Some Inaugural Day thoughts...
I had a bottle of Asti I bought in Nov 2016 to open when Hillary got her 270th Electoral Vote. When that didn't happen, I put it in my fridge and kept it there for the day the orange shitgibbon would leave, be it through death, resignation, impeachment, voted out or, God Forbid, serving two terms and not being eligible anymore.
This morning, I cracked that baby open. Had a sip of it from my Biden/Harris 2020 glass (a Christmas gift from the ParisPekings) when he took the oath of office. And then downed the entire glass at noon, when the power of the office officially transferred. Over the next 45 minutes I drank the entire bottle. I drank it slowly (other than the quick slamming of it at noon) and I had lunch while drinking it too, so I never really got drunk or tripsy. But damn it tasted good...almost as good as tRumpanzee tears....although not quite as good as that.
I may or may not have teared up a few times.
Like when Officer Eugene Goodman, who distracted the insurgents two weeks again and kept them from the open Senate doors (and who's now been promoted to Acting Deputy Sergeant At Arms of The Senate...and who deserves at least one medal for his actions) was applauded when he entered escorted the Vice President Elect.
Like when that lady got up to say to Pledge Of Alliegance...and she signed it as well.
Like when Kamala Harris was, with her right hand held up and her left on a Bible, being sworn in as Vice President (the historical awesomeness of it...first woman, first African American, first of Asian descent).
Like when I was signing along with Garth Brooks of all people to Amazing Grace (that song and Old Rugged Cross always make me tear up for some reason).
I applauded several times, alone in my living room. I don't recall those times.
I noted the differences in clothing between the Administrations: Melania in all funereal black, compared with the Vice President, and former First Ladies Michelle and Hillary all in shades of purple (which I've been told they wore as a sign of unity, as purple blends red and blue).
Also, I compared the hair styles of Michelle Obama today and four years ago.
Today:
Long, flowing, wavy, classy, beautiful.
And then, four years ago:
Just pulled back into a bun. Yep, she knew what was coming.
And then I just now, at 4:50 pm saw the Vice President swear in her successor Senator Padilla, as well as Georgia Senators Ossoff and Warnock. Thank God. Now that we've got the Senate (by the slimmest of margins but still) perhaps some work there can get done.
Anyway, it's been a LOOOOOOONG four years. I am SO glad and relieved its over.
God Bless America, indeed.
POLT
