One year ago, this past weekend, I was in NYC for Tam's Goodbye To North America Bash (ironic that she was back in NYC one year later to the exact weekend, but whatever).  And naturally, with all the Puntugang in full force, I had a blast.

Kristen, The Kidlette, took this photo of myself, Tam, and john eliot:

Pretty good shot, I thought.  earlier this year, I put it into that online thingee where you submitted photos and it told you, based on the person's face, each person's gender and age.  And this is the result:

Damn!  That thing is DEAD on accurate, eh?

Chapter 6, Page 28...

Sunday, I got up a little late, and didn't feel at ALL like getting a shower or doing anything, so I didn't.  For a while.  Eventually I threw on some clothes, a hat to cover my hair, and when to moms.  We decided to just eat in town at the Parlor House.  The broiled haddock was delicious as always.

Afterwards, we went to the new grocery store to get a few things.  I then dropped her off and came home.  And did really nothing at all.  On the couch or bed, online, napping, finished up the book I was reading and started a new one.

Eventually, since I had a card to mail, and since it was a beautiful day, I decided to take a walk.  And so I did, to the Post Office and through the town park (where I shamelessly ogled the hot guys playing basketball when I walked by the court).  And there was this amazing breeze the entire time.  And it was cool, for June.  And zero humidity.  Just as summer is supposed to be.

Later, I was reading on the couch, having put my glasses on the couch next to me while I read.  When i went to pick them up, I ended just holding the one earpiece with the lenses and the other earpiece laying under the coffee table!  The screw had come out.  Obviously, I couldn't find it, but luckily I have a repair kit in a kitchen drawer.  And after futzing around with it for like twenty five minutes (those screws are TINY, especially when you've got large fat fingers and no glasses on to see them with), I got it put back together.  It wasnt perfect, the screw I had used was a bit too long and stuck out the top very slightly.  But still they were together. I'd planned to go to the eye place Monday to have them look at it.

After than I had supper of a ham slice, eggs, toast and some strawberries (have I ever mentioned I LOVE strawberries).  After that, I sat down and updated my checkbook and paid all my bills for the month of July and got them ready to mail.  And I got a list ready to go Monday to get all my cards for July. Looks like Monday might turn out to be a busy day.

Later, I spent some time texting with john eliot, as well as chatting with a guy on a hookup app about getting together Monday.  As I said, Monday might be a busy day.

And then I went to bed, read a bit and to sleep.

POLT

Monday, Monday....ah, ahhh, ah, ah, ah, ahhhhh....

So today is DEFINITELY Monday.  All this happened within the span of one hour.

1) I had tentative plans set up for a new guy I met on a hookup app.  Messaged him to see when he wanted to come over and basically it ended with him getting all indignant because I was wanting just a little NSA fun and not a relationship.  When I made clear to him last night, that's not what I wanted.

Whatever.  Over it.

2) Right about the same time I sent him my last text, Shockwave on my laptop crashed (for some reason, it's NOT an uncommon occurrence on my laptop).  But this time, the entire computer locked up as well.  I couldn't close any pages, in fact the cursor froze.  What else was there to do but do a hard reboot?  So I held down the on/off button until the computer went off.  I waited a few seconds and then turned it back on.  The Windows screen came up (ya know the one with the four colors in the middle) and then that too froze.  So I did another hard reboot.  This time when it came back on, it did a little higgity-jiggity stuff, and I got THIS on my screen!

Oh joy.  "This might take several minutes" it says.  Okay.  So while it's chugging away....

3) I go out to the kitchen and remember there's a few bottles and papers and stuff I want to put in the recycling bin.  So I grab them, open the back door, open the screen door (the recycling container is right outside), open the container and drop them in...and then hear the back door slam shut behind me.

Leaving me locked outside.

With the keys inside.

With my phone inside.

And me standing there in a shirt with the sleeves cut off, grey boxer shorts and white socks.  And that's it.

*SIGH*

I had a key in one of those lock things where you have to know the combination to open it, so I can't get locked out of my house without having a way in.  But....it's on the front porch.  *DOUBLE SIGH*

So I shrug and off I go.  Walking down the alley (ensuring that the bottoms of my previously white socks are no longer), going up the front steps RIGHT ALONG A BUSY STREET, and across my front porch to where the lock thing is.  And while I putting the combination, this black guy comes walking down the street and turns up the alley looking RIGHT AT ME.

