My birthday song, my happy world (Part 36)...

 Badass Birthday

Today 108 years ago in 1917, Katharine Graham was born.

Who the hell is she, and why is she a badass, some of you might be asking.   Well she was the first female publisher of a major American newspaper in the 20th century, namely The Washington Post.  She helmed that famed bastion of journalism for three decades.  And her autobiography, in 1998, earned her the Pulitizer Prize.  But the MAJOR reason she's a badass is, she lead The Post during the Watergate scandal.  Other publishers with less balls than her might have decided to have her editor, Ben Bradlee, quash an investigative story into possible Presidential misdeeds and corruption by two young reporters.  But she didn't.   But instead, she didn't stop them and she published all their stories.  And Nixon resigned as a result.   She more balls than damn near of her male counterparts...and certainly TONS more than media leaders today.

She died in 2001 at the age of 84.
