Grease is the word....

No, sleeping was no better last night.  I woke up several times throughout the night, mostly from coughing. And swallowing.  My throat was so sore.  So finally, about 4AM, I got a drink of water, took two Advil and found some cough syrup in the bathroom medicine cabinet.  And I didn't even care the cough syrup expired in Oct. 2009, I took some anyway.  Yeah, I'm a rebel like that.

It soothed my throat and helped me swallow and I slept rather well from then on until the alarm went off.  But that doens't mean I'm not tired now.  *SIGH*  And I'm still sounding like a white James Earl Jones when I talk.  A white James Earl Jones with a sore throat.

Assuming I get through today, tonight is a local high school production of Grease.  I'll be seeing it with some friends including my buddy Michelle.  And afterwards, she and I will have our traditional post-theater food extravaganza at the local Waffle House.  Yeah, we is all kinda cultured.

Because, the night, belongs to lovers...

So after a stressful few days, last night, I was rather tired.  I went to bed about 9:30ish, and read the comic books I had bought yesterday.  I turned out the light 1030ish and quickly went to sleep.

Then, roughly 11:15, my phone rang.  I answered, but no one responded.  And then they hung up.  Obviously a wrong number.  But could I get back to sleep?  Oh NO!  I tossed and turned.  I laid on one side and then another.  I just could NOT get my mind to slow down, all sorts of useless, pointless shit was flying through my head and I while I was tired, I wasn't a bit sleepy.  Eventually, sometime after 12:45, I finally drifted off again.

And then the thunderstorm of nearly Biblical proportions hit.  The thunder woke me up, but the lightning made my eyes fly open.  It lit up the bedroom like I had turned on every light in the room.  And that's with the blinds shut as well.  It was crazy.  Although I did get back to sleep before too much longer.  But, even after the storm ended, I didn't sleep well.

Hopefully, tonight will be much better.

Bits-N-Pieces

So I think I'm catching a cold.  Since last night, my throat has been scratching and my neck's been sore.  Blech.  Also, I've been having a slightly phlegmmy cough. And I feel a little feverish. What fun.  Since I avoided repeated bad flu attacks this winter, I suppose I'm due for something.  Wonderful.
*******************************************************
Over the past few weeks, Mom's been removing the wallpaper from her dining room.  Over the weekend, she painted it all blue.  But she wanted to put this "swirl" thing design into it.  So last night, about 6:00, I got a call from her.

Mom: Did you have dinner yet?
Polt: No.
Mom: I started painting today at 7, I took a two hour break at 11, and I just finished up a half hour ago.  I am achy, I am tired, and I am NOT cooking.  Go get me something to eat.
Polt: (laughing) What am I going to eat?
Mom: I don't care if you get something or not, just go get ME something to eat.

So I walked to Waynesburger and got us each something to each which I took to her placed and we are.  I called her today and she said she's doing fine and is not at all sore.  She's 68 going on 6 sometimes.
*******************************************************
It's been insanely crazy hot.  And all of a sudden too.  One day going to work last week, it was about 35 degrees, damn near almost freezing.  And then yesterday, as I left for work, it was 72 degrees.  At 7:30 in the morning!  What the hell.  Guess we skipped Spring and just went right to Summer.  I hate Summer.  I hate heat and humidity.  I want it to now progress right on to Autumn.

Oh, and he sings!  And did I mention the cute accent thingee?

And of course, we've got the obligatory Bits-N-Pieces Eye Candy.

A question with an infinite answer...

So guess who was sent a 20% off everything coupon email from Borders?  And further guess who went there after work and was lucky enough to find the exact thing he was looking for?  Even though it was the only remaining one left on the shelf?  And who further bought himself Season (NOT series, I'm sorry, I don't care what anyone says, it's Season) 5 of Doctor Who?  On the same day that the first episode of Season 6 premiered?

Yeah, yeah, it was me.  Not a difficult question, but who the hell cares?  I now have all 5 of the new Doctor Who seasons!  Whoo-Hooo!!!

PS, I did not buy the blu-ray version, as I don't have a blue ray player.  I got the DVD.  But I don't feel like going back now and looking for a photo of the DVDs, so just deal with this, kay?  Thanks.

No more of this third degree.....

Let me take your back in time about 30 years ago.  A lady that worked with my mom was a single mom named Margie with two kids: Tommy, who might have been in kindergarten, Sarah who was a few years older.  So one evening, Margie had to go somewhere on short notice and called mom.  Mom couldn't sit with the kids, but said I could.  And so, a 14 year old Polt was dropped at Margie's house by his mother.

Margie introduced me to the kids, then she pretty much put them to bed, thanked me and left.  I sat there and read a book until she came back a few hours later.  I was afraid to turn on the TV cause the house was REALLY small and I didn't want to wake the kids.  When she got back, Margie gave me the money, called mom who came and picked me up, and all was right with the world.

I sat the kids after that, about three times I think, certainly no more than that, but it was well.  Tommy especially took a shine to me, like hero worship that kids to.  He was a good, funny,  no-problem kid.  In fact, they both were.

