't know why.  And when I got home, I checked on ROKU to see it it was streaming anywhere....and it WAS.  So I watched it.

Oh dear GOD it was horrible.  It looked like an 70's made for TV movie...which it might have been, who knows?  It starred Joan Collins....yes THAT Joan Collins.  And whoever the Sergeant who was in charge of the cops in CHiPS.   And that was the only ones I knew.  But the split screen "special effects" weren't special at all.  The giant ants who actually attacked people up close looked they were made for a high school production of something.   Middle school actually.  The dialogue was laughable.  The storyline.....groanworthy.

Oh it was just terrible.  I shouldn't have watched it.  I should have just allowed it to remain a positive memory in my head.  It's not as bad as "Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes" but it's pretty damn close.
