Night arrives with her purple legion (Part 19)....

 Legion Lore

Element Lad

Jan Arrah was born on the planet Trom and like all Trommites, he has the ability to change one element into another (ie Oxygen in Lead, Carbon into Plutonium, Mercury into Nitrogen, etc).  When he was teenager, all Trommites (and they were a smallish population and didn't travel off planet much) were slaughtered, all but Jan.  Jan came to the Legion and it's been his only home and family since.

He was Deputy Leader of the team for a few terms and served two terms at Leader himself.   He also had a relationship with the laison from the Science Police Shvaughn Erin (though it was revealed years later that Shvaughn was actually born Sean, a male and took the drug ProFem to become female in order to have a relationship with Element Lad.  The story was kinda awkward but at the time, the early 90s, it was revolutionary and well done for then.  Especially when Jan didn't reject her and continued to date her even after she lost her supply of ProFem and reverted to Sean.)

Check this out, real quick, don't know if everybody know (Part 5552).....

 Check This Out!

On this day, 45 years ago in 1981, MTV premiered.

I assume we all know the first video ever shown was "Video Killed The Radio Star" by The Buggles.  But how many of us know the next 24 videos?    I didn't.

Of these 25 songs, I only know:

1. Video Killed the Radio Star
5 We Don't Talk Anymore - Cliff Richard
6. Brass In Pockets - Pretenders
7. Take It On The Run - REO Speedwagon
14. Hold On Loosely - .38 Special
17. Keep On Loving You - REO Speedwagon
22. In The Air Tonight - Phil Collins
25. Stop Draggin My Heart Around - Stevie Nicks/Tom Petty

Others, I've heard of the artists, but not the songs (Pat Benetar, Rod Stewart, Todd Rundgren, Styx, Iron Maiden, The Cars, Robert Plant).   And yet others I've never of the song OR the artist!

And less than 45 years later, MTV and all it brought to our culture, is dead.

Superhero Anydays

Today we have a cover of Justice League Of America #184 redone by TJ Frias.

This particular issue was part of a trilogy of the annual teamup between the JLA and Earth-2's JSA and in this trilogy, they joined with the New Gods to battle Darkseid and his minions.   This cover shows, clockwise from upper right: Power Girl (JSA), Dr. Fate (JSA), Orion (New Gods), Wonder Woman (JSA), Huntress (JSA), Batman (JLA), Green Lantern (JLA), Oberon (New Gods), Mister Miracle (New Gods), Big Barda (New Gods), Firestorm (JLA), Superman (JLA) all surrounding the head of Darkseid.

Also today we have a coplayer doing one of The Flash's super-villains: Abra Kadabra.

My birthday song, my happy world (Part 336)...

 Badass Birthday

On this date, in 1962, Amazing Fantasy #1 was published, which is also the first appearance of Spider-Man!

Stan Lee and Steve Ditko creation added to the burgeoning Marvel Comic Universe in a, well....AMAZING way.   Spider-Man's been published, in at least once comic and usually several comics, in the ensuing 64 years!

He's been portrayed in movies by Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfrield and of course, the best of the bunch Tom Hollland.  He's been voiced by numerous different actors in animation.   And he was played on TV in the late-70s by Nicholas Hammond.

Despite being a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, he's also a badass!
