These automatic flowers won't do these...

Earlier this year, in May, I got some flowers and mom and I planted them in planters and in the front "yard". I have, in the past, killed every single plant that I've ever had in my apartment except for one diffinbacia plant. But so far, these flowers have survived nearly three months. It helps, I suppose, when I remember to water them all every evening when I get home from work.

Anyway, over the weekend, I when I watered them, I decided to take photos, to have proof that my black thumb might have turned a shade greener recently.

The purple flower (I think all these are posies? Pansies? Petunias, maybe? Pfft, what do I know about flowers anyway?), he's in the front 'yard' and he's blooming like nuts! He started out with just one bloom, and now he's got like 6 or 7 of them blooming. All at once. He's my favorite.

This is the same kind as the one above, but this one's white. And she's doing pretty well herself.

This is my front 'yard'. Yeah, it's all covered in stones, but there's earth undernearth it. And you can see off on the left the purple flower and on the right, the white one. On either side of the purple one are two yellow plants that were there before I moved in. Also, the tree thingee in the upper right corner was there as well. The other things in there are apparently weeds of some sort. But they were coming in with purple blossoms, and as I like purple, I just let them grow.

And this is a bunch of potted purple and white ones I have sitting on the porch. There is a red colored flower planted between in there as well, but I pulled the blossoms off, cause mom said I was supposed to do that periodically, so new blossoms could grow. But when I last did it, well, the red blossoms still haven't come back. So we'll see what'll happen, if they do or not.

Or if I revert to form and end of killing them before too much longer. Who knows?

Other forms of boredom, advertised as poetry...

We discovered late last year that my grandmother left a few bonds and insurance settlements and other things after she died. We've been filling out paperwork trying to get it. The paperwork says only a parent, spouse, sibling or child can claim the money. So her parents are dead, she had no siblings, she's been divorced since World War II, and her only child died in 2007, all of which points to her only grandson (me) as her only heir. Although, as I mentioned above, grandchildren are not eligible to claim the money.

SO, having filled out the appropriate paperwork and sent it in, we got a call from the State Of Pennsylvania's Treasury Department. Since I was 'only' a grandchild, I wasn't entitled to claim the money. Instead, I had to become Executor Of Her Estate. To do that I had to take a copy of her death certificate, a copy of her will, and my checkbook and got to the Registrar of Wills in the county in which she died. They'll give me a piece of paper to fill out and send back.

Okay.

So this afternoon, mom and I head up to the county courthouse. On the way, mom shows me her folder, that has all the relevant info in. I ask her if she's got the death certificate, she says yes. Since grandma died without a will, we don't have that. And I DO have my checkbook.

We get to the courthouse and have to go through the metal detector at the front door. And thank you very much, Deputy Harris, for being so cute and filling out your uniform so well, giving me something nice to look at while mom went through the machine.

At ANY rate, we get into the Registrar Of Will's office, and talk to this mid level bureaucrat who made it clear she had other, more important things to be doing. We explained the situation, drawing a 'tsk-tsking' when we said we had no will. But mom explained grandmad didn't have one cause she gave the house to dad and then we sold everything so she could stay in the home she was in (and that's a sad story in and of itself, but it's for another time).

So then the lady asked for the death certificate. Mom opened the folder and...couldn't find it. Oh she had a copy of dad's death certificate, she had a laminated copy of grandma's obituary, she had dad's birth certificate, she had about 20 different pieces of paper and forms. And none of them were grandma's death certificate. Apparently she thought she had put it in the folder, when obviously she didn't.

Mom got very frustrated and angry with herself. I started laughing, because it was kinda funny, that kinda stuff really only happens to Mama Polt. The bureaucrat just tsk-tsked again. She did give us two forms, told us she could not help us fill them out, but we'd have to fill them out and and return them, along with $28.50 just to 'open the estate'. It obviously won't be the last of the money needed for this.

But still, in the end, I'll come out ahead. When I get the money. Probably, when I'm done with all these forms and such, that will be 2027 or so.

I'm lazy when i'm lovin...

Today, yeah, it was a good, lazy day.

Slept in until about 10:00. Putzed around online, harvested some sugar cane, took care of.."some business", ate a bowl of Wheaties. Then I showered and headed off to moms.

I played with Angel and read the paper until mom got home. Then we went to Montezuma's for lunch (and yes, for those counting, that was my 4th trip there in 12 days!). We then went back to her house and talked and stuff.

I got back to my place before 2:00, cause it was then that Me-Chell showed up. She had a list of homes and apartments in Waynesboro that she and her boyfriend might want to rent. We just went to see where the places were, not to actually go inside and see them. She'd wait until she and her boyfriend can do that together. We went as far as Tomstown, Country Club Road, and even up by PenMar! We were as close to my house as mom's house is.

