 So, several years ago I met my friend Paul's boyfriend Travis.  The three of us hung out over DC Pride a few years.  Then they broke up.  I kept in touch with both of them.  And Travis came to DC to hang out alone over Pride and he and I hung out during the parade.  And later, about three years ago, Travis came to Waynesboro for an extended weekend.  We hung out here, and had several bedtimesexxyfuns.

During his time here, when we were chatting, he mentioned he had been in a movie before.  A guy he was dating previously.was an independent movie producer and he gave Travis a bit part in one of them.  See, here's a still from the filming: 

So I just today found out the name of that movie, Chasing Pavement.  And I found out it's streaming for free on TUBI...which I somehow have on my Roku.  So I watched it this evening.

Not a bad movie.  Nothing earthshattering, but I enjoyed it.  And Travis got a whole scene where he read some poetry he wrote while other characters see things and a lot of things happen with just their eyes and the looks on their faces.

At any rate, I also find it kinda cool that Travis has has own Intermovie Database entry. 

But the whole point of this post is just to point out.....

I've had sex with a movie star!  More than once too!

So it's the end of 2017, and that means it's time to review the year and give you My Top Ten For 2017.

10. Turning 50

I'm half a century old!  My God, it just doesn't seem possible.  Course, I'm relly not complaining about it, because a LOT of people don't even get to turn 50, they die beforehand.  And the birthday itself really wasn't bad and quite uneventful.  Which is, frankly, just how I wanted it to.  It's just crazy to think I'm that freaking OLD!


9. Road To The White House

My favorite boardgame, for the last 25 years or so, has been The Road To The White House!  I loved this game.  When I lived back in the apartment, I played it at least once a week I'm sure, usually more than once a week. Ag would play it with me. Phoenix, when he and I hung out, would usually play it.  Anytime Johnnie visited, we'd play at least once game.

But for the last ten years perhaps, and certainly for the last 8 (because that's how long I've lived here in the house, and I never played it here), I've not played the game.  Until this fall.  

When Ghostie graduated Law School and took the bar (which he passed, congrats Ghostie!), I told him now that he had free time I'd teach him to play.  I was joking, but he said he wanted to learn.  So he and I have been playing it since....October?  Perhaps September.  We play about once every other week.  And it's still as much fun as it always was!  Whether I win or lose is irrelevant, I just love playing the game!

8. The Flu

I get the flu once a year usually.  Feel sick for a few days, rest, drink a lot of fluids, and then I'm over it.  Not THIS year!  I started feeling sick on a Saturday in January, and I'm telling you, this flu kicked my ass!

                                          

I was sick for like ten days.  I was off work and entire week.  I have NEVER in the 21 years I've worked at this job EVER been off sick anymore than three days at a time.  I just couldn't beat this thing...without a trip to Urgent Care and some anti-biotics and things to help with my cough, I don't know that I could have beaten it.  I don't know what it WAS that I had, but damn, I NEVER want it again!

7.  The Theater

This year, I went to the theater multiple times....and enjoyed myself at each and every one!

                                                       

Saw this in January (right before getting that horrific flu, see above), with Michelle, Lynn and Susie at the Kennedy Center in DC, and featuring a meal beforehand with them and VUBOQ!

                                                    

Saw this in April with Michelle at the Kennedy Center in DC, and I'm pretty sure this too included a meal with VUBOQ beforehand!

                                            

Saw this in May at the Old Opera House in Charlestown WV, with Michelle, her mother Betty and our mutual friend Celeste.  It was a....different play.  Unusual.  But entertaining.  And one of my old fuckbuddies had a small part in it as a butler!

                                                     

Saw this at Williamsport High School in April with Michelle. (We go to see their productions every year, not only because we like supporting high school theater, but the co-directors of the plays are the wife of a co-worker of mine, and the other one is an occasional fuckbuddy of mine)

                                             

Saw this in July at the Maryland Theater in Hagerstown with Michelle, Betty and Celeste again.  The same fuckbuddy who co-directed Guys And Dolls played the Scarecrow in this one.

