Badass Birthday
On this date, in 1960, in Maryland, Cal Ripken JR was born.
I am not a fan of baseball, and I've hated the Baltimore Orioles passionately since I was a kid. But even *I* know who Cal Ripken is. And I have respect for him.
He had a 21 year baseball career, all of it in Baltimore, and he's known as "The Iron Man". He has 3184 hits, 431 home runs, and 1694 runs batted in. He was a 19 time All Star, two time American League MVP, and 2 time Gold Glove Award winner. He holds the record for the most consecutive games played, 2632, surpassing the previous record holder Lou Gehrig with 2130 games, and his records stood for 56 years.
That's a bunch of numbers that, even a non-baseball fan knows, are badass stats.
