Badass Birthday
On this date in 1828, in Russia, Leo Tolstoy was born.
He was called by Virginia Woolf "the greatest of all novelists", and Gary Soul Morson called War & Peace "the greatest of all novels". He was nominated for the Nobel Prize For Literature every year between 1901 and 1906 and for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1901, 1902 and 1909.
I've never read a Tolstoy novel, but even I've heard of War And Peace (1873) and Anna Karenina (1875-1877). I've always wanted to read War And Peace, but at over 1200 pages (more than even Steven King's The Stand extended version), it's just too daunting.
Still, though, with the accolades mentioned above, clearly he's a badass!
