Absent from political authority...
ACCORDING TO YOUR ANSWERS,
The political description that fits you best is...LIBERAL
LIBERALS usually embrace freedom of choice in personal matters, but tend to support significant government control of the economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net"to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation of business. Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations, defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles.
This IS me...and should come as no surprise to anyone. Here is where I fit on the graph:

Here's a description of the other options:
Right (Conservative)
Conservatives tend to favor economic freedom, but frequently support laws to restrict personal behavior that violates "traditionalvalues." They oppose excessive government control of business, while endorsing government action to defend morality and the traditional family structure. Conservatives usually support a strong military, oppose bureaucracy and high taxes, favor a free-market economy,
and endorse strong law enforcement.
Libertarian
Libertarians support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; onethat is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.
Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties
Statist (Big Government)
Statists want government to have a great deal of power over the economy and individual behavior. They frequently doubt whether economic liberty and individual freedom are practical options in today's world. Statists tend to distrust the free market, support high taxes and centralized planning of the economy, oppose diverse lifestyles, and question the importance of civil liberties.
Centrist
Centrists espouse a "middle ground" regarding government control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes support individual freedom of choice. Centrists pride themselves onkeeping an open mind, tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.
Take the quiz yourself, if you wanna, it's right here. And let me know if you ended up being what you thought you were.

Take me out to the ballgame...
I've been friends with Duff for about 19 years. He's got twin 9 year old sons. One of them, Sawyer, plays Little League. At the Super Bowl party, Sawyer asked me if I wanted to come watch one of his games. I told him I would and then promptly forgot about it. But while watching the Memorial Day Parade, I saw Sawyer walk by in his uniform with all his teammates, and that made me remember it. SO I called Duff, who's also one of his coaches, and found out when his games were, so tonight I went.
They lost, 16-3. Oh and it was a bad loss. I mean, just horrible. But most of the kids kept playing like they score was close. ANd Sawyer did get to score the last run of the game. I got to sit and talk with Duff's grandfather, who I got to know quite well back 19 years ago when Duff and I were inseperable. his family practically adopted me and made me one of them. And then I saw with Duff's ex-wife and her new boyfriend/husband, I don't know. Mel (the ex-wife) and I have always gotten along. She was much more accepting when i came out to them than Duff was at first. He's since come around and has no issues with it...or at least doesn't say anything about it. But Mel and I, she and I can check out guys and laugh about gay shit and stuff. Quite fun.
Anyway, despite the blow out, I had a pretty damn good time. The weather was warm, not too humid. The sun was going down, so there was shade from trees and such. The conversation was pleasant and the game, well, it was fun to root for the boys and clap when they did something good. And I had a pleasant 20 minutes walk both to and from the field. Overall, a very enjoyable night!
******************************
On a different, totally unrelated front, got a call from Poodle tonight. For those who don't know, Poodle is a friend of mine, he's 23, and I worked with him at Borders. For the last 2.5 years, he's been in Los Angeles. He called me sometime in May to say he hated his job and was quiting it, he and his boyfriend David were having problems, and he was just gonna chuck it all and come back here, and live with his grandmother. he said he's be back before the end of June. And then we could hang out again, and have fun and shit.
Well, no, not exactly. It seems he and David are back together, and have moved downtown (which means nothing to me, since I've never been to LA). he got a new job, posting listings of homes online for some Real Estate company, and he loves it! And everything is just going great for him now. Which I'm happy about.
But that IS kinda why I call him Poodle...any shiney bauble distracts him and he changes plans at the drop of a hat. (NO comments from you, miss Agnes!) nonetheless, I am happy for him.
SIGH...the life of a 23 year old gay man in LA....I can't even imagine.....
Oh and in keeping with my helpful photos, I give you the one for Scott aka Poodle:

96) I like my 'alone time' but I wish I could find a partner to share my life with nonetheless.