                                                

Saw this in July at the Kennedy Center with Michelle and Lynn.  And even though the play, food and company were fantastic, the rides down and back were HORRIBLE.  Traffic jams, Metro closings, shuttle buses, torrential downpours, closed Metro stops.  Just horrible.

                                                      

And finally, I saw this in December at the Hershey Theater (in Hershey PA, duh), with Michelle. Not the best performance we've seen of Kinky Boots, but it's always a fun time!

6. Home Improvements

I had several things done to the house this year to improve it.

In May I had the old wood of the back porch replaced with that vinyl stuff.  No painting or rotting of wood like before.  And, since the old carpet on the porch floor was green (like the shutters) and getting ratty, I had it replaced with this spiffy new grey color! 

In June I repainted the front porch.  It was last done in 2010 and it was faded and chipping in places and very much needed it.

In July, my old fridge finally went KAPUT!  So I bought a new one. 

In November I FINALLY got the trench in basement fully filled in.  The plumbers had to dig it up to replace a pipe back in January of 2012!  I didn't start filling it in until Last fall, I think it was.  It took six different times and I have no idea HOW many bags of sacrete to fill it in.  But now it's done!

5. Physical Therapy

My left shoulder and bicep have been bothering me since the spring of 2016.  I finally mentioned it to the doctor and he got me to physical therapy the end of the last year.  I went three times a week, starting the first week of January through the end of February.  I was improving so much, the therapist cut it back to two times a week.  And then, in April....I plateaued.  I wasn't improving anymore.  I could feel it, she knew it.  So the beginning the May, after doing another assesment, she said she was discontinuing my sessions, as I wasn't improving.  I still had several sessions left that my insurance would pay for, if I needed them for anything else the rest of the year.  But she gave me directions and long rubber bands to take home and to keep practicing with and wished me good luck.  And I did the same to her....

...and promptly did no more exercises.  At all.  And now, not only has my left bicep reverted to the way it was last year, but now my right bicep hurts the same way.  Don't know what the outcome is gonna be on all this, but that's where it stands now.

4. Anxiety 

Yep, my old enemy anxiety came back this fall.  And at times, with a vengeance!  One night, I couldn't get to sleep and I think I had a panic attack in bed.  But I got through it.  At times, it was almost crippling. Still, it wasn't as bad as it was a few years ago when I had to go on meds for it.  And in the last two/three weeks or so, it's kinda subsided and gone away.  But for most of the fall, it was a continual, unwanted, companion. 

I guess this is something I'll have to deal with for the rest of my life. 

3. Visits

I had a number of unexpected, yet wonderful, visits this year!

In April, FDot visited for a week!  We went to the Gettyburg and Antietam Battlefields.  We took a tour of my workplace.  We walked along Carroll Creek in Frederick MD.  We ate at many local places.  He met and got a meal from Mama Polt.  I had an amazing week, and I hope he did too.  And I'm looking forward to a return visit sometime.

In June, I got to hang out with two very old and dear friends.  Thirty years ago, there were five of us who inseparable over the summer and beyond.  Now, we've all kinda drifted our own way, as happens.  My friend Duff and I still see each other every year for the Super Bowl, he hosts a party at his house.  We've done this for over 20 years.  But I've not seen the other three for years.  This year, Scott tried to get us all five together for a meal, but only three of us could make it.  So me, Scott (in the middle), his son, and Duff (on the right) had a breakfast/brunch one Sunday morning in June.  It was amazing to catch up with them (well Scott specifically, since Duff and I are kinda caught up).  Scott mentioned doing it again, and we both were for it.  Hopefully it happens.

In August, Long Island Travis came down for a weekend visit! What a great time, of fun, hanging out, bedtimesexxyfun, walking around, waching tv, and eating at the Waynesburger and from Rutters.   He loved Waynesburger so much we had food there all three days he was here.  For his Christmas present, I got the Waynesburger logo and made him a t-shirt with it on.  Hopefully he too will make it back for another visit sometime soon!

