SO...
The Oscars. Yeah, I'm glad Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting Actor. Not only is the first Muslim to win an acting award, which will piss off all the tRumpikins around he country (as if him being black didn't piss them off enough), and not only is he a HELL of an actor (see House Of Cards and to a lesser extent, Luke Cage), but he's sexy as HELL! Damn, such eye candy! With an amazing smile. And as a final plus, he won for Moonlight, which is a gay movie.
And speaking of Moonlight, I'm glad it won Best Picture. I wanted it to, just because it's gay themed. Not only is that important to me personally, but it'll piss off those tRumpikins! Now I just have to watch it.....
********************
The Oscars again. The mixup at the end with Best Picture. I didn't want La La Land to win it because everyone I know personally who saw it were underimpressed with it. They said it was an okay movie, but certainly not Best Picture. So I'm glad that didn't happen, and that Moonlight did (see above for the reasons). But I felt sorry for Warren Beatty nonetheless. And very sorry for the cast and crew of La La Land onstage! How horrible. Although the guy at the microphone handled the situation very deftly and was extremely classy about the whole thing.
********************
The Oscars, yet again. I really wanted Meryl Streep to get Best Actress, so she could say some things about tRump again. I was surprised at the lack of political messages in the speeches. Although the Iranian director's letter was poignant. And Gael Garcia Bernal's speech was very well said (and needed to BE said! By someone who IS Mexican!) The writer's of Moonlight also had an great acceptance speech early in the evening. BUT, the best and I mean THE BEST speech of the evening was Viola Davis' acceptance speech! Incredible!
********************
NOT the Oscars.....Last week one night as I was preparing for bed, I got my toothbrush, but when I saw it, I decided it was time for a new one. So I threw it away, and then discovered....I had no other toothbrush in my house! How does that happen? I always have extra toothbrushes, so I don't run out, or in case I have an unplanned overnight visitor. But somehow it happened. So then, and the next morning, I just used mouthwash.
That afternoon, after physical therapy, I went to the grocery store to get toothbrushes, and a few other things. I left the store, after having spent $51 and as I got to my car, I realized...I had not gotten toothbrushes. *SIGH* So, after putting the groceries in the car, back into the store I went to get, FINALLY, the toothbrushes!
********************
Saturday at work, for lunch, I got two hard boiled eggs, and decided to make egg salad. I was peeling the second egg and I noticed these tiny red streaks across some parts of the egg I had already peeled. And then I figured it out: it was my blood! I had cut my thumb while peeling a freakin' hard boiled egg! Who DOES that????
********************
Physical therapy seems to be going well, thank you very much. They've give me weights on exercises I didn't have weight's on before. They've increased the weights on some of the ones I did have weights one. They got rid of some of the easier ones, and given me ones that are a bit more difficult, at least for now.
But I've been noticing small differences. I dont have the sharp pains (usually) when I put a coat on. I don't have the sharp pains (usually) when I try to yank the sheets back over me, or lay on the left side. I don't have the pains (usually) when reaching up for something high up. And previously, I ALWAYS had pains at these times...so it's definitely an improvement!

Today, mom and I went for Sunday lunch, as we often do. She also had to return something to Wal-Mart. So i went in too, not needing anything, and just wandered about a bit. What did I end up buying? Let me show you:
So now I've got plenty to keep me busy, should we get snowed in again this year. AND, I dont have to wait a whole week for Downton Abbey, I can watch all of it one right after the other. Just like I did for the first three seasons.

