DC had Sgt Rock and Easy Company
Marvel had Sgt Fury and The Howling Commandos
That Sgt Rock cover was by the iconic Joe Kubert, the bottom pic by the even more iconic Jack Kirby.
And yes, Sgt Fury IS Nick Fury, he later with an eyepatch and in charge of SHIELD.