What can I do?  I know and say, "Sup."  He nods back and continues on his way.  yeah, I'm cool like that.

Anyway, I get the key, get back in the house, throw on some shorts (I guess the wind blew through the front window, through the house, and blew the back door shut), and then see the computer is STILL doing the same thing it was doing before.

So yeah, those three things....just like a Monday.

On the plus side, after sitting there doing nothing for like a half hour, the computer puts up a message saying it could not repair the problems, but did I want to send the info of what it found, off to Microsoft?  I hit yes.  It did a little more and then told me to click the Finish button to end and if it still didn't come back on, to alert my IT rep or computer manufacturer.  GREAT!

So I hit finish, it shut down.  I left it sit for a few minutes, and then started it up, and....everything's work just fine so far.  That's why I'm able to type this.  How long it holds out, I have no idea, but fingers crossed it's all taken care of.

Now if I can just get through the rest of the day without breaking a bones, or crashing my car, or blowing up the house, I'll call it a good day.

Someone book me a room (Part 178 & 179)...

Chapter 6, Page 26...

I've already covered a bit a Friday earlier, so I'll just cover it quickly here.  At work, I got the important stuff done first, then at 10:00am, got onto SCOTUSblog and watched the news of the Supreme Court decision.  And I spent pretty much the remainder of the day checking out social media.

After work, I went to mom's, as we had planned.  She had ham, potatoes and green beans.  Yummy.  After that I came back here, watched more on TV and online about gay marriage, had myself two beers to celebrate and, frankly, cried a little bit.  Then I went to bed to read and to sleep.

Chapter 6, Page 27...

Saturday I got to work a bit late, just couldn't get up.  I got all the important stuff done before lunch, the rest of the afternoon was easy, catching up on assorted paperwork or talking with coworkers.

I got home from work and it was a beautiful day.  It was overcast and rainy, but the temps weren't much higher than 70 and there was a great breeze.  Much MUCH better weather than the high 90's oppressive humidity from a few weeks ago, despite the rain.  I spent the day inside, on my couch, doing the usual: reading or on the computer.

I was also exceptionally horny, so I placed an ad on Craigslist.  I ended up getting five replies to it, but after chatting with them, only one guy was able to come over.  And he did.  But I think he was a smidge older than the 36 years he claimed to be.  Still, whatever cologne he was wearing smelled really good, and his oral skills were good enough to get the desired results, so all in all, not a bad time.

Then after, putzing online some more, I went to bed, read and then to sleep.

POLT

Why is it always Marsha, Marsha, Marsha....

Well boys and girl, meet Marsha P. Johnson.

No one knows who actually threw the first punch in the Stonewall Riots, but it's universally accepted
the Marsha P. Johnson was one of the first to fight back against the police that night.

Marsha P. Johnson (The P. stood for, according to her, "Pay it no mind".) one of the many to tell the police, NO, you can NOT treat us this way any longer.  In the early 70's, she helped found a group that gave food, clothing, shelter and help to other young drag queens, transwomen, and homeless gay and lesbian kids in New York City.  In the 80', she became and AIDS activist as well when she joined ACT-UP.

Unfortunately, she died in 1992, her body found floating in the river the day after the Gay Pride festivities that year.  The police, with little investigation, ruled her death a suicide.  Finally, in November of 2012, the police re-opened her case a possible homicide. It remains unsolved.  She was 48 at the time of her death.

Despite her tragic end, its unfortunate more of us don't know Marsha P. Johnson, and others like her.  Because, without them and what they started 46 years ago, we could not possibly have had the monumental Supreme Court ruling we did just this last Friday.  So today, I'll say a little thank you to Marsha P. Johnson, for all she did for me, even though she never knew me, and I, sadly, never knew of her until just recently.

Northstar

You may have noticed (or maybe not) that I've been listing these alphabetically.  If that's the case, you'll also that this one is out of order.  That's because I saved Northstar for today, the 28th.  Because today, the 28th, is the date of the Stonewall Riots, the day that began the gay rights movement.  And while Northstar was not technically the FIRST gay superhero, he was the first already established and well known superhero to come out as gay.  And that was a BIG FREAKIN' DEAL!

