Ghost Rider

Roberto "Robbie" Reyes was a mechanic in a gang infested region of Los Angeles.  He 'borrowed' a car from work to enter in a race and while driving it, he was gunned down by gang members.  He was revived by a spirit who told him he, the spirit, had been killed by gang members too, and he offered to help Robbie bring justice to them.  Robbie agreed.  He was actually the fifth person to go by the name Ghost Rider.

The spirit possessed the car and would, as needed, possess Robbie too.  He granted all kinds of power to Robbie, including magical hellfire, toughness, strength, enhanced senses, among others.  Robbie, and his car, have traveled Los Angeles handling gang members, as needed.

On this date, in 1854 in Dublin, Ireland, Oscar Wilde was born.

Oscar Wilde was a poet, playwright and bon vivant known for his wit and flamboyant style and personality.    In addition to his numerous poems he wrote several stage plays, including Salome and The Importance Of Being Earnest and also wrote novels like The Picture Of Dorian Gray.   Despite his success, his career was overshadowed by a criminal conviction for gross indecency (aka being a homosexual) and sentenced to imprisonment and exile.   While in jail and later exiled, he continued to write and publish his works. 

He died in 1900 from meningitis, at the age of 46.  He died famous, a gay icon and forefather and a badass.

Jose Delgado was a teacher in "Suicide Slum" of Metropolis.  He participated in boxing and martial arts while in college and continued after gradation.  Fearing for his students being menaced by gang members, Jose donned a costume and used his physical skills to take on the gangs to keep his students safe.

On this date, 75 years ago, in 1951, the greatest sitcom of all time was "born": I Love Lucy!

That night, 75 years ago, was the first look the world got Lucy, Fred, Ethel, and Ricky.   And from that beginning, we got the chocolate conveyer belt, Vitameatavegimin, grape crushing in a vat, the loaf of bread the length of the kitchen, getting locked in a freezer, the tango dance with several dozen eggs in a shirt, stealing John Wayne's footprints, stopping the train three times, missing the boat to Europe and having to be helicoptered onto it, and of course, the birth of Little Ricky. 

The 7 seasons of this shows made the foundation, set the ground rules, and still stands head and shoulders above all the sitcoms that have come since. 

I Love Lucy...badass after all these years!

Bonita Juarez is a Mexican-American woman born outside Albuquerque, NM.  She was walking through the deserts outside her town when she stumbled upon a radioactive meteor fragment and was doused in it's radiation, which altered her DNA and gave her the power to generate fire and fly. 

Being a devout Catholic and a social worker, she thought the powers were a gift from God, so she donned a costume and proceeded to go 'God's work', fighting crime and protecting the weak. 

She initially teamed up with the Rangers a group of Southwestern heroes who didn't really work together too often.  It was later she worked beside and later joined the West Coast Avengers.   Since she's left the team and rejoined several times.
