Yep, as a lil prepubescent Polt, I saved up my allowance and actually ordered two things from an ad like this. I got the X-Ray Specs (similar, I think, to the Secret Spy Scope right above the order form) and machine to convert paper into money! Don't now how much they each cost back then, but I assure you, they were NOT worth what I paid. Nor were they anything like what I thought they'd be.
yep, I learned early about PT Barnum's saying, "A sucker born every minute."
