Someone book me a room (Part 289)...

Chapter 10, Page 15...

So Thursday, I somehow got up early and got to work a bit early (like 15 minutes or so) and yeah, I don't know how that happened either.  At any rate, work was fine.  I got the normal weekly stuff done that needed to be done and even a few of the monthly things I needed to get done.  All was good.

After work, though I was very VERY tired.  And not terribly hungry.  I've been feeling very stressed again lately.  Not apathetic or anxious or anything really bad like before, just overly stressed and feeling a bit overwhelmed.  Hence, my tiredness and lack of appetite.  I did eat a few spoonfuls of chicken salad and some Doritos, so that's good.  I was on the computer a bit, and watched a few episodes of Bob's Burgers (working my way through the whole series!), and even read a little bit.  But by 8pm, I had had it.  So i took my pills, gave myself my insulin shot, shut down the computer and went to bed.

I laid there for a bit, reading and on the phone. But before 9:00, I turned out the light and soon went to sleep.  When I get stressed, or overly anxious, or worried, or things like that, I've discovered, what I do most often is just sleep.  Even if I've slept well recently, I dont seem to have any problem falling into a nap or regular sleep.  It's like that's how my body (or my mind) deal with that stress, etc: we go to sleep so we don't experience it.  I guess that's not really dealing with it, but, eh, whatever.

Anyway, I'm working through the stressors and anxiety inducers.  I mean, logically, I know there's very little reason for me to be so stressed about these things....but actually putting that logic in to action (meaning, NOT being overly stressed), isn't an easy thing to do.  But I'll work through it.  Hopefully sooner, rather than later.

Love has taken its toll, love has....

I may, or may not, have mentioned back in June, that on the way back from Pride, I made a wrong turn and ended up going the wrong way on that damn toll road again.  This happened several years ago on the way done.  And of course, I went through the toll area (never did see a booth or anything) and knew I'd eventually have to pay a fee again.

And yep, yesterday, it arrived.  From the Maryland Transportation Authority.  A bill for $2.15.  Gonna break the bank there, I guess.  At any rate, I just paid it tonight and have it ready to be mailed tomorrow.

I got no problem paying it, as I DID go through (somewhere) where I was supposed to pay a toll, and didn't pay it.  I just wish they'd highlight or sign a bit better the ways onto the toll road, and the possible exits prior to it to avoid it.

But whatever, it's only $2.15.

August in Virginia, a warm brandy night....

I HATE August.

It's clearly THE worst month of the year.

It is hot.  It is humid.  It is sticky.  It is muggy.   There is not a single recognized holiday to get you a day off work during the entire month.  There is not a single recognized holiday to have you celebrate anything during the entire month.

When I was still in school and college, August meant the end of my vacation and that I was soon going to have to go back.  When I was watching network TV, the month contained nothing but reruns.  The only sport on TV is baseball...blech.

There is NOTHING pleasant, happy or fun about the month of August.  It just simply sucks.  The ONLY good thing about it is that when it's over, the cooler weather of autumn is on the way, and football will soon be filling my weekends.

But until then.....I just wanna go to sleep and wake up when it's over.

You're setting off my charm alarm....

So, the ParisPeking house is not a burned cinder and the dog is still alive. But everything did NOT go smoothly.  Allow me to explain:

I got to their house right after work.  I opened the front door, walked to the alarm box and promptly entered the wrong number.  Even though I had the correct number on a piece of paper right in front of me.  I hit one number wrong.  But I knew I did.  So I pushed one of the colored buttons, thinking that may...I dont know allow me to reboot and start over or something.  But the beeping continued, so I simply entered the correct number.  And the beeping stopped.

I figured I had better call the company just in case they got some kind of report.  But the dog was practically clawing her way through the door, so I opened it to take her out. I figured if they were going to send the cops of whatever, it would take the cops longer to get here than it would take to let the dog out.

So out we went and she did her business.  I brought her back in and gave her her dogfood.  And then I called the number on the alarm box.  I told the woman I had come over to let my friend's dog out and I think I might have set the alarm off.

She asked for the phone number.  I gave her mine.  She said she needed the one that the owners would have given.  I didn't know his number off hand, and while I was trying to locate it in my phone, she just said, "Well how about the address?"

I told her i knew the street but not the house number.  And then I remembered they had it on the mailbox outside.  So i told her I'd go out and get it.  But I had to give it to her three times, cause either we had a bad connection, or she couldn't hear me through my panic.  Also, while I was outside I heard a siren approaching.  So naturally I think it's coming this way.  But I believe it was on the way to the nearby hospital because it didn't come to the house.

So after getting the address correct, I had to spell the name of the town "H, as in Harry, A as in Arnold, G and in George" cause again, she was having trouble hearing me.  But when she got it all, then she said, "Is this the house of (their first names)?"  And said it was.  So then she tells me she needs some security number or passcode or whatever.  David had written by the alarm box two code numbers, which I gave her.  And she was silent.  But I remember David had told me some password or something, so I gave that to her, and she said that was what she was looking for.

And then she said, "No there's no code coming from that house."

So I was all like, "Okay, that's good sorry to bother you."  I think she hung up without saying goodbye.  But maybe I was just so relieved I didn't hear her say anything.  So then I let the dog out again, and she had to do some more of her business.

When we came back in, I decided I had to go potty now, so I came out of the kitchen, started up the short flight of stairs and saw someone standing up at the top of them and promptly screamed like a sorority girl in a slasher film and almost fell back down the stairs.  I'm lucky I didn't piss all over thier stairs.

As it turns out, it wasn't a person, but one of those standup, portable heaters in the middle of the hall.  And while standup portable heaters don't really look anything like a person, in the dark of the hallway and the quick glimpse I initially had, I just figured that's what it was.

