Check this out, real quick, don't know if everybody know (Part 228)...

Check This Out!

Today, after work, I stopped by the ParisPeking household to see the newest addition to their family.  She's a cute little, 8 week old, brown girl.  She whines a bit, and loves to lick your hand and nibble your fingers with her sharp little teeth.  And she follows her big sister, Missy all around!

That;s me (obviously) holding Daisy, a chocolate lab/German Shepard mix they just got this week.  Missy, the Jack Russel Terrier, is quite a few years older, and doesn't appreciate a little pup following her around and, literally, nipping at her heels.

But Daisy was just THE cutest thing!  And the best part?  She didn't piddle on my while I was holding her.

Chapter 4, Page 28...

Tuesday, when I woke up, I just did NOT feel like going in to work.  So I called in and took my Good Friday holiday that I worked and still had to take.

It was a wasted day.  I again didn't shower (didn't, in fact, from Sunday morning until Wednesday morning) and didn't shave (didn't,  in fact, from Friday morning until Wednesday morning).  I DID however, watch The Watchmen on the new Blu-Ray I just recently got.  (my Blu-Ray movies consist of "Guardians Of The Galaxy", "The Avengers", "X-Men, Days Of Future Past", and "The Watchmen."  Sensing a trend?)  I also watched a Doctor Who series, with the Fifth Doctor, and it wasn't terribly good.

I had filled my gas tank up the day before, and when I got in the car in the early afternoon, the gas fumes were almost overpowering!  I got a headache just driving a short distance.  This has happened before on occasion.  Always right after I fill up, and usually after I do so at Rutters and then park the car (a drive of only half a block).  When I fill it up in Hagerstown and drive home (a distance of ten miles or so) I dont have that smell.

But this day, it was so bad.  And I was concerned. I mean, I dont allow smoking in my car anyway, but I don't think it's a good idea to have gas fumes hanging out inside it.  So i called the mechanic.  He said he could take a look at it Wednesday.

I drove my car to his garage, mom came and picked me up. I dropped her off at her place and brought her car back to my house (to take to work on Wednesday).

I dont honestly recall doing anything else of note on Tuesday.

Chapter 4, Page 29...

For some reason, I got up over a half hour early on Wednesday, and so I got to work very early too.  But that's cool, I've been showing up late recently (since the time change).  I think my body may have adapted to the time difference now.

Work was no big deal. I had things I needed to accomplish, and I got them all done.

After work, I stopped by the garage on the way home.  The mechanic said there weren't any leaks.  There's a vent some where involved in all this, run by a computer.  He took the vent out, took it apart, put it back together and then hooked it up and tried it manually.  It worked like it was supposed to.  So his only thought was that maybe the vent had been sticking and allowing fumes into the car instead of venting them outside.  He said this should have fixed it.  And $67 later, I took my car home, hoping the gas fume problem was done.

I got the bbq wings from Rutter for supper and DAMN those sons-a-bitches are THE best wings I've ever had.  And I watched another Doctor Who series, this again with the Fifth Doctor.  And again, it was mediocre.

I was tired and so I went up to bed about 830.  But I read and putzed around on my phone and didn't actually turn out my light until after 11:00...which kinda defeated the purpose of going to bed early....

Anyway, not much to report for today.  Didn't even bother to shower.  I did do three loads of laundry.  I had breakfast from Rutters.  I had supper from Hardees.  I paid the bills for May and updated my checkbook.  I mailed the bills and a few cards.  I was online a lot.  I read some.  I went up to bed before 9:00, but read until after 10:30.  And then to sleep.

Proclamation of defense, the outrage....

I've seen, through social media, how so many people are angry, enraged and disgusted at what going on in Baltimore.  And as well they should.  We all should be outraged at a group of people breaking windows and taking things that aren't theirs.

I just have to wonder, where is there outrage about another group of people breaking a human being's spine and taking his life as a result?  Especially when that group is supposed to protect and serve us.

I dont say this as a reason or excuse for the rioting.  I say it because it astounds me that there could be more outrage over broken windows, burned buildings and looting stores than over a broken spine, denial of medical care and death of a man in police custody.

One does not justify the other.  Unfortunately, I think one will only exacerbate the other.

I build this garden for us....

So as I mentioned below (two posts down...under the baby and bunny pics.  Go take a look, I'll wait. Come back when you're ready), I did some work on the front garden in the last week.  And I have pics.

Before I started work on it, it's all thistle-filled.

The weeds from the first day's work.

The first day's work...only about a quarter deweeded.  I started at the border with the neighbor's garden on the left.

Most of the weeds after I finished (there's a few off panel)

The deweeded garden (and the weeds themselves)

And the row of purple tulips.  They sit right on my side of the border with the neighbor's garden.  Only two of them have blossoms though.

Chapter 4, Page 26...

What a day Sunday was.

