Halloween was a blast, how long will this last....

So today, beside being Halloween, some pretty big things happened today.

I've had this big tree at the back of my property along the alley since I bought the house.  Almost three years to the month  during an overnight windstorm, a huge branch was blown off the tree and blocked the alley (luckily not hitting anything on the way down).  I didn't want that to happen again, and possibly take out a neighbor's car or fence or what have you.  So I decided to have the tree cut down.

This morning, the guys showed up at 730 and a little after 1pm, they were done.  Tree was gone.  And as a side benefit, the hedge back there and another bush were trimmed down to almost nothing.  But anyway here's a before and after pic:

Yeah, they're not the best pics, but you can at least see the sky in the second one, whereas the tree obscures it in the first one.  And man, when the sun gets above the house in back, without the tree there, the sun just floods right into my kitchen window, nearly blinding me!  But at least I dont have to worry about any of the tree coming down in the wind or during a snow storm.

Also, today, I signed all the paperwork to refinance my mortgage.  Didn't want to report anything until it was all said and done cause I didn't want to jinx myself.  But now it's all over.

Back in August, I decided to check into refinancing.  I contacted a guy at Wells Fargo then and we had a few very short meetings to get paperwork and such, and then today, finally, I signed all the paperwork and it's all over.

In the old mortgage, I had 23 years left and was paying a 5% interest rate.  Now, I have a 20 year mortgage total, at 3.75% interest, and my payment is gonna be $50 less a month than I pay now.  That's the trifecta: shorter time, lower interest rate, smaller payment.  And I managed to get them all!  Yay, me!  And as a side benefit, my first payment isn't until Jan. 1, 2017...so that means the next two month, I don't have a mortgage payment.  That'll come in a bit handy when it comes to Christmas gift purchases.

I plan on still making the same monthly payment as I always have, and hopefully a bit extra each month. If I can do that, I'll pay off the mortgage even quicker.  So anyway, that's the other really big news today.

On a smaller note, since it's Halloween, and since I've never seen it, I thought I'd watch "Hocus Pocus".  But when I tried to Roku it, turns out the only options were to pay for it.  Nope.  So then, since it's Halloween and since I've never seen it, I thought I'd watch "The Nightmare Before Christmas".  Upon checking with Roku, once again the only options were to buy it.  Nope.  So I ended up watching "Minions".   Not a Halloween movie, but it was free, so there is that.

Last night, I had to stay up until after midnight to watch the Cowboys/Eagles game (went into overtime, but Dallas won!) so it was worth staying up.  But I had to get up today early cause the tree cutters were coming.  And somehow I did.  But I have been SO tired.  The last week or so, I've been trying to go to sleep early.  I manage to get to bed before 9, but don't get to sleep before 11 or after....damn phone apps.  hopefully I won't do that tonight.

I've got books filling my shelves, day and night...

So today, mom and I just happened to be in Hagerstown, and we went to Sam's so I could get more candy for work (I keep the Employee Candy Mug in my office at work.).  And there of course, I had to check out the books, and I bought three of them:

"Hagerstown: Then & Now" by Mary H. Rubin
"In Such Good Company" by Carol Burnett

I find it very hard to believe I haven't bought a book in the last two months (well I have...I purchased four of them.....all four which I already owned and didn't remember that I owned them, so.....yeah...getting old not only sucks, but can be a waste of money too.  And I'm not counting mistakes in my final tally), but this is the current list:

Eh I'm still gonna a few things here until I get the new computer up and running.  All the pics I have are on the new, now unworking computer.  But if I find something I like while using this one, I'll just grab those photos and post em here.  So today, I have a.....

Still on the old computer....

But this morning, I was checking out my social media, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and I'm seeing all these people I follow in all their Halloween costumes out last night celebrating at parties and such on the last Saturday night before Halloween,  and I'm just sitting here thinking,

"Yeah, my costume musta been a comatose man, cause I was in bed by 10pm and asleep by 11pm."

Hey, when you're a year and a month away from 50, that IS a hearty Halloween celebration.

Hey kids, had issues with the new computer last night, but today when I got home, it booted up just like it's supposed to.  And it's not running slow.  So that's good stuff.  The hardware issues are I think corrected.

I attempted to get some of the software back on it, and damned if I didn't have ALL kinds of issues even getting Google Chrome to be like it had been. I'm sure it's a brainfart on my part, but after screwing with it for over a half hour, I was just like, "fuck it".  I shut it down, and I'll try again tomorrow night.

All my photos and documents and stuff are still on there, that's no problem.  I just gotta get Chrome and my anti-virals, and some other things back on there to make it run like I want it to.  Hopefully, that'll all go easier tomorrow.

So i hope we're nearing the end of all this, and I'll be back to posting like normal soon.

Hang in there.

Hey kids.

This is still on the old computer.  This morning, when I got up, the new computer was up and apparently working and waiting for me to input my password.  But I was running late, so I didn't have the time.

Had an okay-ish day at work, but was tired all day. And after work, I had a meeting with my financial advisor, and once I got home, I had some food and now....I don't feel like dealing with it.

I'll try to deal with it tomorrow when I get home from work, when I have all evening to do so.  Tonight, I'm gonna just watch a bit of tv then go to bed early and cuddle in bed and read.

Sounds delightful, eh?

Well, I'm still on the old computer.  It's slow and quirky...reminds me of why I ordered the new one.

Anyway, my friend was over tonight and looked at it.  When he put it back together and turned it on....it came on!  Which is more than happened for me last night.  He says I fixed it myself last night....but of course, with his help over the phone.

But it was still running very slowly, so he suggested basically restoring it to the original settings, but while retaining my pictures and documents and such.  He's never led me wrong so far, so I said sure.  So that's what we're doing now: resetting it.

Now sure how this is gonna work out in the end, but eh, it's what we're doing.  I guess I'll have an idea tomorrow morning when I get up and check it.

*SIGH*

Gotta love computers....when they work.....

I'll keep you guys updated, as I can.

Okay, kids, I'm on the old computer now, because my new one, the one I just got earlier this year, will not start.  A Friend and I worked on it via messenger (with me, ME!, taking the back off, taking the memory out, taking the battery out, etc!  Who knew I could even DO that, much less without someone being here to help me?)   He's gonna stop by and check it out tomorrow evening.

But until I get this fixed, however that may be done and however long that may take, I wont be posting to the Palace here.  Hopefully, this will just be a matter of days, but it may be longer.  So check back over the next couple days, hopefully the Palace will be up, open and running soon!

Yep, well it happened today. I saw my first Christmas ad on Television.

ON OCTOBER TWENTY-FUCKING-THIRD!!!!!!

WHAT THE FUCK??????

Crimeny, it's not even Halloween and we're being subjected to Christmas advertising!  Again!

I absolutely DESPISE American big business/corporate practices.

Whoever decided to air this shit this soon needs to be strapped to a chair and have Christmas Shoes, Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer, and any and all Kenny Loggins Christmas music piped into earphones tied to their heads non-stop, 24/7 from now until Christmas Day!

Course, on the plus side, it's not as bad as last year, when the first K-Mart Christmas ad I saw was back on September 23rd.

Nonetheless, now there's a boycott list over in the sidebar.  And it will grow and remain there until the day after Thanksgiving, when Christmas ads should start.  And in addition to the list, I'll be boycotting those businesses until then as well.