At any rate, advance to the present.  Our school board is in a deficit, and it's got a good number of wingnut "i'll close the schools before i raise taxes" kind of idiots on it.  And they're trying to find progams to cut, including languages.

Well the superintendant read a letter from Tommy Margieson (obviously NOT his real name) who's now working at the French Embassy in DC, saying the French program should not be cut.  And there was also a letter the from the French Ambassador himself saying the same thing.

Little Tommy!  Working in the French Embassy!  That means I'm only like one degree away from the French Ambassador, two degrees away from French President Sarcozy and, since they've met, three degrees away from President Obama!  Lil old me, sitting here in my duplex in South Central PA is that close to the President of the United States Of America.

Funny world, eh?

Stormclouds on the horizon....

I've never been much of a fan of Thor.

I enjoyed The Avengers comics (before Marvel became little more than a company that should be titled Wolverine Comics....and a few other insignificant guys in spandex), and have quite a run of them.  However, I never much enjoyed Thor being in the membership.  I mean, the guy's a s god, for...well, for God's sake.  How do you defeat a god?  Captain America, a bullet; Iron Man, an electromagnetic pulse; Yellowjacket and the Wasp, bug spray; Scarlet Witch, a gag.  But Thor?  A god?  Nope, never liked him in The Avengers.

Because of my dislike of the character, I wasn't sure I was going to see the movie this year.  Despite it having Natalie Portman, Craig's Wife in it.  Despite the fact it looks well done.  And really, can anything with Anthony Hopkins in it be ALL bad?  And they're gonna make an Avengers movie soon, which I will NOT miss, so I i should probably get around to seeing all the prequels, just so I know what's going on, but I wouldn't be enthusiastic about seeing Thor.

But then I saw something that convinced me that I HAD to see this movie.  That I could, in fact, NOT miss it!  And here it is:

A muscled hottie, shirtless, with a hairthing.  Check, I'm there.

The past is alive.....

Freddie and I broke up in late 2007 (And if you don't know who I'm talking about, check the labels section in the sidebar, he has his own label).  Since then, we've chatted once on Yahoo (which was a strange little chat) and a short text conversation one Friday night at like 1:00am (when he was drunk in a gay bar in Philly watching a drag queen from Toronto and wanting to know if I knew her).  Other than that, I've heard nothing from Freddie.

Until about three weeks ago.  He sent me a Friend request on Facebook.  Okay, I thought, it's been two and a half years, why not?  What can it possibly hurt?  So I friended him.

Then I saw his updates about going to the Baltimore/DC area and visiting various zoos around there (he was a zoo science major in college, so that's no surprise).  About two weeks ago, I got a text from him asking if I wanted to get together in DC somewhere for lunch on Monday and catch up.  And while the idea sounded fun, it also sounded a bit...strange.  I mean, why all the sudden interest in talking and catching up when there's been virtually no contact in years?  But regardless, I already had plans for Monday so I couldn't go and told him.

Last Saturday, A Local Celebrity, Mr. David ParisPeking and I went to Applebees to eat after work.  And while there, I got a phone call from Freddie.  He just wanted to talk and catch up.  But of course I was eating so I couldn't.  But later that night, I did call him back.

He was dog sitting for his cousin.  And we talked, probably 45 minutes.  I had thought it might be awkward, but it wasn't in any way awkward.  It was a relaxed, free-flowing, easy going conversation.  Just like it was when we were together and talking on the phone every night.  And then his cousin came back, so he had to go.  But he called me as he was driving home and we spoke for perhaps another 15 minutes.

It really surprised me how well the conversation went.  I mean, it's not like Freddie and I parted on bad terms, becuase we didn't.  Honestly, our relationship was dead well before we officially ended it.  But still, after all those years, I didn't really think he ever even gave me a thought.  And I certainly ddin't think he was interested in talking again.

But I'm pleased to say I was wrong.  And I'm glad he and I talked.  And we said we'd talk more later.  And hopefully, we will.

Bodies in the street auto mowdown...

Poor Sebastian.

Last Thursday, I got gas, and I apparently forgot to close the flap.  This I didn't know until Friday at work when a coworker told me another coworker had told him my gas cap was hanging outside the flap.  I went out to the car and sure enough, the flap was nearly closed, but the cap was dangling outside, held there by the cord that attaches it to the car.  I dont know how long it was that way.  Since you have to open the flap from inside the car, I have to assume I just never closed it.  And I hope the gas cap thing was done while I was at work.  There are several people there who fancy themselves practical jokers, so it's entirely possible. I was worried someone might have put something IN the tank, but nah, it's run perfectl fine.

Then, when I got home Saturday, I noticed I had lost the back rear hubcap.  This was the SAME tire that lost its hubcap in March of last year.  Apparently, I'm rougher on that tire than the other three, I dont know.

But Sebastian himself is chugging along just fine, getting me to work and back in torrential rains (like last Saturday), snow, and summer heat.  And he's costing me a LOT less in gas than Miss Cleo did.

I just gotta make sure I close everything up after filling him up with gas.