It's been, one week since you looked at me....
So my mini-vacation (to nowhere cause that's where I've gone) is almost over. I got back to work tomorrow, but I'll be spending the entire day in CPR training and not the office, so I guess while I'm technically back AT work I won't be working.
So what did I do over the last week? Let's see if I remember....
In roughly chronological order:
Colin stopped by for a short bit Thursday night; I got head while watching football; had a mini-argument with mom; didn't shower for over 24 hours; took several walks; slept in most mornings; had a treadmill delivered; rearranged the dining room to house the treadmill; went to eat with and hung out with Ghostie until late Saturday night; had three different booty calls set up, none of which, for various reasons, occured; ate some of Mama Polt's homemade cooking; watched football with ALCMDPP; watched Dallas lose embarrassingly; walked a half hour on the treadmill; didnt shower again for almost 24 hours; mailed a letter; mailed a package; went through a bit of unwanted melancholy; went to see Mamma Mia at my alma mater Shippensburg University with mom, my friend Michelle, and her mother; got my new driver's license photo taken; went shopping with mom; and over the seven days, watched nearly two full seasons of The West Wing, finishing the series just about a half hour ago. (I'm a smidge verklempt about that last episode of the last season...and just about having finished the entire series again)
SO, after all that, I get CPR tomorrow and then back to actual work on Friday. *SIGH*

How do you feel, it's a top ten list...
I finished up Spartacus over the weekend. My overall opinion of it was...meh. The more it went on, frankly, the worse it got: more over the top, more implausability...just got to big for it's britches. See, when it was a show about a gladiator, like in the first season (1) and the prequel (1.5), then it was based on character, and plot and characters plotting. But during the second season (2) and the third (3), then it was all about 'show': bigger sets, more blood, larger crowds of unnamed extras, and more grandiosity....all at the expense of character development.
But enough about that. What I'm going to do now is list my Top Ten Favorite Characters of Spartacus. And be forewarned, some on here for no other reason than they were just pretty eye candy.
10. Castus (Blessing Mokgohloa) Seasons 2, 3
Okay, granted, he wasn't much of a character, just one of the pirates who was left behind because he got so drunk he passed out. But he because a potential love interest for Nasir (a scene which if anyone knows was ever written out in flash fiction, please let me know cause I'd want to read it!), and a cause of jealousy for Agron. But he seemed like a decent guy. And he was an amazing piece of eye candy. And really, with a flirty smile like in the pic above, I dont know HOW Nasir could say no.
9. Tiberius (Christian Antidormi) Season 3
He was young, obnoxious, ambitious, immature, hot headed and frankly, not very likeable at all. So why is he on the list? come on...LOOK at him! He's adorable. It's a shame we only saw his ass twice.
She was one of the German slaves rescued from the ship. I like her mainly cause, from the start, she's such a she-cat! On the ship, while still chained and in a cage, she grabs the Roman slaver and stabs him repeatedly. That because her signature fighting style, knives. I loved how every time she was in a fight, she'd ned up jumping on a Roman from the back, or better yet, on his front, wrapping legs around his waist and stabbing him until he fell. And then remained on him, still stabbing him. Fierce.
