Badass Birthday
On this date in 1963, in Youngstorn Ohio, was born Lady Miss Kier!
Who is Lady Miss Kier, you ask? Oh, you poor unfortunate young'un. I feel sad for everything you missed in lift.
Lady Miss Kier was one of, and singer of, the trio known as Dee-Lite.
In 1990, Dee-Lite released the iconic "Groove Is In The Heart", which was nominated for several MTV music award videos. But what it did is, unknown to us at the time, mark the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 90s. Music post "GIITH" is nothing like music pre"GIITH", and never would be again. And while that's not all cause by Dee-Lite, thier song is a great demarcation line between the eras.
Dee-Lite released two further albums, which did nothing, and the band disbanded. Lady Miss Kier conitnued singing and DJing and working in fashion. She's also been an ardent gay rights advocate and ally and anti-war advocate.
But just watch this video, and tell me after doing so, that she is NOT a badass. And if you do, I'll call you a liar!
Boggles my mind and is a bit saddening to think she's 62 years old now.........