All the young dudes, carry the news...
Former U.S. Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina leads a list of potential Democratic presidential candidates while Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack holds fourth place, trailing Edwards by 20 points in an early test of support among likely Iowa caucus participants. A new Iowa Poll conducted for The Des Moines Register shows that Edwards, the runner-up in the Iowa Democratic caucuses two years ago and a frequent visitor to the state since then, is the choice of 30 percent of Iowans who say they are likely to take part in the January 2008 caucuses. U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York follows on Edwards' heels with 26 percent in the Iowa Poll.
Well thank God. This is good news. Don't get me wrong, I think Hillary would make an excellent president, she's certainly more intelligent than the last three or four people who occupied the office. But like everyone knows, except for perhaps 26 percent of Iowa caucus voters, she doesn't have a shot in HELL of winning the presidency. Which is a huge shame. Nonetheless, Edwards is a satisfactory candidate in my mind. I liked him better than Kerry in 2004 anyway. The only thing that concerns me about him is his lack of foreign policy experience. Course, what did Bushie havebefore 2000? A couple trips to the Saudi Arabia to kiss some shieks' ass?
-And then we have this little tidbit-
Despite saturation media coverage when it was published a month ago, Mary Cheney's book Now It's My Turn has tanked at bookstores. Published by a conservative imprint of Simon & Schuster, the memoir has sold fewer than 6,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen Bookscan.
The book's sales have declined in each of the four weeks since its release, to only 574 copies sold for the week ending June 3. That's 77% fewer than its first-week sales of 2,445.
At this rate, it will be virtually impossible for Simon & Schuster to recoup the reported $1 million advance it paid Cheney for the book, which describes her life as the gay daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney.
A million bucks for a book by her? What the HELL were they thinking? Bushie and Dick's constituency isn't going to be interested in the book, she's a lesbian! Right Wing Conservative Christian Radical Republicans want them all to go away and disappear, not write books. And the gay community wants nothing to do with a self-loathing, traitorous hypocrite like her. Who exactly, outside of her family and friends, did they think was gonna read about her life? More importantly, who did they think would really care?

Tone Deaf Tuesdays!
This week, I'm taking us back to 1995, the spring. A new gay bar opened in a neighboring town, called Headquarters. I wanted to go, and I talked my straight friend Amy into going along. (No, this is not the same Amie that made me my Pride necklace) As we were driving there, this new song came on the radio that I loved, and that she had never heard before. We turned it up and attempted to sing along. It was "Come Out And Play" by the Offspring.

Ever since, whenever I hear this song, I think of us, driving to Headquarters (I can even picture right now the exact stretch of road where we heard it and laughed along). And we had a fun time that night. One of many fun nights she and i had together, and the first of many fun nights i had at Headquarters!

Caught up in the corporate undertow...
He scowled and waved his hand dismissively and asked me what he had come to ask me. And I let it all go then. But later in the day, a bit before it was time to leave, he came back my office again and sat himself down with a heavy sigh. Before he said anything, I asked again, what happened. He sighed again, with a sly smile and told me the story.
He was at the beach, and was in the ocean, body surfing...or attempting to. (he's about 58, and has had a hip replaced) He said there was a wave that he thought he could catch and ride in. But he misjudged it and it crashed down over him, smashing him first into the bottom and the sending him tumbling, as he put it 'ass over ankles'. he did several somersualts and was washed in to where the tide met the sand. He said he put his head up and saw several lifeguards running towards him, shouting at him to stay still.
It was only then that he mentioned that the water was quite cold that day, and he needed something to compensate, SO, before going onto the beach, he had had a few marguritas. I asked how many a few were, and he said, "Oh only two. Or maybe three. No probably four. Of the BIG ones" and indicated with his fingers a glass about a 10 inches high or so. And then he added that, "I wasn't drunk, just....warm. And that's all I wanted."
SO anyway, the lifeguards got there and held his head still and was telling him not to move and stuff. He said he could tell he wasn't seriously hurt, cause the only thing hurting was the burning on his face. (this is when i offered that he probably wasn't hurt cause he was so drunk, he didn't fight the wave and was just pushed along with it. he didn't argue, just laughed.)
They wouldn't let him stand up. They thought he was hurt worse than he was. Finally, they had him stand, and wanted to see how well he stood. Well, not only was he disorientated, but he was also inebriated, and so of COURSE he was swaying. They suggested he go to the local health center. he refused, saying he'd just go back to the hotel and his wife could bandage him up (they wre just really bad brushburns on his face).
Once he convinced the lfieguards of this, and signed some paper that they had with them refusing treatment or whatever, they started to leave. He wanted to wash all the sand off his back, so he started back towards the water. BAD MOVE! All the lifeguards came running back, put themselves between him and the water and inSISTed he get medical attention. They didn't make him go to a doctor or whatever, but they escorted him from the beach, four of them around him as they walked him to the boardwalk. They had him surrounded like the cops do during those "perp walks" they show on TV. And they stood there while he walked back towards the hotel. And they didn't look happy.
He siad it was the first time he was kicked off a beach by a bunch of lifeguards. But man his face DID look painful, VERY painful. And he said it was.
There's a moral to this story somewhere, but neither or nor I looked for it.

