Someone book me a room (Part 36)...

Chapter 2, Page 5....

So this day was my last day in annual training, thank God.  I don't blame the instructors, or the material either, but it's the same stuff every freaking year.  And really, how exciting can you make "Employee's Right To Know" or "Bloodborne Pathogens" anyway?

For lunch, StratCat and another co-worker, Lil Mary, and I went to El Ranchero for a delicious lunch of Mexican food!  Great company, great food, great times!!!  And then...it was back for the afternoon training. *SIGH*

After work, though, as we had planned, I stopped by Derick's place for some bedtimesexxyfun.  Then I came home,   And yes, I watched a few more episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise.  And yes, I know this is getting to be a broken record, but it is what it is.

And then I went to bed, read some and went to sleep.

Bronze Tiger

DC Comics' Bronze Tiger first appeared in, of all things, Richard Dragon Kung Fu Fighter #1 in April-May 1975.  Ben Thompson at age 10 killed that man with a knife who was attacking his parents.  He turned to martial arts to help him with his temper and to keep from crime.  Eventually, he was hired by C.B.I (Central Bureau Of Intelligence) to infiltrate the League Of Assassins.  Following this, he worked for, and was a sometime leader of, Amanda Waller's Suicide Squad.

Bronze Tiger has no superpowers, but is a superb martial artist, having beaten many foes, including......Batman himself.

Chapter 2, Page 4...

Don't have a whole lot post about today.  First thing, I forgot to take my pills in the morning.  I normally take them at work, but since I was in training and not in my office, I didn't remember to do so.  Training was...less boring than yesterday, but still not exciting.  For lunch, I had brought a magazine and I went to Freddie's Subs ("The Best Subs In Town" is their slogan, and they are!) and had a sub, chips and soda.  And then I went back to training in the afternoon, which was, again, not as boring.

After training, I came home and spent the evening on the couch binge watching more of Star Trek: Enterprise.  And then I went to bed, read a bit, and went to sleep.  See?  Not too much at all.

However, since I had forgotten my pills, and since I had had a sub, chips, soda for lunch, and chicken salad sandwich and chips for supper, as well as a few snacks I probably shouldn't have had (well, MORE than a few actually), when I took my blood sugar reading before going to bed it was....442!  Yeah, that's very high into the NOT GOOD range.  I mean, it's explainable why it was so high, but still not at all good that it WAS so high.

Obviously, I'll have to remember to take my pills and do MUCH better on the food.

Bloodwynd

DC Comics' Bloodwynd first appeared in Justice League America #1 in April 1992.

He had a VERY confusing origin...he was at first The Martian Manhunter who was mind controlled by some magical gem called The Blood Gem.   At the time, I assumed that was it.  But it turns out some person, actually Bloodwynd, was trapped inside The Blood Gem.  After being freed from the Blood Gem, Bloodwynd became a member of the Justice League for a time.  But he voluntarily put himself on reserve duty.    He was only seen again a few times after this.

Bloodwynd is a necromancer, summoning spirits of the dead to enhance his power.  He also has somewhat unspecified mystic powers.

Chapter 2, Page 3...

This day was my first of three days in the annual training we have to go through to satisfy the regulatory agencies we deal with and meet all the standards we have to.  And frankly, it's usually as boring as the sentence I read above sounds.

This day was no different. We were doing CPR and First Aid.  All....freakin.....day..... *SIGH*

And yes, it WAS boring, but I made it through the morning.  And then for lunch StratCat and I went to The Golden Corral for the buffet.  And I ate WAY too much.  I was stuffed.  And almost feeling sick.  But I made it through the second half of the training....without falling asleep.  Somehow.

They let us go early, about 3:15 or so.  I came home, quickly.  I had it set up for a possible hookup with the same guy as I had the day before.  But that ended up not working out.  However, one of my other semi-regulars did manage to stop by and we had some bedtimesexxyfun.

After he left, I spent the evening watching more of Star Trek; Enterprise.  And I went to bed a bit early again that night, because I have training on Wednesday as well.

Someone book me a room (Part 33)...

Chapter 2, Page 2....

Today, my plan was to do nothing but laundry and spend the rest of the day on my newly fixed couch (see yesterday's page) and watch Star Trek: Enterprise episodes on Netflix.  Didn't even plan on showering.  And I DID get two loads of laundry done, although I did forget about the second load (bedsheets) and had to go retrieve them from the dryer at like 9pm or so.

At any rate, I was doing what I planed until up about 11:30 or so, when mom called.  She wanted to know if I had eaten lunch or had plans for lunch, because she wanted to go to Montezuma's.   I told her of COURSE i'd like to go eat there with her, but I'd probably not get showered, just throw some presentable clothes on.  And she said she was fine with that.

So I drove to her house and together we walked over, despite the wind and cold, because she said we needed the exercise.  Which we did.  And the food was, of course, delicious.  And I, of course, ate way too much, including WAY too many nacho chips.  She said she was going to be making roast beef sandwiches with some organization this afternoon, and she'd bring me two down.  That was fine with me too.

After lunch and returning home, I got online, onto a hookup site, and ended up having a new guy come over for a very short bedtimesexxyfun. It did little but relieve some tension...but really, that's all I wanted.

