And so we end this serious with one of my favorite board games of my youth: Whosit? !

Each player gets a character card, one of the characters on the board.  And then they're each dealt a certain amount of questions cards.  Questions like: Are you in a Red Room?  Are you female?  Do you wear a hat or helmet?  Are you smoking?  Etc, etc, etc.  And by keeping track, you have to guess who each of the other players are, all at the same time.  The winner is the one who gets all the other correct. 

What made it fun was the four corners!  There's the Censor who always says NO to any question.  There's the Spy and the Gangster to lie about every question asked.  And the Director, who can answer in any way he pleases to any question.   I always loved having the Director.  When I got him, I'd choose another character and answer all the questions as if I were that person, thus throwing everyone off. 

It was just a fun, easy to play game.

Today we have Which Witch?, one of those games again that I didn't own by my neighbors did.  And we played it a lot.  And I remember nothing about it other than it was a three D game board having the doorway and the stairs shown here.  And I remember I enjoyed.

Stratego, both my neighbors and I had this game, and we played it at each other's houses all the time.  Fun game.

This was the board game for Stop Thief!  It was another 'computer game' from circa 1980, wherein there was thief in one of these stores, and the players had to catch him. I don't remember all the specific rules, but what I remember is, at times, the computer would have the thief 'run', and it would give off sounds like feet running, doors slamming, subway traveling, break glass, etc, etc.  And you could use those sound to track him and narrow in on where he currently is. 

It was all pretty awesome and mind blowing for a 13 year old Polt in 1980 right around the same time Pacman was just coming out.

The Sinking Of The Titanic!  Oh my GOD, how I played this game!  Oover and over.  Each turn, your rotated the upper part (the Titanic) clockwise, and gradually, the water rose up and cut off rooms and corridors.  The player's jobs, as members of the Titanic Crew, was to get passengers, in various rooms, from wherever they were up to the lifeboats at the top of the ship.  And then make sure they themselves get onto a lifeboat too!  As the lifeboats hit the water, they were launched onto the board at the bottom, whether the crew was onboard or not.

Then the second part of the game started: players needed to get their lifeboat to the islands on the board and awaited rescue.

Man, I even remember some of the passengers: a lil boy, a teenaged girl, an old man and woman, among others.  Each had a name and a photo on card or something.  I, being the softhearted kid I was, always tried to rescue the 'vulnerable' passengers first.  But some of the were in cabins the went under water early, so you had to rush to get them.

This was such a fun game. I wish I still had it.

Had this when I was a kid, very pre-pubescent Polt.  And man I remember playing this a lot!  Quite enjoyed a lot!

Ratrace!  What a fun game.  Players purchase a business and move around the outer square and as they expand and get bigger, they move to the middle square (the middle class) and then if they get successful enough they can move to the inner square (high society).   I don't remember, honestly, how else it is played, but I remember having lots of fun playing it with friends.

Payday was kinda like Life, but different.  This one I enjoyed quite a big more.  You went through this calendar (3 months, 6 months or 12 months). You got paid.  You got mail the included pointless ads and postcards, but there were also bills that had to paid. You could get the opportunity to purchase a "deal" and then hopefully be able to sell it to a "buyer" at some later point for hopefully more money.  There were also taxes and potential inheritances and lottery wins.  The goal was to have, at the end of however many months you were playing, more money than your opponents. 

And frankly, this game did more to teach a nearly teen Polt more about adult life than any other game I ever played!

Such a simple game, but oh MAN, that buzzer!  I jumped even when I wasn't being the "surgeon" removing something!  Again, this one I didn't own, but the neighbor did and we played it frequently.  Also, some cousin or other had it too and for several years brought it to the Thanksgiving Reunion, and we played it there (the noise in that large room echoed and irritated our parents too...which made it even more fun!).

Ah, Mousetrap.  This is another game that I did not own myself, but my neighbors had it.  And quite a few times when I went to their house, we'd break this game out and play it.  Many times.  Sometimes back to back.

Mastermind!  My mother and I played this game almost constantly...or so it seemed.  It was fun to both be the guesser AND to be the one who chose the four color.  What fun!

The game of Life.  *SIGH*  Not my favorite game ever but man did us neighborhood kids play the hell out of it circa 1980.  Here, the box cover looks like that classic game that we played, but the board itself looks like the newer version.  Twenty years ago, or so, Ag and I thought of playing a game of it, but I no longer had mine, so I went out and bought one then.  It was the newer game, and there were things changed about the game and board and look of it and neither she nor I really liked.  So we played the one game and then it's been just put away on a shelf ever since.

This is the Honey West board game.  Honey West was a tv show from 1965, involving a female cop, I think.  At any rate, I was about 12 or so and I went to a yard sale with mom and they had this game there, probably for just a quarter or something.  And I talked mom into getting it for me.  I'm not sure that all the parts were there, and I'm pretty sure I never actually played the game as it's supposed to be played.  But I remember fooling around with it as a kid, playing it by my own rules, I think.

I got this one in the late 70s too, of course, back when Happy Days was all the rage.  I remember having it, and playing it, sorta, but I don't know that I actually enjoyed it all that much.  But I'm pretty sure I had fun playing it.  And I guess that's all the matters.

I like the Gilligan's Island cartoon more than the live action (but then, I was 8-10 years old) when the cartoon aired.  And at the same age, I saw this game and had to get it.  I enjoyed playing it, it was a 3D game, as part of it looked like a jungle and stuck up out of the back of the board.  Anyway, as a kid, it was fun and enjoyable.

I saw this game on the shelf and MAN did I HAVE to have it!  Loved the movie at the time (I was like 13) and so I bought the game, got it home, opened it up, saw this board and thought, "....What the hell?" 

Was hugely disappointed.  I thought, "that's a STUPID board!  I HATE this game!" (remember I was a temperamental teen).  But when I actually sat down and read the rules a few years later, I figured out how it was played and it seemed like it could be fun.  And lo and behind, it WAS!  And several years after that I introduced Phoenix to the game and we played it frequently, along with The Awful Green Things From Outer Space.  Both actually turned out to be fun games!

This was such a fun game.  The 'computer' (circa 1980....so its not much of a computer) had a bunch of clues to a murder mystery and it gave you clues depending on what you asked, so you could try to figure it out.  The part I liked best about it was it could be played solo.  And as an only child, that was a rare thing for me to enjoy.

This is called Dallas: A Game Of The Ewing Family.  I saw this in a store probably in 1980 or 81, when Dallas the TV show was all the rage.  And DAMN I had to have it.  Unfortunately, it was more of a role playing type game where players took on the role of different characters and had to interact with one another to achieve goals.   SO I never really actually played the game, it was a disappointment in that way.  But it was a fun board and bunch of lil punny named businesses and such, so that was nice.
