In 2004, DC Comics put out a miniseries called "New Frontier".  It took place in the late 40's and early 50s and was about the superheroes around then. It was a pretty good series, and a fun read.  The best part, though, was the art.  It was drawn and written by Darwyn Cooke. It's first time I had heard of him.

The are was very retro, looking like it was from the 50s era.  And it fit the storyline perfectly!

Well, I saw online last Friday that Darwyn Cooke had been placed in 'palliative care', which didn't sound good at all.  And then I saw Saturday afternoon, Darwyn Cooke had died of cancer.

How sad.  He was only 54 years old.  Way too young.  And so talented.

At any rate, here's a pic of the Justice League Of America drawn by Darwyn Cooke in his signature style:

See?  Kinda cartoonish, kinda retro, kinda 50 or 60-ish.  This is the JLA of the 60s.  Clockwise from lower right is Black Canary, Green Arrow, The Flash, mascot Snapper Carr in the background, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, The Atom, Superman, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and The Martian Manhunter.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Cooke.  You will be missed.
