I would not sell my collection, if I did, I would weep (Part 5)...

Today In The History Of Polt's Comic Book Collection!

Forty years ago, in May 1976, The Avengers #147 was published.

This cover is by Jack Kirby, who, while I appreciate his contributions to comic books, has never been a favorite of mine.  However inside it's written by the amazing Steve Englehart and the even more amazing artist George Perez.

This is also one of my favorite Avengers storylines.  It involves The Squadron Supreme, Marvel's take on The Justice League.  The Avengers visit another dimension where there are no Avengers and there is the JLA-esque Squadron.  And the President of the USA is Nelson Rockefeller!

Also it's got a great Avengers lineup of Beast, Captain America, Hawkeye, Hellcat, Iron Man, Moondragon, Scarlet Witch, Thor and The Vision.  It even has The Two Gun Kid and the Whizzer!

I think this is when the Avengers were at their peak, in membership, art, story and characterization.