In October, my Fairy Godfather Mark, who moved back to Michigan more than ten years ago, made a trip back here.  He stayed with friends of his in Hagerstown, but he came up one evening to visit me.  We ate at Waynesburger and hung out at my place catching up.  It's like he hadn't even been gone that long, we got on so well.  He says he going to try to come back once a year, and that would be great to see him more often!

In November Dr. Ryan With The Cupcake, who lives in San Diego, was in DC for a conference.  I made the trip down once Saturday evening and we had a fun time, going to the National Zoo, walking the streets of DC and eating in a Chinese restaurant.  I've met most of the Puntabupeeps, he was one of the last I hadn't yet met (Mel and Mush I think are the only remaining ones).  And he's just as much fun and great company as you'd expect of a guy who mailed a banana cross country to Craiggers in Long Island a few years ago!

2. tRump destroys America

Everything this man and his administration are doing to this country, from legitimizing neo-Nazi, to vilifying the Free Press, to throwing 24 million Americans off their health care, to gutting social programs so billionaires like him can get obscene tax cuts, to throwing a lighted match onto the dry tinder that is the Middle East by moving our embassy, to making us the laughingstock of the world, to insulting all our allies while cuddling up to the world's dictators (in Russia, Philippines, Turkey, etc), to daily violating the Constitution's emoluments clause by having foreign governments spend money at this businesses, to lying every single time he opens his mouth....everything they are doing is destroying the fabric of this country.  Even if we are lucky enough to get a Democratic Congress next November that can halt his destruction, it'll still take decades, if not generations, to repair the damage these people have done to the foundations of our nation.  It is indeed a dark time.  Other than the Civil War, it is certainly THE darkest time we've ever had in the USA.

1. Diabetes

The end of may, my lower left leg went numb up to my knee. 

I started immediately eating even better than I have been and walking more.  And it went away.  Although since then, I have periodically had numbness and tingling in my toes, foot, ankle and lower leg.  It's VERY scary.   And it shows me how UNseriously I have been taking my diabetes in the last 17 years.  I've been trying to do better.  And have succeeded, somewhere.

In March, my A1C (long term diabetes number) was 9.4.  In July is was 9.4 still.  In November though, it was down to 7.6!

7.6 is still not an optimal number, but it's a helluva lot better than 9.4!  I hope to keep it lower or even get it lower still.  It's not been the best over the holidays, sometimes, but that's to be expected.  After New Years, I can get back to what I was doing in the fall and hopefully get and keep the diabetes under control!

Should auld acquaintance be forgot, 2016 edition....

2016 is over, and thank GOD!  what a horrid year.  But it's time for me to reflect over last year on a personal basis and reveal...

Polt's Top Ten List Of Important Events In 2016 (or something like that).

First of all there were a whole lot of things that happened that did NOT make the list.  Things like my new iPhone, seeing George Takei speak, another visit by my buddy Lewis and both of us going to my own hometown's first ever comicon, Downton Abbey ended and Captain America: Civil War was the Best Comic Book Movie EVAH, cutting down the tree in the backyard, the two Murder Mysteries I attended, binge watching all seasons of Game Of Thrones and falling in love with it, Blizzard Jonas in January, and then the God awful heat in July and August, my anxiety came back again, but it wasn't paralyzing like before and was only for a short period of the year, and of course, the visit to the Cabin Of Ill Repute!  While all of these impacted my life in 2016, I only had room for ten things on the list.  So here we go.

10. Refinancing My Mortgage

After paying on the original mortgage for 7 years, I still had 23 years left at 5% interest.  But after a very smooth refinancing procedure, I now have a 20 year mortgage, at 3.75 % interest, and my monthly payment is $50 less than what it was.  I still plan on paying the old amount, or even a bit more, each month cause that means I'll get it paid off sooner.  But this will have a hopefully beneficial effect on my finances in the future.

9. My Grandmother Died

My mother's mother died in January.  She was my last surviving grandparent.  She and I were never terribly close.  My mother visited her at the home several times a week.  I saw her, really, only a couple times a year. We just never were very close.  I still loved her, and she me, and so I'm sad to see her pass.  But she was 91 years old, had had a long, prosperous, productive life, and she was in poor health and wasn't going to be getting any better, so in the end, it ceased her suffering.  Goodbye grandma.