While I was peeing, the dog laid right outside in the hallway (right next to the heater), looking up at me the whole time.  So when I was done, we went to the couch, and I played with her a bit and rubbed her head and tummy and talked to her and stuff.  Just cause I figured she might want some contact.  Then I took her out again one last time, and she did some more of her business.  Coming back inside, I had difficulty getting the back door shut, which David told me I would have as it was tough to shut, but I got it done.

I then put the dog back in the room she was staying in, said goodbye to her, and went to the alarm box.  I typed in the on code, slowly, to ensure I got it right.  But after doing so, I didn't hear it beeping like it did when he set it the night before to show me.  Or, then I though, was it supposed to beep like that when I turned it off?  I didn't remember.  So not wanting to put the number in again and possibly screw things up, I just left the house, locked the door, got in my car and started driving home.

"Even if I didn't turn the alarm on," I thought, "They won't know it.  And I can just make sure tomorrow I do it right and dont screw it up like i did tonight."  But then I immediately thought, "but what if someone breaks in?  How will I explain that to them?"  So after driving less than three minutes, I made a u-turn, turned the car around, and headed back.

Going back inside, I went to alarm box again, but it wasn't beeping at all.  And then I noticed the alarm light wasn't lit.  So obviously I hadn't turned it on.  So I punched the number in again, slowly...and still nothing. SO now it was time to call David.

When he answered, I told him I couldn't get the alarm on.  he told what to do (inadvertantly giving me to off code for the on code, but I caught that one, and he gave me the correct one), and at the end, mentioned that the front door needed to be closed.  Which I didn't know and which had been hanging wide open both times I tried.  So I shut the door, entered the code and everything went swimmingly then.  So I went outside, locked the door, swore at David a bit, hung up got in my car and came home.

There were NO problems Saturday morning before work when I let the dog out, except that I couldn't get the backdoor open and I was afraid she was gonna go right there in the kitchen.  But she didn't, and instead spend about ten minutes walking around the backyard taking care of her business.  And she would not go back into the room willingly, I  had to pick her up and carry her in.  Other than that, no problems.

So while I had no problems with the dog, the alarm system was an entire other story!

I'm back in the saddle again....

Well Im typing this to you from my newly reformatted laptop.  StratCat spent like four hours here (and I spent $21 for shrimp and $12 buck for Asti for us both as a thank you gift to her), and got everything refomatted, all the stuff downloaded, and it's back up and running.

There are some small differences, like when I loaded my iTunes back on every single song is now in there twice, and I forgot to save all my previous playlists, which SUCKS, but at least I've got iTunes back again.  And I still dont have any of my photos or documents reloaded back on, so there is that.  But my anti-virals are up and running and she's running like a charm!  the laptop, not StratCat....although she may be running that way anyway.

So, assuming I can get all my other shit uploaded tomorrow by myself, without any problems (which is by NOT means assured), I'll be back to posting to The Palace pretty regularly again, hopefully by the weekend.

Three cheers for StratCat!  Laura, you freakin' ROCK!

Blogging may be a bit light for a short while, I've got yet ANOTHER virus. :(

Corey come over last night to look at it.  he said this is a bad one.  it's disabled all my anti-virals, AND it's disbaled our ability to sue restore points.  *SIGH*  Corey said he'd have to spend several hours working on it, and he knows he could get it back to working order, but his fear is that he wouldn't get it all, that part of it could be hidden somewhere, and it would just rise up and attack again in six months, or a year or whatever.  he suggested we just reformat it and start over to be sure.

*SIGH*

So I spent last night saving photos and documents to a flashdrive to reinstall later.  Also, gotta figure out what I'm gonna do with iTunes, it'd be a pain to have to reinstall all my own CDs that I've done so far.

Whatever.

I can still use it, I just dont have any antivirals running, so I'm going to  use it sparingly, thus, why I say posting may be limited.  And I've got to find the discs that came with it.  They were sitting on my coffee table forever, and I remember telling myself I need to put them someplace safe, where I"ll never forget where they are, and....well, yeah, I totally forgot where I put them.  But once I find them, I'll call Corey and he'll come over and help me get it back up and running.

He did end up spending the night last night on the couch again, so we had a lot of time to talk, which is always cool.  That's about the only good thing to this whole damn virus shit: getting to hang with him.

Ah well, if you see posts on here, great, if not, you'll see them again sometime soon in the future, sooner rather than later I hope.  And I've still got my iPhone so I'm not totally cut off from the outside world at home.  That's at least one good thing.

Gotta lay low til' you get to the keypad...

Who are the geniuses who decided to put the keypad on a telephone unpside down from a keypad on an adding machine or calculator?

When I was a shift supervisor at CVS drugstore, one of my duties was on nights I closed to make the deposits. I had to total up the checks on an adding machine and attach the tape to the checks. At any rate, I got to the point where I didn't even have to look at the keys, the fingers on my right hand just knew which key to hit when my eyes saw the amount on the check. Easy-peasy.

But now when I'm dialing the phone and looking at the number cause it's not familiar, like at work sometimes....like today for instance, the fingers on my right hand end up resorting to what they knew before and typing a 3 instead of a 9 or a 1 instead of a 7.

If the inventor of the phone keypad and the inventor of the adding machine had just gotten their shit straight, this world would be a much more consistent, not to mention less accident prone, place.

The technical difficulties, unbreakable...

Due to technical issues with my camera *rassen-frazzen* that I just discovered a short while ago, I will not have an HNT posted this week. I hope to have everything resolved and I can post two next week. *rassin-frazzle-missen-masten*

But you can still click HERE for what others have posted this week!