The best conniving, master planner on TV since JR Ewing....but who's plans usually somehow turned around and bit him in the ass. But he still kept trying. The nerve of this guy to try everything he did never failed to amaze me. And it was always fun watching his plans crumble to ashes and then watching him freak out about it. And THEN, make plans to overcome it all. Plus, who else swore like him? Jupiter's cock, indeed!
She's basically a copy of Quintus, but with boobs. She makes all these elaborate plans that never turn out the way she wants them to. But that's not enough for her to make the list. What DID get her on the list was just how much she went totally batshit crazy in the 3rd Season. I mean, surviving the gladiator's attack on the ludus, wandering the villa out of her mind, become an 'oracle', but most of all, slicing Illithyia's son out of her womb, carrying him to the precipice and then simply falling backwards off of it, to her death. Bat. Shit. Crazy.
5. Pietros (Eka Darville) Season 1
He was first just eye candy to me (and, well...he still is), but as they developed his character as the lover of Barca, I came to care about him as a person. And I was angry when he was raped and abused, and frankly pissed off when he hung himself. I think I might have cheered when his rapist was thrown off the side of the cliff...the bastard.
4. Varro (Jai Courtney) Season 1
He was a decent character, a free man who sold himself into the ludus so he could send money to his family. he was a good man, one of the few honorable ones in the show...so of course, he had to die. His death angered me too. But while alive, he was one of the best characters on the show. Plus, he's a tasty piece of eye candy, for sure.
3. Mira (Katrina Law) Season 1, 1.5, 2
I like her because she started out as little more than a house slave, but she became an awesome archer and asset in battles. She didn't remain a helpless, useless slave. It saddened me to see her die, I liked seeing a strong sensible female character rise from nothing.
2. Doctore/Oenomeus (Peter Mensah) Seasons 1, 1.5, 2
Surely THE most honorable man in the entirety of the series. And a character with a GREAT backstory. He was fully fleshed out and very real. But I liked him so much because, as I said, he was honorable, and remained so until the end.
1. Nasir (Pana Hema Taylor) Seasons 2, 3
Almost from the time I first saw him as a shirtless slave, standing in a corner watching his Dominus have sex with a slave, I liked him. (I'm guessing it was a hair probably) I hoped he'd become a reoccuring character, I just didn't expect him to become a main character. And one involved in the only gay relationship between main characters on the show to boot (well in the later seasons anyway). And much like Mira, he started as a simple house slave and became a major player and warrior in the battles. And I like him for that just as I like Mira for it. And everytime he entered battle, and they'd show him, I was afraid he was gonna die. Especially in the last episode, when I expected ALL the rebels to be killed. Imagine how overjoyed I was when Nasir, and his man Agron, BOTH manage to survive.
I think that, in a way, made up for the lack of a decent goodbye when Agron when to assault Rome, and I then expected him to die. I mean, Spartacus fucks the Roman redheaded chick for the first time the night before and we get a scene full of slow motion sex between them, but Nasir and Agron, who have been a couple FOREVER, don't even get a kiss goodbye. Weak. Course, they DID get to go off into the sunset together, so that makes up for it. (And yeah, it's DEFINITELY the hair....)
And here, as way to make up for the oversight, is a nice little montage of them:
So, who would make your list of favorite characters? Which ones on my list shouldnt be there? let me know in the comments!

