Badass Birthday
Today, 100 years ago, in Harlem was born Sammy Davis Jr.
Singer, actor, comedian, dancer, he was a Renaissance Man of entertainment. And a groundbreaker too. In the Segregation-era racist America he was married a white woman, and STILL stayed famous. He was the only African-American member of the Brat Pack. He has success on Broadway, in movies like "Ocean's Eleven" and in songs like "The Candy Man." He did all this even after losing an eye in a car accident. And as if being a Black man in mid-century America married to white woman wasn't challenging enough, he later converted to Judism.
A complete and total badass!
