Badass Birthdays
Seventy one years ago, in 1954, was born Harvey Fierstein!
He's the gravely-voiced actor, screenwriter, and playwright. He's starred in Hairspray and Torch Song Trilogy on stage, and Torch Song Trilogy, Independence Day and Mrs. Doubtfire on film. He's earned four Tony Awards for performance and writing. And all this is undoubtedly noteworthy. But he's clearly a badass simply because he was an out gay man in the late 80s and early 90s. And unabashedly so. That was NOT an easy thing to do at that time.