(as an added plus, here's a pic of the actor wearing just a hoodie!
What a shame the show didn't show Castus in just a loincloth!)

BITS-N_PIECES
So this week....yeah, this week kinda sucked. All week, I've had sinus issues. And not just the pressure and headache, oh no, but the draining of the gunk, which gave me a sore throat, and, since it's draining into
my stomach, an upset stomach as well. And it's NOT like that all the time, oh no. Some days it's just the headache, with no draining, other days it's all three at once. This week, out of 40 hours to be spent at work, I was off 18 of them. I thought it might be a sinus infection, but it doesn't FEEL like a sinus infection (and I've had plenty of them to know), and also, it's not the same thing constant. Like today, just a slight headache...but then my nose has been running most of the day. Hopefully this is the end of it, though.
*************************
Since I bought the house, the toilet as...leaked? No, that's not it, but the water is always dribbling from the tank into the bowl. And over time, it's gotten worse. And since I've been here 4 years now, there's permanent, brown water stains on the back of the bowl. So while I could just have the toilet fixed, I decided I want to go get a new one. One with an unstained bowl, and a better bowl, one I like better than I one I have now.
So mom and I went to Lowes, and I found a toilet I wanted. I took all the info down about it. Then, since mom already had the plumber coming over to her place for some stuff, she brought him down to check out my toilet. He measured and said he knew the toilet I was going to get and it was a good one and would fit. So once I got the toilet, I just needed to let him know, and he'd come by and put it in.
Last Monday, Mom and I went to Lowes and I pulled the toilet off the shelf and put it on the cart. Then I saw her put her purse on top of the box and start to root around in it. I asked her what she was doing. She said getting her credit card out. And when I asked why, she stopped, looked up at me and said, "Didn't I tell you I was buying this for you for Christmas?" I shook my head and she added, "Well I've told everyone else!" I asked who and she listed off her neighbors, some family members, the ladies she plays cards with, the lady she delivers Meals On Wheels with. I told her she didn't have to do that, that I intended on getting it. But she TOLD me she was getting it for me. And as we pushed the cart to the register, I laughing asked, "Well are you gonna pay to get it put in too?" And she said she was. I tried to tell her no, I was at least going to pay for that....but seriously, when she gets something in her head....well, that's all there is to it.
So right how, I have a toilet, in the box, sitting in my dining room, just waiting for the plumber to get here. All compliments of mom, for Christmas.
**************************
I watched the Spartacus prequel and am halfway through the second season. I'm still pretty meh about it all. Perhaps it's because I'm watching them all back to back, like watching four hours or more of it at a time. But really, there's entirely too much blood and boobs. Way too many are simply gratuitous. If I were watching them a week apart maybe I wouldn't think so, but that's not what's happening. Still, I *AM*going to watch all of what remains of the second season and all of the third also. Even though there's not anywhere NEAR enough male full frontals, there IS still a LOT of eye candy.
**************************
This week, while not feeling well sitting on the couch, I watched the entire first season of Downton Abbey. LOVED it. Wished I had the rest of the seasons here to watch right now. Had to order season two, that should be here soon. I love nearly everything about it. I love, just as is usual, simply everything that comes out of Maggie Smith's mouth.
"No Englishmen would dream of dying in someone else's house."
"Things are different in America."
"I know. They live in wigwams."
"What is a weekend?"
"I take that as a compliment."
"I must have said it wrong."
Oh my God, LOVE her!
************************
DC Angel (remember him?) and I have been texting, attempting to get together again for another hookup, but with this week's sinus troubles...well it hasn't happened. Hopefully soon. Despite our problems a few years ago, he's really just pretty amazing in bed.
************************
The weather has been crazy. Tuesday through Thursday, it was like late July: temps in the 90s and humid like a sauna. Come Friday, its cooler, less humid, breezy, just awesome. Temps were only a high of 75. In the span of two days, it went from having to have the a/c on all the time here at home to needing to wear some Totes Toasties on my feet to keep them warm. But I LOVE this weather the most of any. Autumn, my favorite time of year.
***********************
Grandma was in the hospital again last week, probably because of the weather. She was having trouble breathing, her asthma was acting up again. Badly. But after two days in there, and few changes in meds, she's back home and doing...well, as well as an 89 year old lady with congestive heart failure who's had open heart surgery and a cancerous tumor removed from her colon can be.

Oh shed no tears TV...
There have been some very popular TV shows over the years that I just haven't gotten into. I dont watch a lot of network now, mainly cable channels (Discovery, Nat Geo, History, History International, Military, BBCAmerica), but I used to watch as much network TV as anyone. Until network TV become nothing but repetative, dumbed down, mind-numbing tripe. Now the shows on this list dont necessarily meet that description above....although some do.
So, having not seen these, I'll just stick with my documentaries, and my Doctor Who, and my nature shows, and my Hoarders, and leave the network TV shows to those who wish to watch them. I shall pass, thank you very much.