After he left, I just watched more ST:E until mom came to the door.  She had my sandwiches, but, she said, since she had helped me with the sofa, it was my turn to help her.  She had, on her chimney top, this metal...covering.  It prevented water from getting down IN the chimney but still allowed the smoke from fires to get out.  And the wind had blown it off and onto the deck roof.  She wanted me to hold the ladder for her while she got it off the roof with a rake.  I of course went along.  I carried the ladder up, while she went to get a rake.  And the roof of the deck was really no more than ten feet high, so I just climbed up the ladder about three steps, and then I could see the thing we were looking for.  She brought the rake (all surprised that I was even up ON the ladder), and gave it to me and the job was completed lickety-split.  Then she drove me back home, even though I mentioned walking because, she said, "The temperature's dropped, and the wind's picked up and it 's too cold to walk!" Which was.

I watched more ST:E until I went to bed about...9-ish.  After getting the bedsheets out of the dryer.  I went to bed early because I had training the next day and didn't want to be late to that.

Black Lightning first appearance in #1 of his own title in April 1977.  The title only lasted 11 issues.  Black Lightning was offered membership in the Justice League of America, but turned it down to say in the "streets" saying he'd do more good there.

Later, he joined a new team formed by Batman (when he left the JLA) called the Outsiders and was in that team for some time. When Lex Luthor was elected president in 2000 (don't ask), Black Lightning, in his civilian identity of Jefferson Pierce, became Secretary of Education, as Jefferson Pierce was a teacher in his civilian identity.

He was also a member of the revived Justice League.

His powers, rather obviously, were electrical control and manipulation.

Chapter 2, page 1....

I slept in and then putzed around here, reading the newspaper and my book and watching more Star Trek: Enterprise episodes.  I showered and got some McDonald's for lunch, along with taking the paper to mom.

While on the sofa, reading my book I shifted and something...cracked inside the sofa.  It had been making creaking sounds for a few months, but this one was louder...and the sofa was sagging dangerously.  I hoped to deal with it at a later date, but I was fearful I'd be sitting on it one day and something would break and then I'd be sucked down into the sofa and not be able to easily get out of it.

What to do, what to do?  Naturally, I did what anyone would do...I called mom.  I asked her to come down if she hadn't put her car away yet, and see if she could help me flip it so I could look under it.  She did.  And we did flip it.  We pulled the fabric off and looked.  There were just thin beams of wood that comprised the whole couch.  I thought they were 2X4s, but no, there were just thin beams of wood.  And there were only STAPLED!  That was the problem.  After 3.5 years of supporting my fat ass, the staples (STAPLES!  Not nails but staples!) had failed and a joint was coming apart.

So after looking at it, mom and I got out the nails and my hammer and stuff, but after looking everything over, mom decided we needed different nails.  And perhaps the drill.  So off she went back to her house to gather the stuff together.  When she returned we nailed some stuff together, but we needed to use a vise like thingee to hold two pieces of wood together while hammering.  And so...off she went again, back to her house to get the vise like thingee.  Upon her return, he used the vise like thingee and got everything nailed as well as it could be nailed.    And then I duct-taped the whole she-bang together as best as I could.  Then we flipped the sofa back and tested it and...nope, no creaking.  It was fixed.  And for quite a bit less than the price of a new couch.  And ever since then, when I sit on it, no matter where I sit on it, there's no creaking or cracking.  So we've made it better than what it has been for years.

After this, I made my to my friend Duff's house.  Duff is my oldest friend, and by that, I mean been my friend the longest.  He and I first hung out back in 1987.  I was Best Man in his first wedding in 1991.  And every year since 1995, except for one, we've been together watching the Super Bowl.

There were 8 of us there, not including the dog.  We watched the game (and despite the Seahawks loss, what an awesome game it was!), and ate.  Oh man, did we eat: two kinds of pizza, three different kinds of BBQ, two pies, lil weiners wrapped in bacon, all kinds of sodas, chips, doritos, dips, salsa, celery, and other stuff I've since forgotten.  Such a great meal, and such a great fun time.

It started snowing and sleeting and such while the game was ongoing.  I had no trouble getting home though.  And once I got home, I watched a few lil bit more Enterprise before going to bed.

Aqualand II

Aqualad was created by DC Comics for the Young Justice animated series, and then was brought into the comics themselves in 2010.  Unfortunately, he was wiped from existence when DC rebooted during the idiotic New52 crap.

Aqualad was the son of Aquaman's enemy Black Manta.  He has typical Aquaman powers: breathe and see underwater, enhanced strength , etc.  He also has the ability to manipulate water, it's shape, size, density, etc.

History is made only by the masses of the people (Part 1)...

February is Black History Month.  In honor of that, each day of the month, I'm going to be doing a post of a black super-hero!

Black Super Hero History Month!

Today, I give you:

Amazing Man!

The DC Comics's character's first appearance was July 1983.

Will Everett had competed in the 1936 Berlin Olympics, but afterwards ended up working as a janitor in a laboratory.   There was an explosion in the lab, which gave him the ability to mimic anything he touched (ie, if he touched a steal girder, his body would become steel; if he touched a brick wall, his body would become brick, etc).

He served with the Justice Society of America during World War II.  At a later date, he lost the mimicry powers but gained powers over magnetism.  In the 1950s, J. Edgar Hoover revealed his secret identity to the public, thus endangering his family.  During the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, he was active in marches and protests.  His final fate is unknown, although it IS known that his grandson inherited his mimicing abilities.
