Today In The History Of Polt's Comic Book Collection
Today we travel back to June of 1982, and the first ever graphic novel, Marvel's The Death Of Captain Marvel.
This was the first one ever made: a longer story, all in one issue, printed on better, shinier paper, in a larger format. And since it was successful, both comic book companies started producing more.
Anyway, the story itself is a damn good one. Written and drawn by Jim Starlin, it tells the tales of Kree soldier and Avengers longtime ally, Captain Marvel. And in the end, despite all the attempts of all of Marvel's greatest minds and heroes, he does indeed die.
Of cancer. Not a supervillain, not a nefarious trap, just a human deadly disease.
It really is a great piece of work.