This one always had an interesting idea behind it I thought, but I never really got around to watching it. And then, as it progressed to became the wet dream of every terrorist-torturing, ass-kicking, big-explosion, lotsa-gunfire, throw-in-your-own-Hollywood-action-film-cliche-here, Bush-loving, redneck 'Murican out there, I was glad that I never got into it. I would have felt ashamed to watch such propagande passing as entertainment. Course, they did have a black president on here before we did in real life.
Buffy, The Vampire Slayer
Unlike most of the other shows on here, I think at some point in time I WILL actually watch this series. I've just heard too much good stuff about it from too many people who share my tastes. But when it aired, I just never got around to watching it. Not a single epsiode as a matter of fact. Yeah, I really oughtta to something about that.
Friends
Oh God, how I hated this show. I was a twenty (and thirty) something myself when this was on, and what I did NOT need in my life was watching 6 people that were more attractive than I, who lived in the exciting city of New York and not the boring town of Waynesboro have more exciting and interesting and fun adventures than I did. And then be all whiny and agnsty about their lives. I never saw a single epsiode when it originally aired, and only saw a repeat in, I think, 2007, when I was in Toronto and it was raining so i couldn't go out, and my traveling companion watched two episodes of it. I have no idea which ones they were. I've successfully blotted this fluff out of my mind.
Lost
This one, before it started I wanted to watch it cause it looked so interesting, but I kept forgetting. And then, when I heard the complaints of how strange and weird it got as it went on, well, I'm not now very sorry that I didn't get into. And its another one that I've never seen a single episode of.
Seinfeld
Unlike perhaps every other person in American, I never thought this show looked funny or entertaining. When it was airing, I only caught one episode: the one where they got lost in the parking garage. And while that one did make me chuckle, it did not get me interested in the show in general. In reruns, the only other one I've seen is the Master Of Your Own Domain epsiode, and yeah, that one also make me chuckle. But, not enough to go back and watch any other episodes. So, having not seen these, I'll just stick with my documentaries, and my Doctor Who, and my nature shows, and my Hoarders, and leave the network TV shows to those who wish to watch them. I shall pass, thank you very much.

Each voyage a risk to get wrecked...
Some people seem to be a little unsure of the superiority of Battlestar Galactica over Star Trek: Voyager. So in order to help makes things clearer, I give you the following:
The Top Ten Reasons Why Battlestar Galactica Is Better Then Star Trek: Voyager
10. The Galactica's Seond In Command is a hard as nails alcoholic who has some of the best lines of the series. Voyager's Second In Command has a stupid facial tattoo and talks to imaginary animals.
9. Little Hera is nowhere NEAR as irritating as Naomi Wildmon.
8. Galactica looks like a large reptilian creature muscling its way through space. Voyager looks like an inverted garden trowel.
7. Battlestar Galactica's odyssey starts through the actions of a narcisstic, arrogant scientist. Voyager's odyssey starts due to the decisions of her own captain.
6. On Galactica, we get to see Helo, Lee, and most hot characters shirtless, but Harry Kim and Tuvoc never deshirted.
5. Galactica has guest stars the calibar of Dean Stockwell and Lucy Lawless. Voyager got Andy Dick and The Rock.
4. Battlestar Galactica never had an episode like Favorite Son, Threshold, or Tsunkatse. Thank God.
3. Janeway allowed Seska and the Kazon (of all people) to take over Voyager and strand the crew on some planet. Adama...well, I'm not gonna reveal a spoiler, but just watch the series you'll see what happens.
2. Following a battle, Adama never had to stop and readjust his hair.
1. Battlestar Galactica has no Neelix. Nuff said.

Nuff said.

Seeing as I've finished the Second Season of Battlestar Galactica, I think I'm going to list my Top5 Least Favorite Things about it. So there are definitely SPOILERS ahead!!!
5. Starbuck. Don't like her much. She can apparently DO anything, from interrogations, to teaching new pilots, to infiltrating a hostage situation, to provide security at a high level meeting...despite being in a cast and with a cane. She's too much like Wesley Crusher: able to do ANYTHING, and do it better than anyone else. I mean, really, why do we even need the rest of the crew, just let Starbuck get us home. To be fair, she's not ALWAYS irritating, but she is enough for me to mention it here.
4. The unshown models of Cylons. I totally understand why they have to do it this way, but come ON...you've got main characters on Caprica, with tons of Cylons walking in the background and standing behind them, and such, and ALL we see are models that have already been revealed as Cylons! I know they don't want to give anything away about the remaining models, but that just totally stretched credibility too far for me. Oh the other hand, I don't want the surprise ruined. I know 7 of the models, I don't want the remaining 5 to be revealed just as background. But still, it's just kind of a glaring omission, ya know? And really, the NEED to show much MUCH more of the black, bald sexyhott cylon model, Simon. Yumm.
3. Baltar & Six (the one in his head). Their conversations about God and...well, frankly everything else, have grown quite tedious, boring and repetitive. I'm SO over both of them. And him in particular.
2. "Black Market". Nuff said, eh?
1. The killing of Billy. What a poinless, unnecessary waste. Just so Lee could end up marrying Dualla. Hated the whole thing. Much like I hated Ianto's killing in Torchwood.
Now I know, since I'm only halfway through, some of these things could be resolved more to my satisfaction by the time it ends. But as it stands now, these are what I don't think about the show. In general, everything else about the show....LOVE IT! So if all I've got, after two episodes, it 5 complaints, I guess they're doing pretty damn well, eh?
And do NOT leave any spoilers in the comment section either!!!!

