I would not sell my collection, for if I did, I would cry (Part 125)....

Today In The History Of Polt's Comic Book Collection

Today we travel back 20 years to April 2006 and DC Comics' (released on their Wildstorm imprint) The American Way Vol 1, #3.

This was an 8 issue miniseries with an interesting take on Superheros.  It depicts an alternate history US in the 1960s/70s.  Superheroes have been around a bit and the main team is funded and run by the US government.  It also has several VERY racist members of that team.  The mini-series mainly deals with the government putting a new hero on the team: the New American.   His costume is a full body suit like an astronauts.  And he never takes it off.  And after a few missions with the team, the helmet is ripped off by a villain and it's revealed, at the end of this issue, that he's an African-American.

Oh the HATE and vitriol than ensues in subsequent issue, both from the public, other government official AND several of the teammates.

It's quite a commentary on race relations in the US through the spectrum of superheroes.  The entire series is very well written and drawn.