8. Bradford Beefeaters Trip

Back in early August, A Local Celebrity, Mr. David ParisPeking and I (after I MADE him agree to go), drove 5 hours to Bradford PA to eat at Beefeaters and have another Best Steak Of My Life.  We spent the night, had breakfast at the European Pastry Shop (again, delicious) and then returned home another 5 hours.  Not only did I have an AMAZING steak, and breakfast, and lots of fun with ALCMDPP, but it made me decide that every year, I'm making an overnight trip to do this, I'll just take someone different each year.  Should be a fun little overnight trip.

7. Belle

In March, mom bought a new car, she gave me her old one (BELLE!) and I gave her Sebastian to use as a trade in.  Belle's a sweet car. And she's already been to Toronto, Bradford, and DC!  Great car, even though she's a 2010.  I hope I have her for several years!

6. Health Issues

Had several health issues this year.  Back in April someone I dated several years ago was hospitalized with ocular syphilis. Even though I had not been with him in 4 years or more, getting syphilis in your eye can be a symptom of tertiary syphilis, meaning a long term infection.  So I got tested just in case and it came back negative.  THEN, over the summer, one of my current fuckbuddies texted me and said, "I've tested positive for syphilis, get tested!"  SIGH  So I did...again!  This one worried me because we had been together within the last month. But that one came back negative too.  PHEW!

Then in August I got this rash under my right armpit.  It was sore and hurt and eventually covered almost my entire armpit.  I went to the doctor and it was a yeast infection!  In my ARMPIT????  WTF?  Well they gave me some creme and I did as the doctor said and it went away, and hasn't come back.  Although, apparently, being diabetic makes one susceptible to yeast infection.  Goodie.

Then, about two years ago, my left shoulder, the muscles inside started aching a bit.  Back in April it got SO bad the pain did NOT go away, all night.  I tried ice, and pain killers and it was just an unending blast of pain.  And I was leaving like the next day for Toronto!  I got to the doctor's that morning, got a shot of something, got some pain killers and anti-inflammatories, and that helped a lot and made the pain get tolerable.  But after that I asked the doctor for the MRI.  I tried to get one in August, couldn't do it, too close.  Finally got one at a wider barrel MRI machine in November, and then in December went and lined up physical therapy to start in January.  The shoulder has tendonitis and a sprain or strain.  Still hurts, but hopefully, the physical therapy helps.

5.  Air Conditioning Malfunction At Work

Back in July and August, when they weather got all hot and humid, the A/C in my part of work decided to break.  So there was no relief from the heat.  I have NO windows in my office, and my office opens out into a hallway where there are no windows.  And the heat and humidity rose and rose.  When I entered my office several days at 8AM, the temperature was ALREADY at 85 degrees!  And it only got worse as the day went on. I already had a fan, but I bought another another one,   And even with two fans blowing directly on me, I could still just BARELY function.  Oh, I could complain with no problems, and I could sweat without difficulty.  But dear GOD, that's like inhuman.  They did get it fixed, after like four or five weeks, which is way sooner than I thought.  But the unit is the original one, when they built the building in 1986.  The unit is 30 years old!  It's time to change it. But I doubt they will (welcome to government procurement).  And I fear the issue will occur this summer as well.

4. Orlando

This tragedy struck me like none since 9'/11.  Fifty people slaughtered, just because they wanted to dance and have a fun night out....oh and because our country does not believe in sensible gun control....but I digress.  This shocked me to my core.  It made me feel...unsafe.  I was so shaken by this, two days later, on Monday, I needed some unconditional love and fun and happiness.  So I went to the ParisPeking household and hung out there with three pre-pubescent kids and two dogs for a few hours.  And who better to give unconditional love and fun and happiness than kids and dogs.  They helped immensely.  But still, ever since then, I just dont feel as....safe and secure in general as I did before.