Let's get unconscious honey...
Free association is described as a "psychonanalytic procedure in which a person is encouraged to give free rein to his or her thoughts and feelings, verbalizing whatever comes into the mind without monitoring its content." Over time, this technique is supposed to help bring forth repressed thoughts and feelings that the person can then work through to gain a better sense of self.
That's an admirable goal, but for the purposes of this excercise, we're just hoping to have a little fun with the technique. Each week I'll post ten words to which you can respond to with the first thing that comes to mind.
"Rules are, there are no rules." There are no right or wrong answers. Don't limit yourself to one word responses; just say everything that pops into your head. AND you don't have to have your words up on Sunday. Take all week if you want!
Week 175

Hmm, not really sure what this means...but I think I'm gonna play each week! Got this from Velma's Lounge. Thanks, girl.

You got to show me love...
Random cute guy in rainbow skirt holding bucket for donations.
I LOVE the little kid on the tricycle with the "I love my dads" sign!

Random hot guy handing out something...who knows...who cares?

DC gay aqautic team. Guys in Speedos with water guns, other guys made up like Esther Williams and re-enacting scene from her movies, and, oh, did I mention guys in Speedos? What's NOT to like?

I'm sorry this didn't turn out better. It's froma club or something called Fuego, with a float full of Hispanics, naturally! Hey, any float that has a beauty pagent winner, Indian, cute twinkie wearing a fig leaf and WONDER WOMAN, all Hispanic, is worth a photo, dontcha think?

I don't remember what part of the parade these guys were from, I mean what group they were in...and really is it any surprise? Short briefs, and wings...black wing....its kind of a surprise I remembered to take the photo.
Are they angels...or because of the black, demons? Like i'd care one way or the other, right?

A drag queen all in red with purple hari certainly warrants a photo, don't you think?

I'm not much into the whole cowboy scene, really. But when a flatbed full of them, shirtless, dancing pulls in front of me, well, it would just be disrespectful NOT to take a photo, right?

There's a club down there called Freddie;s. This was the I Love Lucy drag queen riding in front of the float. Upon request, she did Lucy's "WHAAAA!" and made us all laugh.

This is the float behind Lucy, part of it anyway. There were a number of people on it, dancing to the music being played. I, however, and without my surprise I'm sure, was concentrating on these two primarily.

Yeah, I can't recall what this float was for either, but again, I ask, does it really matter?

I I heart PFLAG! Unforunately, the photo taken of me and the PFLAG mom didn't come out. But I DO have a photo of the group as a whole!

And this is the four of us, Ag, Troy, Me and Gar, after the parade. A fun time was had by all. I'm not sure I mentioned it before, but it was Troy and Gar's first time down to Pride, and they were the first gay people I had taken down! so it was a Pride of firsts...of sorts.
