Look of love, I've come undone (Part 4)....

Viteameatavega-Memories

So let's travel back 71 years to May 30, 1955 and the I Love Lucy episode which aired that date:

The Tour

The Ricardos and The Mertzes are in California for Ricky's movie.  Lucy and Ethel take a tour of Hollywood stars' homes.  They get off at the home of Richard Widmark and Lucy wants to get a grapefruit from his backyard.  She gets over the wall, can't get back and gets chased inside by a guard dog.  And there, in his trophy room, Widmark brings Ricky in, after lunch, to see some of the trophies, before she's caught.

This episode does make me laugh.  There's scenes on the bus which are funny, watching Lucy at the wall is hilarious, and seeing her in the trophy room is classic too.  And there's a cute pupper in it as well.   What's NOT to like?

Look of love, I've come undone (Part 3)....

Viteameatavega-Memories

On this date in 1955, I Love Lucy aired the episode entitled, simply, "Harpo Marx".

The Ricardos and the Mertzs are in Hollywood for an extended stay while Ricky films his movie, "Don Juan".   Lucy's been writing home telling her friends about ALL the celebrities she's been meeting and spending time with.  One of the friends just happens to be in the area and wants to visit and meet some of those celebrities.  This friend just happens to have very poor eyesight and Lucy and Ethel hide her glasses from here.  The Lucy keeps putting on costumes and dressing up as various celebrities and meeting her friend.   It just so happens that when Lucy is dressed up as Harpo Marx, the REAL Harpo shows up!  Lucy and he ended up doing a synchronized, symmetrical mirror routine.

I'm not a huge fan of some of the Lucy Meets Celebrity X shows, some are pretty contrived and don't really work.  This one however does work.  It's quite funny.

Look of love, now I've come undone (Part 2)....

 Viteameatavega-Memories

On this date in 1957, the following episode aired: The Housewarming.

So the Ricards have moved to Connecticut, the Mertzes have joined them.   Their next door neighbors are the Ramseys.  Lucy and Betty Ramsey get along famously, leaving Ethel feeling a bit jealous.  Then, they all realize Betty is from Albuquerque New Mexico, which is also Ethel's hometown.  And they then become extra chummy leaving Lucy feel left out.

It's a typical Lucy episode plot.  And it's got some funny lines in it, but really, it's not that great of a show all in all.

Look of love, now I've come undone (Part 1)....

Vitameatavega-Memories

As an aficionado of "I Love Lucy", I thought I'd check and see, periodically, what episodes were airing at certain times.

So let's go back 70 years to February 16th, 1957.

"Lucy Gets A Paris Gown"

The Ricardos and the Mertzs are in the midst of their European tour.  At a sidewalk cafe, they see a bunch of ladies walk by wearing a bunch of Paris "fashions" and despite them looking ridiculous, the girls love them and want the fellas to buy them some.  Which of course, since they're so expensive, they refuse to do.  But they DO have "gowns" made...out of burlap and a trash can and a horse feeding bag.  And the girls where them to the cafe, loving them.  They get a lot of looks.  And then the fellas tell then what they're actually made of, and Lucy and Ethel slink off in embarrassment.  The final part of the episode when they're back in the cafe later and the fashion designer walks by with more models...dressed in his renditions of the same gowns the girls were wearing!

Not a stellar episode, but a funny one.  I'd rate it a B+ perhaps.
