Feelin' like i got broken glass in my underwear...

So today, Craiggers had a post about how he assumes a guy is gay if (fill in the blank), and it started out being about funny stereotypes and devolved into a discussion about men's underwear (which really isn't that unusual on Puntabulous at all), and it got me thinking: I should do an underwear post.

There were comments from guys who paid up to $40 for a pair of underwear (I'm looking at you Dave S.) that is made of less fabric than the sock I am now wearing on my right foot! And that's all well and good, to each their own. I've paid $30 for a comic book back in the early 80's, and I'm certain Dave S., among others, wouldn't pay a tenth of that for any comic book (although that comic can now seel for upward of $800, and I doubt Dave S.'s underwear would sell anywhere near that...although with some of the freaks out there, who knows. But I digress...) and that's all okay too. It's just since my underwear comes three for like $8 bucks, its pretty likely in the last year I've spent just as much as he on underwear and have 15 pairs to show for it. But to each their own.

Primarily, I have boxers. I've got some older boxerbriefs I've had for a while, but no briefs. As I was growing up, probably until college, when I needed underwear, mom bought me some (she was doing the laundry before then, and when a pair got worn out and ratty, she threw it out, and then bought new to replace it), and she always got tighty-whities. Fruit Of The Loom. At that point, I didn't know I had other options. I saw guys in movies taking off their pants and wearing light blue boxers-ish things, but that was in the movies, that's not something I'd wear!

In fact, as I recall from lockerrooms in high school and middle school, the vast majority of young men in the early and mid 80's worn tighty-whites. I vividly remember when a guy named Mike in 9th grade started wearing boxers: just solid colors, no plaid, or funny stuff on them or anything. Caused quite a stir in the lockerroom cause it was different.

And I saw a movie right around that same time about a bunch of kids kidnapped in Australia and held in a bus buried underground (was supposed to be based on a true story). At any rate, the kids escaped and ended up going into some caves where they had to swim through some water (I don't remember why, just bear with me) and they all disrobed to thier underwear to do it, and one kid, the oldest kid, about 16 or so, was wearing just tight, red bikini briefs. I remember that vividly as well cause I never thought guys would wear bikinis under regular clothes and because...well, I revisited that image frequently over the next several weeks when I had "alone time".

I honestly don't remember when I started buying boxers. But I remember when I did, i just got rid of all my briefs (perhaps mom still has some dustrags around the house somewhere that used to gird my loins....but I really hope not) and wore nothing but them. And have been so ever since.

Something else I realized recently, I coordinate my undies with my shirt. If I wearing a white shirt that day, i pull out white undies; blue shirt, blue undies; green shirt, green undies. The only exception is that one orange shirt I have...I don't have any orange undies, so I just go with black then.

I'm not really sure WHY I coordinate them like that, I just do. Kinda like making sure my belt color matches my work shoes (black or brown) and that I'm never wearing white socks with dress shoes. Its just something I do, almost unconsciously.

However, unconscious or not, I'm fairly certain I'll never pay more than $10 for a single pair of underwear. Unless maybe it's a pair of Dave S.'s.

Ya know, I do hafta wonder why he's climbing down a ladder while wearing a wrestling singlet. Could they been having the match on the roof? Or is that perhaps all he has to wear, as his other clothes are in the laundry. And then, I simply look at him again, and don't care why in the slightest.

Under our system, George W. Bush's disputed 537 vote margin in Florida was deemed more important than Al Gore's half-million ballot advantage nationwide.

He's not making plans 'cos now they understand...

Tonight, I got a call from T (this T, not be confused with this T, or EMT Tim). We talked for maybe ten minutes. He asked what I was doing this weekend, and when I said nothing, he asked if I wanted to hang out. Hell YEAH! I mentioned watching a movie, which seemed to catch him by surprise, like he wasn't expecting it. I said I had gotten a bunch of new movies since I last saw him, and he said, excitedly, "Yeah, what?" And I mentioned the titles of a few gay themed movies I have. He seemed a bit dejected. As I think back on it, I think maybe he was thinking new pornos that I bought.

I'm thinking maybe when he said "hang out" he meant "hookup". Which is absolutely fine with me. I mean, you can never have too much sex with 21 year olds. But I'm not positive of this, so that's why I was kinda being...coy, mentioning regular movies and stuff. Just in case I'm misreading this. But I don't think I am.

I'm trying not to get too excited about this, because T has been notoriously unreliable in coming over when he says he will. Even though he initiated the contact this time, I'll just wait to see if we actually do get together Saturday night. But if we do, oh............

Ooh, there's frost on memorial day, ohh...

Okay, so these are kinda late, but whatever. These are some of the photos I took during Memorial Day.

This is a little guy in front of me waiting for the parade to begin. A redheaded Superman fan....it's like it's my own personal Mini-Me!

