I would not sell my collection, for if I did, I would die (Part 39)...

Today In The History of Polt's Comic Book Collection

Today we travel back twenty-five years to March of 1994, and Marvels #3.

This mini-series was written by Kurt Busiek and painted by the always amazing Alex Ross.  It details the Marvel Universe from 1939 until the mid 70s as seen through the eyes of a news Photographer.  He sees the World War II era Captain America and friends.  He sees the formation of the Fantastic Four and the joining together of the Avengers, and Spider-Man swinging by overhead.  The stories are told from his 'everyman' point of view, NOT from the super-heroes point of view.  In this issue, the Silver Surfer comes to the Earth and meets the  Fantastic Four....with Galactus not far behind.

It was an amazing series!  Groundbreaking, even.  And it led the way to the incomparable series Astro City, also written by Kurt Busiek and with covers by Alex Ross (although Brent Anderson is the interior artist).  It follows the 'everyman', man in the street persepective, and does an incredible job of it.  It's one of my favorite all time comic book series...and the ONLY one I'm still getting.
