Badass Birthdays
On this date, in 1946, in Arkansas, Bill Clinton was born.
He was Attorney General of Arkansas from 1977 to 1979 and Governor of Arkansas from 1979 to 1981, and again from 1981 to 1992. While governor, he made significant reforms to the state school system improving it.
From 1993 to 2001 he was, of course, the 42nd President Of The United States. Because of changes to the tax law, including a millionaire's tax, he shepherded through Congress and made law, without a single Republican vote, he led the nation to a balanced budget in 1999, a budget surplus in 2000, and the largest surplus in US history in 2001. Also his economic policies helped usher in the longest post-world war II economic expansion in the US.
Of course, he wasn't perfect, he had several scandals, both real and substantial and others made up or blown totally out of proportion by the Republicans. Following his time in the White House, he's become an elder stateman in the Democratic party, but he's worked with both President Bushes on various charity causes, including the Indian Ocean tsunami relief fund.
But really, he's a badass for all he did to get the budget our of the red and into a surplus...
...which sadly lasted only a year before Bush and the Republicans just gave it all away in tax cuts, most going to, of course, the richest Americans.