My newly 4 year old cousin Cam with his pappy. Cam's the one making the face.

Balloons!!! (I hate 'em myself, but the kids sure loved 'em)

Mom combing Angel and making sure she's all prettified before the guests arrived.

Cam playing in mom's fountain.

Cam riding mom's mower. Driving sounds not included with the photo, but trust me, he was making them.

Most of the family...

Some of the rest of the family.

Mom and I cam up with this idea: we had the kids lay on the sidewalk and then we drew lines around them. Then we let them decorate the drawings with sidewalk chalk.

Even Aunt Bev (aka Mama Polt) got into the act, drawing Javey when he didn't want to lay down on the sidewalk.

I walked some of the kids down to the park so they could play on the equipment there. This is them walking back. I was the caboose so I could keep an eye on all of them at once.

Tereek grabbed my camera, and with some help from me, took this photo himself.

I didn't realize it at the time, but when they took this photo, they got four generations in one photo: my grandmother, my mother, me, my cousin Tereek.

Parade, hot dogs and burgers, family, a bit of a sunburn...what more could you ask for on a Memorial Day?

An utterance, information, don't mince words

TMI Tuesdays
1. What was the last movie you saw on a date? Wow, a date huh? I'm not terribly familiar with the concept, but I'll do my best. Batman:The Dark Knight., I guess. I went to see it with a group of friends, but Don went with us, and we sat together, and held hands a bit, so I guess that’s a date.
2. What was the last meal you had on a date? Geez, I got no idea. I don’t really date. Let’s say Ed and I spending time together that one night in Toronto was a date. We snacked at McDonald’s after the walk, so my last date meal woulda been McNuggets. I’m a cheap date, eh? Course, I imagine that’s not a secret.
3. When was the last time you made out in the car on a date? More? Don and I made out a bit in the car after the movie on the way to Fridays. The more part, well that would be back when I was dating Freddie, back in 2006 sometime. We didn’t “go all the way” but it was more than just making out.
4. Using a dating websites do you think you are more likely to find a "hook up" or a relationship? Oh a hook up. I’ve found MANY a hook up. Course, I’ve not been on a ‘dating’ site per se. The site I go to are more like hookup sites…so that may explain things.
5. Do you have any special "first" date rituals? Flowers, certain restaurant, ect. I try to make sure I have breath mints, several topics or anecdotes ready in case awkward silences occur, and I make sure I have clean, not unflattering underwear…one never knows…..
BONUS QUESTION: Do you believe in sex on the first date? Can a relationship bloom if you have sex on the first date? I believe in sex on any number date. Hell, I believe in sex without any date at all! I think a relationship COULD bloom under those circumstances, but you’d have to have more in common than just the sex.

The house that built a home...

Well I've come to a decision, and frankly, it scares the shit out of me.

I've decided I'm going to buy a house.

My rent will be over $500 a month before the end of the year, and if I can find someplace where the mortgage is less than $700 a month, I should be able to make it. The first few years are gonna be tough, but presumably, my income will increase year after year, and with a set mortgage, that payment will not, as opposed to rent, which will most likely increase year after year as well.

I don't imagine the prices are EVER going to be any better than they are now. And I know credit is tight, but I've got the best credit rating I can possibly have (or so they told me when I got my last car loan 6 years ago). And I'm told there like a $6000 credit for first time homebuyers or some such stuff this year, which should help when tax time comes.

I was looking on the Internet around town here, and there are several at or under $100,000 that I could possibly handle. I mean they're small, but I don't need a lot, and they don't have much land, which is good, cause I don't want a big yard, I'm allergic to freshly mown grass, so i don't want that burden.

Things are gonna be tight the first couple years, especially since I'll need a new car somewhat soon, and that'll be an extra burden. And I'm NOT terribly responsible when it comes to upkeep, anyone that's actually seen my apartment can attest to that. And finacially, I'm rather a moron, I can't balance my checkbook to save my life. And those are definate concerns of mine.

But in the end, I just don't see how I can NOT do it now. I could wait and try to save up some more, but I think the prices are gonna graduall increase as well, and I think if I put it off for a 'better time' well, that 'better time' will never come.

My first step is go to the Credit Union and talk to them and see how much I can borrow and that'll give me an idea of the price range I can look in. And then, I can start looking. If I want out of my lease, I'm supposed to let the landlord know by August 1st, so I can be out by September 1st when the lease renews. But two months...damn, that just seems an insanely short amount of time. I don't know.

I can't actually get to the Credit Union probably for two weeks, so that gives me that amount of time to talk myself out of it. Which I may do. Because I am truly frightened and scared and worried about taking such a drastic step. But, by the same token, I truly believe that if I don't do it NOW, I never will.

Cross your fingers for me.
