Firstly, on Friday night, Michelle, her mother Betty, and our friend Celeste and I all went to see The Wizard Of Oz on stage at The Maryland Theater. First though the four of us went to eat at Bulls & Bears, mainly because it was just right across the street from the theater.
The play was by a local troup and the Scarecrow was played by one of my friends/fuckbuddies Dan. And it had a bunch of kids playing munchkins and the witch's guards and things from a local magnet school for the arts. Anyway, it was rather entertaining, even if the sound system was a little screwed up. it was way to loud. And those kids, when they munchkins screamed at the witch, well it was like icepicks in my ears. Still, and fun and entertaining time. We all enjoyed the food, play, and the conversation with friends.
The men's room at Bulls & Bears! Pretty fancy-shmancy for the area I live in!
Our Supper: I was being good and had the salad, Celeste had some kind of chicken dish, Betty had some steak and Michelle had some sorta of vegetarian thing.
The four of us, in the lobby of the theater, prior to being seated. Clockwise is me, Betty, Celeste and Michelle.
And then seated in the theater, left to right: Michelle, Celeste, Betty and me.
We got on the Metro (finally) but after three stops, there was construction on the Red Line, for four stops. So we had to leave the Metro, and get on the buses they provided. This took much longer, obviously, than did the Metro. But once we got back on the Metro everything progressed accordingly into DC.
After the play, it was torrential downpouring! We were out of the rain in the Metro though. Course, as it was already nearly 11PM, they were running trains more sporadically than usual. And the four station shut down was still in effect. So we had to get back on the buses. And unlike going down, there was no express bus, so we had to stop at every stop until we got to the one we wanted.
We got back on the Metro, rode three stops and exited. We got out of the parking garage, and I had no idea how to get onto thehighway to get us home. And it was STILL torrentially raining, so driving was a lot of fun. When we finally got back on the highway, things were little better, as for whatever reason, there was a ton more traffic than I expected. And with the rain the way it was I could barely see anything. The driving was treacherous....unlike a little before Frederick when it stopped. When we got closer to home, the roads were dry and it hadnt even rained. And a ride home that should have taken an hour and a half, took three and a half hours!
But enough about travel problems.
When we got to DC, we had a reservation The District Commons. It was the third time Michelle and I had eaten there, but both the prior times had been with VUBOQ (who was out of the country at this time). But the food was delicious as always.
The Kennedy Center was fun, as always. The play was VERY entertaining, if a bit sad and depressing at the end (although considering the subject matter, it would have to be, wouldn't it?) There were lots of laughs during the play. And I knew more of the songs than I thought I'd know.
So anyway, other than travel, THIS was a great day also. And the entire weekend of theater was one I quite enjoyed!
Michelle and Lynn at the Rockville station.
And fancy-shmancy bathroom, this one at District Commons.
The tablet setting at District Commons.
Nana Sue Meatloaf, Mac & Cheese and green beans and ham!
The Hall Of Nations in the Kennedy Center.
Lynn, Michelle and I on the patio at the Kennedy, fountain in the background.
From the patio, that is Virginia across the Potomac River.
The best shot I could get of the inside of the theater. No pictures allowed, even before the performance.
And a nearly deserted Metro Center, at about 10:45 pm on a Saturday Night.
