On this date, in 1945, in Myanmar, Aung San Suu Kyi was born.
Aung San Suu Kyi is a Burmese politician, diplomat and author. She won the Nobel Peace Prize. She was a leader of a political party in Myanmar and when she was the opposition party leader, she was arrested by the dictator who took over in a coup, charged and she was sentenced to house arrest for several years. The United Nations, most European countries and the USA all condemned all the sentences and arrests. Despite all this, she has remained a voice for democracy and freedom in Myanmar.
