This just occurred to me a few moments ago:

On this date, 5 years ago, I signed the paperwork and became a home owner.

I can't believe it's been 5 years!  It doesn't seem possible for that much time have gone by.  But obviously it has.  Wow.

I"ve got books lining my shelves, day and night....

I had a Barnes&Noble email coupon for 20% off that expires today.  I found a book, but it wasn't eligible for the coupon (possibly because it was a pre-order), but I pre-ordering it at almost 50% off anyway.  So I looked around for another book, and found one I wanted.  And I ordered both.  So today's update is....

Constipation: 33.33%
Diarrhea: 66.67%

I don't like the runs, don't get me wrong.  But I'd rather be going too much and putting up with a sore bum than be all backed up and bloated and uncomfortable.  Thankfully, I don't have to deal with either of these very much at all.

Everyone, thanks for voting!  And keep an eye out here at the Palace for future ones!

But it's all right now, in fact it's a gas....

Back in the day (the Clinton Years) when I was bored and flipping through the tv channels to watch, if I ever came across this guys show, I'd immediately stop and watch it!

His name is Robert Tilton.  No, he's not doing 'Jazz Hands' in the photo, although since it's him, he very well MAY be, who knows?    I always found him immensely entertaining, he always made me laugh.  His facial expressions.   The pauses he made, when you knew he had no idea what to say next, and while trying to think of something, he's just throw out a 'HALLELUJAH!" for no discernible reason. How he'd suddenly just start "speaking in tongues" out of the blue.  How he put his hand up and invite the person who had written him to put their hand on their tv screen and 'feel the POWER of JAY-sus flow through your screen from my hand to yours!'  How he's sell scraps of torn cloth (never just giving them away, mind you) that he had blessed and that people were supposed to pray with to make all their dreams come true.

Very comical stuff.  I wonder sometimes if he's still doing his schtick; gouging naive or senile old ladies out of the Social Security so he could have $1000 suits and $500 haircuts (but I mean, just LOOK at his hair....worth every penny, I'd say).

Anyway, I discovered online THIS little gem today.  oh my GOD, did I laugh and laugh.  It's so much funnier with the fart noises!  Check it out.  And seriously, watch it all the way through, cause while you'll get the gist of it pretty early, some of these clips are just too hilarious NOT to be seen.

So, after watching the Doctor Who premiere Saturday and mulling it over, I can say this about it: It wasn't dark.  Thank Gallifrey.

No, what I'd call it was...buffoonish.

-I'll use the window.
-I'll run around on rooftops in a nightshirt.
-I'll jump of the roof and drop through a tree hitting several branches.
-I'll end the fall hanging upsdie down from a branch.
-Let throw a newspaper and hit Clara in the head.
-Let's make a cartoon noise when Lady Vastra puts him to sleep.
etc, etc. etc.

It got less buffoonish as the episode progressed (I'm ignoring Strax's inelegant descent....it's horrible how the Sontarans are made into just comedy relief anymore) but still, that's the main impression I had of the episode: Foolish clownishness. (and the dinosaur....it just seemed gratuitous and unnecessary to me)

I'm guardedly optimistic it will still be okay...but with Stephen Moffat still as showrunner....I don't hold high hopes of that.

Who are you, who, who, who, who.....

So tonight, soon, is the premiere of the new season of Doctor Who, with Peter Capaldi (I think I spelled that right) as the 12th Doctor.

I'm going into this with an open mind, but I am not expecting much and have very low expectations.  With Stephen Moffit (I think I spelled that right) continuing as the showrunner, I have little hope in something amazing.

See, the series with the 9th and 10th Doctors (with Russell Davies as the show runner) was some THE best scifi I ever saw on TV.  But when Davies left, and Moffit took over....well....meh.  I enjoyed Matt Smith as the Doctor, and I liked the Pond, although the whole Amy pregnant with River/River marrying the Doctor/Rory dying, but actually being a fake Roman Centurian/etc, etc, etc were all oh so confusing.  And in addition to Moffit's overblown and complicated plotlines, WAY too many stories were too introspective, too much of let's-get-inside-so-and-so's-head-and-see-what-makes-them-tick kinda stuff that I just found way too boring.  I honestly felt, in general, Matt Smith and the 11th Doctor were wasted doing storylines that were, well, frankly, beneath the actor and the character.

And now, even with the actor changing (and I'm not at ALL happy about the actor they selected, but I'm pretty sure I can come to terms with that), the showrunner is the same one who caused the last Doctor to be uninteresting to me.

And I've heard (although I have no idea how true it is) that THIS Doctor will be more...dark.  ooooooh, all the fan boys shiver with excitment.  Pfffft, fuck that.  WHY must everything be DARK, and GRITTY, and ANGST-FILLED?  I mean, this way of thinking has already RUINED the Superman movie experience.  I really, really REALLY hope it doesn't infect and ruin the Doctor Who experience.

It starts in just a little bit.  I guess I'll know soon enough, eh?
