My birthday song, my happy world (Part 43)....

Badass Birthday

Today forty years ago, one of the best athlete ever was born: Michael Phelps!

This is him with ALL of his Olympic medals, twenty-eight of them, more than any other Olympian in history. His total is ten more than the next closest athlete's total. That's certainly a badass!

Oh, and here you can also see those tree trunks thighs of his...also pretty badass.

I've got books lining me shelves, day and night...

Last night, since Ollies was having a 15% off everything for all members and 25% off on area rugs, and since my living room rug is 16 years old and a little frayed (but not a lot), I thought I'd go check and see if I can find a rug I like that I might want. And I took mom along.

Superhero Anydays

This is by Jerry Ordway, and it shows a bunch of heroes featured prominently in the first several issues of the All-Star Squadron. This series took place on Earth-2 in the World War II era. Nominally, the All-Star Squadron was composed of all the superheroes in the USA at that time (by order of President Roosevelt), but in actuality, there was usually a core group of like 6, 8, 10 heroes at any one time.

In the air: Johnny Quick, Dr. Fate, Green Lantern, Firebrand II, Hawkgirl, Hawkman, Tarantula and the Shining Knight above them all.

On the ground: The Atom, Amazing Man, Robotman, Plastic Man, Liberty Belle, Steel, Guardian, Hourman

Today, in 1982, SNL Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost as born!

He and his cohost Michael Che are pure comic gold most Saturday nights. And he joins a long line of memorable Weekend Update hosts including Seth Myers, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon, Dennis Miller, Jane Curtain, all the way back to Chevy Chase. And come on, with his baby face there's no freaking WAY he's 43 years old! He's 25 if he's a day. Come ON!

But none of this is what makes him a badass. Why is he a badass? Cause he snatched up Scarletl Johannsen, the Black Widow herself, and made her his wife!

Any man who can snag Soviet Super Spy Natasha Romanov herself has GOT to be a badass!
