So, you may have heard, my cute lil Singaporean friend Louis, is visiting for the weekend. So this week, I've been tidying up the house a little bit. I've cleaned the dining room, living room, my bedroom, and the upstairs hallway. I planned to leave the bathroom for this evening after work.
Last night, about 9:15 or so, I was getting ready for bed and I thought I could just clean the toilet and sink now. So I did. I cleaned the toilet, no problem. I cleaned the sink, but as I was doing so, the gasket on the stopped popped off.
I put it back in and....it got stuck. Couldn't get it out. Tried to use tweezers and such to pull it out, it wasn't happening. My guess is that since the clevis strap and the pivot rod both moved, but the gasket wasn't moving, that was the problem. And since Louis was coming up the next night, I didn't want to let it go too long. But that late at night, what could I do then?
So the next morning at about 7AM, I called mom. I explained the problem to her and asked if she could call a plumber and then come in and wait for them. The only thing on her schedule was a dentist appointment in the afternoon, so she said she could do it, no problem.
At about 815 she called me at work and said she let a message at this one plumbers and then when they didn't call, she called them back and the lady claimed she was too busy to check the messages so far. So mom said to me, "Screw them, you want me to call Martz plumbing?" I was like sure, whatever.
So she called me a bit later and said Martz plumbing said there was a guy who was coming back soon and they'd send him over. I told her that was great and asked if she wanted to me to show her how the remotes worked for the TV, and she said no. She said, "I cleaned your kitchen sink. And I put your recyclables out in the bin. And swept the kitchen floor. And I'm moping it now."
I sighed. I told her she didn't have to do that, but she told me it was no problem.
So a bit later, she called me to tell me the plumber had called and was almost done with his lunch and he'd be at my house in about 15 minutes. I said that's great and did she want me to tell her how the remotes worked?
Mom: "No, because I was upstairs to get the vacuum and-"
Me: "Wait, you were washing the kitchen floor, why did you need the vacuum cleaner?"
Mom: "Well there was some dirt on the dining room floor, so I had to clean that up, and then I saw they living room rug needed a bit of vacuuming-"
Me: "I just cleaned the living room earlier this week!"
Mom: "Well it needed it a bit more. And anyway, when I went upstairs to get the vacuum I saw how dusty the hallway was-...did you say you cleaned the hallway?"
Me: "......yes.:
Mom: "Well I vacuumed that again for you and when I was near your bedroom I saw all this dust underneath your bed, so I had to get the broom to get under there to get it out, but after cleaning all that up I got some on the rug in there so I had to vacuum that too."
Me; "......sigh.......So, now that cleaned my entire house, do you need me to show you how to use the remotes for the TV?"
Mom: "Well not right now. I had a roast beef sandwich and some chips a bit ago and now I'm eating some cheese and having a Diet Coke. Is that okay?"
Me: "You've spent the day at my house waiting on a plumber and cleaned my entire house and you're asking if it's okay if you eat some my food???? Eat as much as you want."
She laughed and then asked how she did turn the TV on, so I told her. And we hung up with me chuckling.
End of the tale is that she called back and said the guy was there and did fix it. But when I asked about the dentist appointment, she said when she got there they asked if she was busy tomorrow because he's way backed up. So she got her appointment moved to tomorrow and didnt actually get to see him today. But the upside is, he dentist is MY dentist, who is literally just across the street from my house, so she didn't have to go very far to find out her appointment was changed.
But still.....Mama Polt......she's a saint.