I got up about 9ish, threw on some clothes and went to Rutters.  I wanted to get a breakfast sandwich and what have you, but their computers were all wonky and we couldn't order food.  So I just got coffee and grabbed a Tastykake Cherry Pie (which actually turned out to be an Apple pie, since I didn't pay much attention to which type of pie I was grabbing), came home and ate and drank the coffee while reading the paper.

After wasting some time online, I showered, dressed and drove to mom's.  We were going to eat lunch somewhere, as we do, but couldn't figure out where.  This is a normal problem for us, strangely.  Anyway, we ended up going to the Chambersburg Mall to eat at Bonanza.  And then we drove back to town, stopping at Wal-Mart to get some things.  And then Sheetz for a coke, with a shot of lemonade.  Which was AMAZING!

When I was younger, a store downtown had a food bar at it, and you could get a Coke there with a spritz of lemon juice.  And it was always amazing.  But that store's been closed for ten years or more.  And I've not had a Coke with lemon since then.  She's been doing this for quite some time, but this is the first time I heard of it.  And it tastes just as great as those sodas all those years ago.

Anyway, after dropping her off, I came home.  Last week one night after work, you may recall, I de-weeded about a quarter of the front garden.  Since then I've been worrying about when I'm going to get the rest of it done.  Well when I got home, I decided to just DO IT right then!

I changed into old clothes, grabbed the trowel, gloves, broom, weed killer, and garbage bag and headed out.  With my earbuds in, and being able to crawl around in the dirt in old clothes, I got the whole thing deweeded without too much trouble at all.  And not a very long time either.  Such a relief that's done.

Later in the day, mom showed up at my door.  She was out taking a short walk.  Previously in the day, when we were at her house, I noticed she had some purple tulips growing in her front yard.  I told her I didn't even know there WERE purple tulips!  I'd have to get some.  She said I could have those.  Next year, she wouldn't be living there, so I might as well take them and plant them in my little garden.  I told her I would.  Well when she showed up at my door she had eight purple tulip bulbs in a bag.  She said she just went ahead and dug them out and brought them along.

So i got back into the old clothes, went out and I planted those bulbs.  They probably wont do much this year, but hopefully next year, I'll have a nice row of purple tulips!

Throughout the afternoon, I watched two Classic Doctor Who serials; the underwhelming The Power Of Kroll and the quite good The City Of Death.  For supper I ate the two burger patties I had cooked last week.  And had the last of the mac salad and some chips with it.  After this, I wanted to get rid of the carbs, so I took a walk, over two miles in 36 minutes, going by the Post Office to mail a card I had.

After some more putzing online, I went to bed, to read some and then to sleep.  My legs, neck and shoulders were a bit stiff, from all the 'gardening' I was doing.  But nothing really that bad.  A good kind of ache...letting me know I had actually done something that day!

Chapter 4, Page 25...

Got to work Saturday without problems.  The morning was busy with the new clients.  The afternoon was busy spent catching up on the paperwork I had to do and I got it all done.

I came home, putzed around on the computer and ate a quick bite to eat before leaving.   I picked up mom and then we went to Michelle's house.  And then the three of us went to a local high school to watch their production of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee".  A pretty good production, actually.  I laughed quite a bit the first act.  After intermission, not so much.  But it was still a fun, good show.

Following this, as is tradition, we ate at The Waffle House.  I had some kind of special: two eggs, hash brown, two pieces of toast, bacon and a waffle.  And yes, all of that IS horrible to have at 1030 at night.  Especially drizzling the syrup all over the waffle....carb overload.  On a better note, this morning when i tested my blood sugar it was only 171.  Still kinda high, but pretty damn good for all I ate so late at night.

(just by means of explaining: Michelle and I have gone to this school's spring production for like 10 years together.  There's a lady I work with who had gone with us for several years.  So we got three tickets.  But then, Saturday night, she was unable to go, so I asked mom and she went.)

Chapter 4, Page 24...

So Friday, work went well, despite the potential for it to be horrendous.  But the other agency that I had to interface with today, unlike most months when I have to, didn't cause any problems.  And the rest of the day, despite the afternoon being a bit busy, was no real problem.

When I got home, I immediately went out front to de-weed the front garden.  Or as much as I could before my legs gave out.  And that was only about a quarter of the garden.  My thighs and calves just could take no more squatting down, or bending slightly, but constantly, as I dug those damn thistles out.  I swept up the ones I had removed and spread the weed killer over the bare part, and then packed it in for the day.  Next time I get out there, I'll have on old pants and probably sit or kneel directly down.  I should last longer that way.

I came inside, ate the Freddie's Sub I bought on the way home (DELISH!) and then settled in to watch another Doctor Who series: "The Androids Of Tara."   Meh.

After this, and bit of putzing online, I went to bed about 830, read for a bit over and hour and then was asleep before 1000.
