I would not sell my collection, for if I did, I would cry (Part 47)...

Today In The History Of Polt's Comic Book Collection

Today we 're going back 45 years to November 1974 and Marvel's Giant Size Avengers #2.

At this point in time, once a year, on popular titles, Marvel would release a Giant Size issue, with more pages/story.    This one was the completion of a multi-story arc.

Now, bear with me on this one: The Avengers went back in time to Egypt, where they discovered, their old Egyptian enemy Rama Tut, their time traveling enemy from the future, Kang, AND their inter-dimensional enemies Immortus, were ALL the same person, just at different time in his life.

They also discovered a race of asparagus like plant people called the Koati, and one of them has possessed the body of the recently dead Avenger's member The Swordsman.  Immortus reveals that Avengers member Mantis is actually the Celestial Madonna....although what that exactly is is never actually explained.

Mantis and the Koati/Swordman decide they're in love and they want to marry.  The mutant Scarlet Witch and the android Vision decide they also want to marry.  And so Immortus, since they'll all in the realm he controls, says he has the authority to marry them and does.  And then Mantis and the Koati/Swordsman corpse drift off into space to do whatever it is a Celestial Madonna does.

Oh, but that's not all.  The issue also has the bald telepath Moondragon, Dr. Strange's archenemy Dormammu, aged witch Agatha Harkness, and even Ultron!

Yeah, very weird...but hey, it was the mid-70s.....and they had real good drugs back then I'm told.
