So today is the DC Gay Pride Parade. And I'm not there.
The first one I ever went to was in 1997. And, in those 20 years, this is only the second one I've missed. The first time was to be in the ParisPeking wedding (but I've already said enough about that, I'm sure), and then the second one will be right now.
Tomorrow, in DC, there's a HUGE Gay Rights protest march. They're all going protesting against the homophobic attitudes of the current government. And there will, presumably, be a LOT of people there, if the women's march in January is any indication. And those people coming for the protest surely will be coming for the entire weekend. So since they're in DC already, why not just go an enjoy the Parade?
And frankly, even without all those people, the crowds at the Parade were large enough for me already. And StratCat decided she wasn't going for the same reason. And Derick as well. However, StratCat's cousin, CC and her son Josh are both down there for the weekend. God bless their souls, and keep them safe.
So anyway, the point is, I'm missing the Parade for only the second time in two decades. Hopefully over the next two decades, I only miss two more (although I'm not sure I want to be trudging down there for all that when I'm in my late 60s....but who knows?)
