Badass Birthday
Today, 117 years ago in 1908, was born Thurgood Marshall.
He was a groundbreaking attorney and Supreme Court Justice (the first African-American appointed to the court) who always fought for Civil Rights and desegregation. Truly a progressive liberal in his rulings.
On a more personal note, when I was in college, in the fall of 1990, I was taking a class on Constitutional Law. The professor took a group of us down to DC to the Supreme Court, and got to sit in on a hearing. I have no recollection of what the case was about, but I vividly remember feeling like I was in the presence of greatness: Harry Blackmun, Sandra Day OConner, John Paul Stevens, and Thurgood Marshall.
