Karate Kid
Like Ferro Lad, Val Armorr was born on Earth. Also, like him he was inducted in the group of four Legionnaires none of whom had a happy ending.
Val was the son of a Japanese crime lord and an American secret agent. He was raised being trained in all forms of martial arts and came to master all of them. He also had the ability to sense weak spots in objects, be it a door, a forcefield or the side of a tank, and knew how to exploit those weak spots to damage the item.
He was a longtime member of the team, even being the Leader for one year term. He started a relationship with fellow member Princess Projectra. Eventually, they even married. Once they married they and she became the Queen of her home planet, they both resigned from the team.
Upon returning to her planet from their honeymoon, they discovered the planet had been taken over the by the Legion of Super-Villains. Member of that team Nemesis Kid (who had also been one of the four members admitted to the Legion with Ferro Lad and Karate Kid. But he was soon revealed to be a spy and a plant, betrayed the team and was expelled), took on Karate Kid in one-on-one combat.
Despite being mortally wounded by Nemesis Kid, Karate Kid left the fight and sacrificed himself to destroy a device and prevent the villains from transporting that planet to another dimension. HIs wife would avenge his death.
