Badass Birthday
On this day, back in 1933, in Ohio, Tim Conway was born.
Saturday nights, when I was a kid in the 70s, mom and I were glued to the TV at 10pm for the Carol Burnett show. Tim Conway was only a guest for the first years of her show, but from when I was watching the show, he was a regular. And DAMN was he funny.
He created some hilarious characters: Mr. Tudball, World's Oldest Man, and Ed's assistant at the hardware store, the hard of hearing Mickey. He was a master at ad-libbing, just throwing shit out there and cracking the others up, especially Harvey Korman. Also, his timing was impeccable...he knew just how long to wait after saying something before moving on to the next line.
He had his own show afterwards, but I don't really remember it, so it must not have been too good. And then were was his character Dorf, who while funny was always best in small doses. He grew irritating after a while.
Over the course of his long and varied career he won a Golden Globe, a TVLand award and 5 Emmys.
He passed in 2019 at the age of 85.
He was such a badass.
