On this date, in 1987 in Argentina, Lionel Messi was born.

I don't know a whole about him, or any soccer palyers for that matter, but I know he's played for the Argentian team winning both World Cups and Olympic medals, and is one of the best players in the sport.

And as the World Cup is going on right now, it seemed appropriate to put him here today.

This pic and text was sent to my mother and me by my cousin. This high chair is the one mom and dad for me when I was baby. Then mom just stored it up in the attic. When my cousin had her son 10 years ago, mom gave her the high chair to use, and when he outgrew it my cousin kept it in her attic. Then my cousin gave it to a friend of hers, who's daughter apparently loved it.

The same high chair (which was able to be modified as the child grew to be able to allow the kids to sit in it and play...which I apparently did, and my cousin's son did as well) was used for 50 years, and STILL in use a few years ago when this pic was taken.

Things were built to last back then!

On this date, in 1912, in London England, Alan Turing was born.

Alan Turing was a mathematician, scientist, logician, cryptanalyst and philospher. During World War II, he played a crucial role in dechiper the Germans codes which greatly benefited the Allies. After the war, he made groundbreaking contribuations to the field of theoretical computer science through the concepts of algorythims and computation he made for his Tuning Machine. Using what he learned there, he helped design the Automatic Computing Engine which was used to help create the Manchester computers. He is widely considered to be father fo Theoretical Computer Science.

It is apporpriate that we discuss him now, because Alan Turing was gay. In 1952, he was convicted of homosexual acts and, as an alternative to prison, was given what was essentially chemical castration. In 1954, at the age of 41 he died of cyanide poisoning, widely considered to be suicide.

In 2009, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown made on official public apology for "the appalling way Turing was treated". In 2013, Queen Elizabeth II granted him a pardon. And in 2017, The Alan Turing Law retroactively pardoned all men convicted in the past of homosexual acts.

Despite all the did to defeat the Nazis, and all he contributed to the advent of computers, he was treated the same offensive and obscene way all gays were back then. And that's why people like him of the past, and what happened to him, needs to be known today.

My father, my mother's mother, and one of my mother's brothers were all alive. They've all since passed.

As, as mentioned above, Polt's Palace was created.