In the name of entertainment Superstar psycho...
Some recent media matters.
1) the Glee finale. Meh. Kind of a let down, in my opinion. Not bad, just...meh. Kinda like most of Glee this season. The most memorable part of the entire hour was the commerical about not using the word retard. It was quite jarring to hear the words nigger, spic, chink, fag and kike said out loud on tv.
2) Battlestar Galactica: Season 1. Very well done. It truly is great scifi, great drama, great political theater, great military adventure, great plot, great (and unlike Glee) generally consistant characterization, and great special effects. It's not perfect. I've found the whole Six-inside-Baltar's head a tedious storyline. I was bored to tears by the Helo-Sharon on Caprica storyline...until the very end. And I don't like that Starbuck is apparently capable of doing absolutely anything and everything needed anywhere in the fleet. That aspect of her reminds of a Wesley Crusher type thing. But she's a much MUCH better character than Wesley. But none of these are really negatives, more like...mild irritants. And the season finale totally makes up for anything else in the series. When Sharon so unexpectedly shot Adama, I gasped as I haven't done for twenty years, the last time being the "Mr. Worf...fire." ending of The Next Generation. Can't wait for my season 2 to arrive so I can start watching it.
3) X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Got this on Netflix, and it was even more horrible than I thought it was going to be. Truly horrendous. Every single Hollywood cliche: big explosions, gunfights, bad-boy anti-hero, and even when all the kids are escaping from Three Mile Island (really? REALLY? TMI! Come ON!), The ONLY one without a shirt was the hot blonde chick who had to run around in a tight wifebeater...sad. Sad and typical. The only thing missing was "the hooker with a heart of gold" cliche. That, and a plot that made any kind of sense whatsoever. Clearly, the film was made with one thing in mind: let's do whatever we have to to make the absolute MOST money we can. Screw characterization, screw plot, screw intelligent dialogue. Why bother making anyone actually have to think a little, let's just dumb it down to the lowest common denominator and pocket the rubes' money. And that's exactly what they did. It's a shame any money, time or effort was wasted on this 1 hour and 42 minute bit of tripe.

I pass before you Don't discount my gratitude...
After work, I went to Borders with my 50% off any one item coupon. I found three books, one of which was an already discounted book and the most expensive of which was 16.99, so that's what I got 50% off of. BUT, I also found, on their 40% off DVD table, the first season of Battlestar: Galactica. And it was callin' my name! PLUS, since I'm a Borders Club member, or whatever, I go an additional 10% off everything on that table!
So in the end, the DVD set and three books, PLUS tax, cost me less than the original list price for the DVD set! SCORE!
Also, for the first time YEARS, I noticed two really hot guys working there. There used to be, if not hot guys, at least cute guys, working there all the time. But for quite sometime, it's been women or unattractive guys. Which didn't hinder my shopping experience, but which did negate some of the pleasant eye-candy ambiance.
Nonetheless, now I've got DVD's to watch! But I fear, this will result in my having to run right out and buy the OTHER seasons!

