I had a bit of a scare the end of this week.

Thursday, before I went to bed, I took my blood sugar as I always do.  It was 234.  Not great, but considering it was two hours after I last ate, it was okay.  I took my meds, didn't eat anything else the rest of the night, and then went to bed.

Friday morning, I got up and tested it again.  It was 252! I has NEVER gone UP over night.  I tested it again right away and it was 242!  Hmm, well i thought okay, it's a quirk, whatever and went about my day.

Friday night, about 9PM, again two hours after I ate, I took it again and it was 222.  Again, not great, but I was okay with it.

Saturday morning, after not eating, I tested it and it was 234!  It went up again! What the hell???  My fear was this: one of my previous doctors had told me that if I don't get my diabetes under control, eventually my pancreas would just give up and stop working and I'd make no insulin at ALL in my body!

Satuday night, I ate about 645.  9PM I took my blood sugar, it was 173.  Much better than the last two nights.  This morning I get up, shower, dress and came downstairs and testing it.  It was 9-ish AM, 12 hours after last testing it, 15 hours after last eating, my blood sugar was 162!  It was lower yeah, but it should have been much lower than just by 11 points.

So I took my glucometer out to mom's, since we were doing lunch today.  Out there, I pricked my finger and we put some blood on both my machine and hers.    Mine said it was 269!  A rise of 100 points after only an hour and a half?  And all I had was one of those small containers of applesauce a a few drinks of my coffee (with some French Vanilla Delight in it).  But there's no way that should raise it 100 points!

Mom's gloumeter, though, said my blood sugar was 209.  Hmmmm.

So I pricked another finger and we tested both machines.  This time, mine said it was 247, mom's said 206.  Yeah, it seemed pretty clear then: my gloucometer was fucked up.  I got it and started using it back in December 2014.  I've been using it off and on every since, but in the last year or so, I've been using it every day, the last six months, roughly twice a day.

I guess it's just at the point when I need a new one.  Which, thank GOD, is the answer!  I'll just have to call the doctor tomorrow and have him call in a prescription in for a new one.  I hope, after three years, my insurance covers it.  But even if it doesn't, I definitely NEED a new one!
