 Today, 21 years ago, in 2005, I made the first post to the Palace.   It's right here,  

It's just crazy to think that if my blog were a person, The Palace would now be able to legally drink alcohol.

I was in the my ninth year in my current job.  

I was 8 years living in my apartment and 4 years from buying my house.

My father, my mother's mother, and one of my mother's brothers were all alive.  They've all since passed.

As, as mentioned above, Polt's Palace was created.

 So, in the last 6 months or so I've noticed an increase in viewers of the Palace (and thank your very much for stopping by.  Please come back again!).   And so I want to let everyone know that my laptop, over the last couple days, has been wonky: very slow loading pages, some not loading at all.  Have to refresh a lot.  I checked for solutions, tried everything suggested (that I understood) and nothing.  

So just in case the Palace goes dark, well, I guess the old laptop went tits up.  

I'll get it fixed up somehow, even if it means buying a new laptop (ugh).

Anyway, I'll see what I can do about it, but in the meantime, as long as the Palace stays up, ENJOY.

I was nine years into my current job.  I was two years past leaving Borders.  I was living in my apartment.  I was driving Miss Cleo, the 2001 White Pontiac Concorde.

My father, my maternal grandmother, my maternal uncle, Ag, and my Mark my Fairy Godfather were all still alive. Four my seven lil cousins were not yet born.  My most recent boyfriend was 14 years old. I was several years away from meeting any of the Puntabupeeps.

I was not on insulin yet, only pills.  I had not had to get shots in my eyes yet.  I weighed, I think, about 40 pounds more than I do now.

We had just gotten the internet at work, and it was there, somehow, I discovered Blogspot.  I spent down time just passing through random blogs, seeing what I'd see. (I did this at work as we had fast internet service there, at home I still had dial up). 

Eventually, I decided to try making my own.  I first tried Polt's Place.  But somehow that was already taken.   So, Ag was visiting in my apartment at the time, and I vividly remember looking over my shoulder and the sofa (the computer desk was behind my sofa which divided my living room) to where Ag sat at telling her it was taken.  She thought a moment and said, "Well try Poltscastle."   But as I thought a moment I realized Polt's Palace rolled off the tongue better.  

And thus was it named. 

And twenty long years later....he we are.

The Palace will reopen, but for now, we're closed to mourn the death of that great experiment, American Democracy.  It lasted almost 250 years, and it was a good run.  It's a shame we're chucking everything away for the man least deserving of it.

Once again, it's time for the annual housekeeping stats for 2024.  In 2024, in theaters, on DVD, Blu-Ray, TV, and various ROKU Channels, I watched movies, TV shows, mini-series, documentaries, etc,   The total count I saw was 178, 30 less than last year.  I don't know what to attribute the drop to, perhaps more time wasted on the iPhone?  Actually, now that I think about it, it's probably all the time I wasted re-watching things on Pluto (see yesterday's post) or re-watching Doctor Pol on Disney+.  Spent a lot of time doing that.  At any rate, I only saw 2 of them in an actual theater: Deadpool/Wolverine with the ParisPekings in Leitersburg and Escape From NY, I finally saw it in a theater, the Waynesboro Theater, 40 years after it came out.

I had a non-lethal medical issue in December that limited my interest in playing around in December, so that accounts for the low number there.  But I have no idea why most of the months are so high!  Last year, I never more than 11 encounters in any single month.  This year I've had the most encounters since COVID hit in 2020.  

Can't explain it, I just hope it continues into 2024.

Seventeen years ago  yesterday, June 23rd, 2005, was the Palace's first blogpost.

I've had the Palace longer than I've had my house.  Or my current dentist.  Or Rutters just half a block away from me.  The Palace stated before Hurricane Katrina, or before Obama was in office, or before two of three ParisPeking kids.  In the 'lifetime' of the Palace I've had three beds, three cars, three TV sets, three iPhones and used three different washer/dryer sets.  Back when I started this, Ag, my father and my mother's mother were all still alive.  Back when I started this, I was still going to DC Pride regularly, Toronto regularly and the local comic book store regularly.  The Palace began before insulin shots, shots in my eyeballs and discovering I have a slight heart issue.  Back when I started this, I had not yet met Kris or Derick or most of my current fuckbuddies.

Wow...a lot has changed in these 17 years.  But through all that, I've had the Palace. And even though it's changed over the years, it's always been there.

Don't know how long I'll keep this going, I don't have any plans to stop now, but who knows.  But I'm quite glad I did start this up, for a myriad of reasons.

In 2021, in theaters, in DVD and Blu-Ray, on TV and especially on various ROKU channels, I watched movies, tv shows, mini-series, documentaries and the like.  The total count I saw was 138.  Quite a jump over last year...but with COVID still raging, I didn't really feel like doing much outside the house.  And of those 138, I only saw 3 in an actual theater (Shang-Chi, Eternals and Spider-Man...all Marvel movies).  And of those 138, I only saw 5 with other people (3 with some member of the ParisPeking clan, 1 with my friend Corey and 1 other with Ghostie).

The month of July I was off work for the entire month due to my eye surgery, the doctor wanted me off the entire month.  And with COVID lessening in the warmer months, well...I had time and opportunity.  Unlike in the cold months, when COVID's surging, I really cut back.