A question with an infinite answer...
So guess who was sent a 20% off everything coupon email from Borders? And further guess who went there after work and was lucky enough to find the exact thing he was looking for? Even though it was the only remaining one left on the shelf? And who further bought himself Season (NOT series, I'm sorry, I don't care what anyone says, it's Season) 5 of Doctor Who? On the same day that the first episode of Season 6 premiered?
Yeah, yeah, it was me. Not a difficult question, but who the hell cares? I now have all 5 of the new Doctor Who seasons! Whoo-Hooo!!!
PS, I did not buy the blu-ray version, as I don't have a blue ray player. I got the DVD. But I don't feel like going back now and looking for a photo of the DVDs, so just deal with this, kay? Thanks.

Wanna fall in love with a soap opera queen...
Read today online that they're cancelling All My Children, and...some other soap opera, dont recall the name. It brought back some memories.
I never got into daytime soap operas. Except for one. In the late 80s, I got hooked on "Santa Barbara". I would plan my afternoons around the hour that it played. I would schedule my college classes so I could be home to watch it. I was totally addicted.
The evil of Mason Capwell. The hotness of Cruz Castillo. The sweetness of Kelly Capwell. The dictatorialness (totally a word) of CC Capwell. The scene-chewing of Minx Lockridge. The wackiness of Gina Lockridge. The earthquake. The serial killer. The big neon "C" on the roof of the Capwell hotel that killed ex-nun Mary. Ah, yes, good times.
And all my friends in my neighborhood were into it as well. Even the straight boys. We'd watch it, alone one day, at Susan's house the next, at my house the next, at Jeff's the next. And then when it ended we'd spend another hour dishing about it! Oh the fun.
I dont honestly remember how I got out of it. It was not long afterwards, though, that it got canceled. But by then, I didn't miss it. And my only turn at daytime soap operas was done.

Was spending money like the way it likes to rain...
I've bought a few things recently that I'm quite excited about! (yeah I know, not the most exciting first sentence you've read here, but at least it's not another half-nekkid guy photos post or one about my encounters with young gay strippers!)
Firstly, yesterday when I went to my local comic book store, I checked out his newest batch of action figures, as you do. And I saw there was a new series coming out "Arkham Asylum", having to do obviously, with Batman stuff. Now I'm not such a fan of Batman action figures, but I'm ALL about The Jokeraction figures! And they had one, as well as a Harley Quinn one as well. And I simply could NOT turn them down.
I askesd Luke the price, he said they were $17.50 each. Normally, action figures are $15 each, but prices rise, so whatever. But when he told me, I made a big deal about how that's outrageous, and the economy sucks, and doens't he know times are tough, but all in a mocking tone. And he says, "Well you know I'll give you a deal on them." I've been getting my books and stuff from Luke every week for damn near 20 years, if not longer, and he usually does give me a good deal on things. WHen he rung me up, he only charges me $15 bucks for each one, no tax. Score! And here's a photo of them both!

After this, I stopped by the grocery store for a few things, and picked these up:
Yeah, yeah, I know, my blood sugar rises to coma-inducing levels just looking at them. But seriously, are they NOT the best thing in the world next to sex????
And I ordered these last week, but they just arrived today:
YAY! Now I've got something to watch after work for the rest of the week! Huzzah for having DVD sets to watch!

Take a chance, take a chance, take a chance on me...
Today on the way to work, I had an epiphany.
I was listening to the most recent CD I recieved in the Monthly CD Bloggy Exchange Thingee (or whatever we call it). This one was from john, The BunnyMan. I like this CD a lot, cause john, The BunnyMan and I have similar tastes in music. And this CD did not disappoint.
There's a song on there "Take a Chance On Me" originally by ABBA, this time covered by Erasure. While on the way to work, I was singing along, and I came to the following lyrics, and sung along like I always did, "When you're all alone with the pretty birds blah blah." That's always how I had sung it.
But then, the next time those lyrics came around, I was sitting at a stop light, not singing and for the first time in my LIFE, I heard the actual lyrics: "When you're all alone, and the pretty birds have flown."
And the clouds parted and sunbeams shown down on me as a celestial choir sangs hymns and cherubs floated overhead strumming harps. Or so my epiphany felt like it went.
I immediately put the CD on rewind and listened to it again, and yep that's what they said. How could I NOT have known what they were saying all these years?
As I laughed to myself, I though back on the other lyrics I had messed up before. The main one being Jimi Hendrix singing, " 'Scuse me, while I kiss this guy" instead of the correct lyric of " "Scuse me, while I kiss the sky."
Ah, well, live and learn.

