Badass Birthday
On this day, in 1939, in New York, Valerie Harper was born.
Valerie Harper started her career as a dancer on Broadway. She has earned four Emmys, 2 Golden Globe nomination and Tony nomination. And all that's impressive, but she's a badass for basically one role: Rhoda Morgenstern.
Rhoda was Mary Richard's upstairs neighbor on The Mary Tyler Moore show from 1970-1977 and then as Rhoda in her spinoff series: Rhoda from 1974-1978. I watched Rhoda reruns in the early 80s all the time they were airing on a local TV station, and that show was hilarious. Three of her Emmys are for supporting actress for the MTM Show and the fourth is for lead actress in Rhoda.
Quite a badass actress in an equally badass role.
Sadly she passed away in 2019 at the age of 80.
