Fetching Faces
This is the very fetching face of Frank Velez, the newest mayor of Belleville NJ. The old mayor, a Democrat, endorsed the Republican candidate for governor (who lost last year) over the Democratic candidate (who obviously won). Then, just two weeks ago, there was a 12 alarm fire in Belleville and the mayor apparently botched the response to it.
Frank Velez, a 24 year old Democrat who still lives at home, was an At Large member of the local school board for the last 6 years. The old mayor liked to grab headlines and was a publicity hound, so Velez filed to run against him...resulting in much scoffing by the old mayor.
However, Frank Velez defeaterd him, and did so by 20 points!!! The old mayor was in office for 8 years and it sounded like he was arrogant enough to just assume it was his. Turns out the citizens of Belleville decided otherwise.
I like to think perhaps the fetching-ness of the one candidate had something to do with it too.