Oscar....the grouch...
The Academy Award nominations are being announced today, and frankly, I don't care in even a little bit.
In the past, I have attended, and held, some Oscar parties. But that was mainly for the food, drink, and friendship. Not for the awards themselves. The Oscars, like the Emmys, Grammys, and I suppose Tonys (although I've never watched a Tonys award show), never go to the nominees I feel they should. In fact, I rarely agree with most of the nominees. So in recent years, I've not watched. What's the point?
Awards shows seem to me to be an orgy of self-promotion and self-aggrandizement filled with gratuitious fluff. The are too long, boring and in the end, mean absolutely nothing. With the exception of one case (Slumdog Millionaire) I have never seen a movie just because it won or was nominated for an Oscar. And honestly, I had thought about seeing Slumdog Millionaire anyway before it was nominated from what I had heard about it, but decided to wait for it to come out on Netflix. So that one case, in all the 30 some years that I've been aware of the Oscars, is the only one where the Oscars changed my mind.
But the movies (and songs, and tv shows and, I suppose plays) that I enjoy either are not nominated or never win. So why should I care who does win? As I stated above, its not gonna change my mind on seeing a movie or not.
If I want to watch a bunch of overpaid egomaniacs in obscenely priced clothing blather on and on saying things I couldn't care less about, I'll just turn on C-SPAN.

Lives forever, these tales are classical...
In an effert to combat my road rage on the way to, and especially the home from, work, I've found a radio station that plays classical music. It's NPR, I believe. At any rate, it keeps me calm and soothed, more or less, throughout thr drive. Despite the idiots I encounter on the roads.
At any rate, I've discovered a few things. I've discovered I like orchestra music, even if I can't always tell which insturments are playing, nor knowing the composers names. Nor actually having even heard of most of the composers when they're names are mentioned.
What I do NOT like is the harpischord. It's screechy. And shrill. Sounds whiny. And every time I hear it, I think of the Addams Family. Nope, don't like it at all. Plus, I've determined I don't like prominent flutes. Flutes as part of the rest of the music is fine, but when there's flute solos or flutes prominently featured, they're just too shrill for my ears. And they sound snotty to boot. Just don't like 'em.
Don't much care for opera either, but that's another post, I suppose.

Half off the price they're asking...
Yesterday, A Local Celebrity, Mr. David ParisPeking and I were to see the Green Hornet. We ate lunch and afterwards, he didn't feel well so we didn't go. Didn't want to spend money on a movie, even a matinee, and then have to leave in the middle. So we'll have to see that again some other time. But before we left, we visited the FYE store in the mall. It had signs up all over that they were closing the store, and things were 30%-50%-80% off.
I scored several things for half off!
Smallville, Season 9. I've been stuck in season 5 now for some time cause frankly, it's so bad. But since I already have seasons 1-8, getting 9 fulfilled the demands of the collector inside me. And plus it was half off!
Batman Beyond: Season 2. I like this series, I don't have season 1, but then this series was never chronological anyway. And at half off, it's a steal.
Super Friends Hour: Season One, Volume 2. Ah, childhood. How I remember getting up Saturday mornings and planting my ass in front of the TV to watch this little bit of (to my ten year old brain) awesomeness. And at half off, how could I say no?
And since everything I got was 50% off (did I mention that before?), I found Avatar, The Last Airbender The Complete Book 1 Collection, and had to get it. I've never seen ANY episode of this series, but I've heard people raving about it (*cough*Craiggers*cough*) and decided I'd pick up the first one to see if I liked it or not. So once I'm done with DS9, I plan on starting this series. And we'll see if it stands up to the praises I've heard.