We also went to the grocery store and got ravioli, meatballs, sauce and garlic bread. When we returned to my house, we sat around and talked for about an hour, and then I made the pasta and we enjoyed it. Yum. Then we talked for a bit more and watched some crap on TV before she left.

I then basically just sat on my fat ass, putzed around on the computer again and watched some other crap on TV.

Yeah, a wasted lazy day...but after the day yesterday at work, and in fact, the whole entire passed week, yeah, it's worth it.

Stay in my good books....

So recently I finished the last Torchwood book in publication, "Consequences". (see sidebar at the left) The books, all 15 of them (that I read in order, thank you very much), kept me going after the second season before...*shudder*..."The Children Of Earth", and even after that travesty as well. I spaced them out to make them last. Alas, I've devoured them all.

I've seen the Doctor Who books, and not been tempted. I've passed them by on my way to the Torchwood books. But today, when I was in Borders, I walked passed the Doctor Who books again. I saw about a dozen of the David Tennant Doctor books, with both Martha and Donna in them. And then I noticed this:

"Apollo 23", with the new Matt Smith Doctor, and Amy Pond. I figured, maybe with the new Doctor in place, the new Doctor books might be worth reading. So I picked it up. Like I need any other books in my 'to-be-read' pile. But then buying books isn't really about need anyway, is it.

And speaking of this, just saw "The Pandorica Opens". WOW! What a storyline. I'm SO glad I don't have to wait four months to see the conlcusion like you do with US tv shows. I only have to wait until next week!

Then you go downtown i said...

After work today, I went to Sam's (don't judge) to get some things I needed. And as I always do at Sam's, I checked out the books and movies they had. Well, I found Smallville Seasons 7 & 8.

But I thought to myself, I'm only halfway through Season 4, and I haven't actually watched any of it for weeks, and I'm bogged down, unsure if I'm gonna continue viewing what I had.

But then, I said, "But they're only $17.88 each! I mean, that's a STEAL! It's like together, they're half of what I paid for all the other seasons I got!"

And then, I said, "Yes, it's a good deal, but do you NEED them? Will you watch them?"

And then I said, "I might not watch them now, but what if I decided to finish sometime in the future. If I buy them now, I'll have them there already."

And then I said, "But is it worth it to spend the money on the chance you just maybe might watch them at some point in the future?"

And then I said, "But if I DO watch them, how much will I have to pay for them then? If I can even find them?"

And then I said, "But if you never watch them, then you're wasting the money."

And then I said, "But if I DO want to watch them later, I'll never be able to get them this cheap again."

And then, I said, "Aw, hell, I'm gonna get them. Screw it, it's only money."

And then I realized I was standing in Sam's talking to myself. And looking around, I saw people looking at me as I look at the those types of people that hang out in Wal-Mart and Sam's. So I grabbed the DVD sets and scuttled away to get the other things I needed.

So, yeah, now I've got 8 seasons of Smallville. And I'm bogged down in Season 4. Oh well, maybe I'll start it up again. Maybe.

I just don't understand, understand...

So the Republicans line up lockstep to prevent those Middle Class Americans who, because of the recession, have lost their job and been unable to find another, supposedly because it adds too much to the budget deficit. But at the same time, they demand that Bush's obscene tax cuts to the wealthiest, richest Americans, be extended, despite the billions they add to the deficit.
In other words, the Republicans want to ensure those with the most money still get more government help, but they want to just screw over those average everyday Americans who need help the most.
Honestly, how any person making less than $150,000 a year can ever vote FOR a Republican again is entirely beyond me. It's like voting against your best interests. Kinda like a Jew voting for the Nazi candidate or the black man voting for the KKK candidate. It's sheer insanity.
But then, so is the policies and politics of the Republican Pary.

MOTIVATION

POLT
As the four regular readers of the Palace know, I've been kinda 'blah' about blogging lately. Against what I intended, lately, the Palace has turned into little more than a photo-blog. Granted, those photos are uniformly of freakin' hot and sexy guys, but still.

I've been feeling somewhat 'blah'. Nothing like the deep dark pit I fell into in February. And it's not like I'm depressed. I had a wonderful time last night with The Goddess V and "The" Mighty Lee. I enjoyed myself with Mrs. A Local Celebrity, Mr. David ParisPeking last Thursday. I had a fun time with ALMDPP on Sunday with our shopping adventure. It's just, when I don't have anything planned, I just lay around and don't do anything. Which, honestly, isn't all that different from what I do when I'm NOT feeling 'blah'.

I think I just need some excitement in my life. But I want it delivered to me, cause if I have to go out and find it, well, that's just too much work.
