I got up late in the morning and drove to Frederick, where I went to Barnes & Noble and used two coupons I had to buy some books. Afterwards, I headed on down to the closest DC Metro stop.
For about ten years, I've known Ryan (now Doctor Ryan) With A Cupcake. I knew him from my online group of friends the Puntabupeeps. But as he lived in San Diego, I never met him. Well this weekend, he's in DC for a convention. And when he told me this, we made arrangements for me to go down and visit him.
I took the Metro to the exit where the Convention Center is. I went inside and texted him and tried to find him, but he had already gone down into the Metro station. So I told him I'd go and meet him there. And as I got on the escalator to go down, I saw him on the escalator coming up! So I told him to wait there and I'd come back up, which I did. And after a few words of greeting, he suggested, since it wasn't too cold and not windy, to go visit the National Zoo.
We got back on the Metro and rode it to the correct stop. We still had to walk a few blocks to get to the zoo, and then we spent, I believe three hours, walking through the zoo! We covered the vast majority of it. And MAN was it tiring.
We walked back towards the Metro stop. I didn't know places to eat around there, but one stop South was DuPont Circle, and I knew my way around there quite well. So we decided just to walk the distance right down Connecticut Avenue to DuPont.
Once we got in that area, Ryan decided he'd like to eat a Chinese Place there whose menu we we looking at. So we did. Pretty good food, actually. And of course great conversation!
Following this, even though it was only like 630, I decided I was ready to return home. So we walked to the Metro stop at DuPont Circle and there parted: I was going north, he was going south.
It was a fun time! Ryan's a fun guy. And despite being chilly, it was a fine Autumn day to walk around DC. And we saw red pandas, panda bears, elephants, all kinds of fish, and other animals but I only remembered to get a photo of the Bison.(although a lot of the exhibits were closed due to the weather)
I look forward to hanging with Ryan again, should he get this way again, or if I ever get to Southern California. And with this meeting, I've met all the Puntabupeeps, except for Mush and Mel!
Anyway, I DID take a few pics (but not many, cause I was having so much fun talking, I didn't think of taking many).
A pic from the Metro ride down.
Had to wait while I changed trains, so why not take a selfie?
The entrance to the National Zoo!
The lone photo from IN the Zoo., bison. (and damn, they smelled!)
Walking between the two Metro stops, we crossed this bridge!
Right before getting on the Metro, I remembered to take a photo of us!
And chillin on the Metro ride home. My back was pretty tight on this ride home. And is so still this morning, but my thighs are tight as well. And my neck hurts! I guess since I'm almost 50, I just can't walk around like I used to when I was younger.