Northstar first appeared in Uncanny X-men #120 in April 1979.  Jean-Paul Beaubier was a mutant born with the abilities of super speed and flight.  He also was born a twin (to his sister Aurora) and a Canadian.  He was a member of the Canadian super team Alpha Flight, as well as later a member of the X-men.

I can still remember reading Alpha Flight #106, wherein Northstar proudly says, "*I* am gay!"

How amazing it was to actually hear those words uttered by an established character.  Not a supporting one, not one created just to do that and then fade away, and one that you knew was not going to be killed off...it gave me goosebumps.

And I also remember how proud I felt when, even though I wasn't buying Marvel Comics at the time, I purchased a copy of Astonishing X-Men #51, in late June of 2012.  It was the issue where Northstar married his longtime partner Kyle, with all the Marvel Super-heroes, X-Men, Avengers, Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, the Hulk, etc, ALL of them in attendance.  And they didn't shy away from this on the cover either.

So just as gay rights themselves have come a LONG way in the last twenty-odd years, so have comic books.

Going to the chapel and I'm, gonna.....

This morning I had some paperwork that I HAD to get done, and did.  And I made it back to my office exactly at 10:00 AM.  I immediately got online to the SCOTUSblog site, to see what the Supremes did with the same sex marriage case.

First message was Kennedy was reading it.  That gave me hope.  And then I saw that the court had ruled for same sex marriage.  I gave a little whoop in my office, wiped my wet eyes, and immediately hit social media.  I spent the next twenty minutes on Facebook, Twitter and Yahoo.  And I smiled like a fool the entire time.

I did little through out the day.  There were other things I had to do, and I did them.  But my mind wasn't on it.  I wasn't as bad as some online friends, who spent the afternoon celebrating with champagne and hugging each other (oh, if only I could have done that), but my mind was nowhere NEAR work.

Even now, I don't think it's hit me.

I remember 2004, that election, when Karl Rove got all that anti-gay marriage amendments in all the states to be voted on, using gay rights as a ralling point to bring out voters anxious to vote for hate and bigotry.  I remember 2003, when the Supreme Court ruled anti-sodomy laws throughout the country as illegal.  How happy it made me to know I could no longer go to jail just to having sex.  I remember also in 2004 when Massachusetts became the first state to allow gay marriage, how happy I was, but I knew MY state of Pennsylvania wouldn't have it for many many years to come.  And nationwide gay marriage probably wouldnt even happen in my lifetime, I knew.

I remember 2012, when Maryland, the state I work in, had the voters, the PEOPLE of Maryland, approve gay marriage for its citizens.  But I knew Pennsylvania was still years away, and the nation as a whole even further.

I remember two years ago today, the outright SHOCK I felt, while at work, when I heard the Supreme Court had overturned DOMA and said the Federal government could no longer refuse to recognize gay marriages where they were already legal.  I remember in 2014, when through the courts, gay marriage became legal in my own state, and how happy I was.

But today....today, is even moreso.  Even though I could already have married the man I loved in the state I lived in, today was so much more.

Not only does it free gays and lesbians EVERYWHERE to marry who they love, this decision does more.  It says, paraphrasing Justice Kennedy, that gays and lesbians are 'deserving of equal dignity' under the Constitution.  It says that now, EVERYONE knows and legally MUST recognize that gays and lesbians are NOT second class citizens.  That we are NOT just here to be mocked, and beaten up, and degraded and discriminated again and the whim of the majority.  It says we, it says *I* am equal to EVERYONE else in this country, regardless of who I love and may decide to marry.

As I type this, for the first time today, I actually am crying.  My cheeks are wet. I simply can not believe this day has come, and so quickly.  Just 11 years ago, nowhere in the USA could I marry the man I love, and not I can do it anywhere.   The speed of this chance, and the change in public opinion, from 27% approving in 1996 to over 60% approving now, is just mind boggling.

I am truly overwhelmed.  And now, despite having to work tomorrow morning, I'm going to have a few drinks to commemorate this occasion.

Oh, and here's some things I've seen online today.