3. DC Capitol Gay Pride Parade

Immediately prior to the Orlando shooting (the parade was in the afternoon, the shooting was the evening), the Pride Parade seems, in retrospect, to have been like a last 'fling' of fun and happiness.  At any rate, I went there with some of the normal friends and met some of the usual friends there.  Also, Travis From Long Island came to DC for Pride and he hung out with us.  And Diego from NYC came down as well and I got to meet him in person for the first time.  (Unfortunately, Diego and I have since parted ways, and I'm honestly not sure why....but I digress....).  The parade was fun as usual, the friends were fun as always, and a good time was had by all.  In the above photo, there is Travis From Long Island, Diego, me, and Derick.

2. Toronto

This April, I FINALLY got back to Toronto!  The last time I was there was in 2009!  WAY too long.  Lots of things had changed, but many things were still the same.  And being there with Michelle was amazing!  She's SUCH a great traveling companion.  We ate at new restaurants, saw two plays (including one with full frontal nudity!), and I experienced, in my 16 trips there over nearly 20 years, my first real Toronto snow!  I dont think I'll be getting back anytime soon (I have a mortgage ya know, even if it's been refinanced this year), but I really hope my next time there is NOT seven more years away!

1. Hillary Losing

Yes, that's the way I have to say it, as I can not yet acknowledge the 'winner' as such.  And yes, I am disappointed she lost, just as I was disappointed when Kerry lost, when Gore lost and hell, when Dukakis lost.  And just as I would be disappointed if she had lost to Bush, or Rubio or Kasich.  But losing the Electoral College to the Orange Cheeto (especially when she got almost 3 million votes MORE than him), is more than just a disappointment.  Having a narcissist, thin skinned, Russian puppet in the Oval Office is a threat to everything this country is.  With him there and Paul Ryan as Speaker, they can privatize Social Security, guy Medicare, slash or do away with minimum wages and unions, and yank the healthcare from 12 million Americans.  All the while...
-He'll put someone in as Secretary of State who has zero diplomatic experience, but who happens to be great and long time friends with Putin.
-He'll put someone in as Treasury Secretary, who is to regulate and keep an eye on Wall Street, someone who is a billionaire CEO FROM Wall Street.
-He'll put someone in as Labor Secretary who doesn't even believe there should BE a minimum wage. -He'll put someone in as Energy Secretary who said when he was running for President in 2012 that the Energy Department should be abolished.
-He'll put someone in a as Education Secretary who never attended public schools and believe public monies should go to vouchers for rich people to help defer the cost of private and parochial schools and just starve the public schools of funds.
-He'll put someone in charge of the Environmental Protection Agency who doesn't believe in climate change and global warming and, further, doesn't believe there should be ANY environmental protections.
-He'll put someone in as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development who has no experience in either housing or urban issues, but instead who's background is in neurosurgery....but then he IS Black, and you know the cities are where all those Blacks live, so.....
-And worst of all, he'll put people on the Supreme Court who will uphold all his uConstitutional measures and decisions and throw this country back to what is was during the Gilded Age more then a hundred years ago, when robber barons ruled and did what they wanted and the common man worked ten hour days, six days a week with no paid days off or sick leave or a livable wage.

If this country resembles in four years anything like it is now, it will be a miracle.  This, this my friends, and so much more, is why I am fearful, and scared, and expecting nothing good until we come out from under this new upcoming Dark Age.

Batten down the hatches and buckle up, its going to be a very unsafe, unsure and wild ride.

Yep, it's that time: Time for DC Gay Pride Parade 2016.  I dont think I took as many as I have in past years (mainly cause I was macking on Travis instead of snapping photos), and the ones I took some were pretty blurry, but, eh, here's what I got.

We didn't get an entire group photos this year, but here's the group photo I DID have taken: Travis From Long Island, Diego, Polt, and Derick.  In this one, I've got crazy eyes going on, but Travis is showing his great smile.

Eleanor Holmes Norton, DC's non-voting member of the US House of Representatives.  She's walked in every parade I've been to.  Every single one of them.  I hear she walks the entire parade route. WALKS it.  She's currently 79 years old!
