How was my birthday?  Well even thought it's not quite over yet, I'll tell you.

So far, I've received 81 Happy Birthday wishes on Facebook, three Happy Birthday texts, 10 in person Happy Birthday wishes, 7 birthday cards in the mail, and 1 Happy Birthday phone call.  Not a bad haul.

I went into work today on my birthday and then decided to just take tomorrow off and make it a two day holiday (with Thanksgiving on Thursday, or course).  And that decision has absolutely nothing to do with my wish to NOT have to drive in 5-8 inches of snow tomorrow before, during or after work.  Nope, nothing to do with that at all.  Nosiree.

Taking Wednesday off work was kind of my birthday present to myself.  What else did I get gift wise?  Well there was a chance I was gonna get a lil birthday nookie, but that didn't pan out.  Derick did text me and tell me to 'get ready for my birthday gift' the next time I see him.  That sounds like fun.  Also, FDot, sent me this book:

It's amazing!  A bunch of Golden Age Superman comics!  Nice.

Through Sunday Delivery (who knew the USPS even HAD Sunday delivery?) I received the following from Michelle M., Harry M., and the whole flock:

yes, it's a hot water bottle in a sweater cozy.  I think it was meant as an old man joke, but as cold as my feet always are, I'm honest to God gonna use it, when I'm sitting on the couch and my feet are cold, I'm just gonna put under the soles of my feet and keep them nice and toasty warm!

Yesterday, when Mom and I were out and about, she bought me lunch at Red Lobster as my birthday lunch.  And she gave me these:

They were a gift, to help me get over my dissatisfaction with and anger about the lack of customer service at KMart and not getting a TV as I planned.

Then.....

Today, I come home from work, I walk in and see this in my dining room:

I immediately call mom.  And I'm saying to her "What's wrong with you?""You're crazy doing something like this!" "What were you thinking?"  "I didn't take you along yesterday so you could buy me a TV!" "You didn't have to do this!"  And of course I thanked her several times.

I wasn't ungrateful.  But she's done this kinda thing before, bought me big ticket items when I was going to get them for myself.  Her answer always is something like, "You're going to get all my money when I die, but I'd like to be able to see you enjoying it while I'm still alive."  She's such a good woman, a saint.

She said that this was the deal: Since I was going to spend $250 dollars on a 40" yesterday, I could just give her $250 and the rest of the cost would be my birthday gift.  Okay, that I was alright with.  But I told her this was bigger than the one I was looking at.  She said this one, the 42" was on sale and she got it cheaper than what she would have paid for a 40".  So, okay....I've got a 42" TV to get hooked up and the 32" currently in my living up to my bedroom.   Good thing I'm off work tomorrow so I can do all that.

Anyway, that was my Birthday.  All in all, a pretty good one.  And now I have to go back to Facebook and check if I got anymore than 81 wishes.

You say it's your birthday, it's my birthday too!

Yep, today is the day your favorite Polt turns 47 years old.

Here's some nice birthday eye candy for me, and you, to enjoy on this occasion.

But also, there's this....

That means I'm not quite 7 years old in dog years.

47 is the fifteenth prime number.

47 is the atomic number of silver.

47 is the dialing country code for Norway.

On Nov. 25, 1947 the New Zealand Parliament became autonomous of the UK Parliament.

On the day of my birth, Nov 25, 1967, Puerto Rico was placed on Atlantic Standard time.

Who else is 47 years old this year?  Jason Statham, Vin Diesel, Nicole Kidman, Mark "The Hulk" Ruffalo, Julia Roberts, Will Farrell, Carrie-Ann Moss, John Barrowman, Jamie Foxx, Matt LaBlanc, Pamela Anderson, Harry Connick Jr, Gavin Newsom (Lt Gov of California) and Jimmy Kimmel.  I'm in pretty good company.

William B. Bankhead from Alabama was the 47th Speaker of US House or Representatives from 1936 to 1940.  He was also the father of Tallulah Bankhead!

I have no completed 47 complete trips around the sun.

New Mexico became the 47th states in 1912.

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers 34-31, in Super Bowl XLVII in 2013. The 47th World Series took place in 1950 as the New York Yankees beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4 games to 0.  The 47th NBA Finals took place in the 92-93 season when the Chicago Bulls beat the Phoenix Suns 4 games to 2. And in 1997, the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in a four game sweep winning the Stanley Cup in the 47th NHL Championship.

47 US dollars right now will get you 29.95 British pounds, 53.08 Canadian dollars, 288.71 Chinese yuan, 37.82 Euros, 5557.52 Japanese yens, 642.05 Mexican pesos, 2117.09 Russian roubles, and (for Tam) 13.7 Kuwaiti dinars.

Uncanny X-Men #47

Avengers #47

Justice Society of America #47

Justice League of America #47

Legion of Super-Heroes #47

So yeah....here's a birthday cake to me.  It's not really a cake, and it doesn't have 47 candles on it, but it's purple, so that makes it all okay.

SO....

Today was gorgeous, like 70 degrees gorgeous.  I actually took a walk (more on this later).  But as planned, I helped mom do a few things around her house and then she came down here and helped me clean the dining room and kitchen.  This is in preparation for putting up the tree this coming Sunday.

I was also supposed to go visit Theo this afternoon, but that ended up not happening.  So instead, mom and I drove to Chambersburg.  We did some shopping at Kohls, PetSmart, two grocery stores, and KMart (more on this later).  And then we ate at Red Lobster.  Had so much to eat I actually had to take some of it home.  (and yes, I DID have regular soda, and I DID have 4 of the delicious garlic buns, and I DID have deep fried shrimp, and I DID eat the french fries, and I WILL eat that shrimp and linguini alfredo I brought home.  I did have a salad, not that that really matters).  I ate badly, but as mom said, "It's just your birthday dinner a day early."

In similar news, the doctor's office called to get my blood sugar levels over the last two weeks, and after getting them, the doctor upped my daily insulin shot from 18 to 20 units a day.

And then there was Kmart.  In their ad the had a 40" TV for $250, $100 off.  The ad just came out in yesterday's paper.  So we drove up there so I could get one.  We got to the electronics section, and there was no one there.  At all.  And no one around.  So we waited about five minutes and then I went looking for someone.  Half the store away I found a girl who worked there, told her what I wanted and she said she'd page someone for me.  As I walked back to the electronics, I heard the page over the intercom.

I got back to electronics and waited another four minutes. I was right at the point of use walking out when I saw an employee walking towards me.  I asked if he worked in this department, and he nodded.  I said, "Good, cause I've been waiting and was just ready to walk out"  And he said, "Okay, Ill be right with you." And without even stopping, walked right past me and went somewhere in the back.  I looked to mom, totally shocked.  What the HELL?!?!?!?

Had I not really wanted the TV, I would have walked out right then.  It was less than a minute later that the guy came back and I showed him the one I wanted.  He said, "Yeah...we dont have any.  And this morning the nearest store only had two."  And that was it.  Nothing about a raincheck, nothing about any other suggestions to get one.  Not even a "I'm sorry about that."

So that was it for me.  I just walked away.  Mom said something to him about thanks or whatever, but not me, I was outta there.

Except I wasn't. I stopped at the customer desk and told the lady working there what had happened and how horrible the customer service was.  She apologized (what else could she do), and I didn't shout, in fact, I even told her I knew it wasn't her fault.  But dammit it pissed me off.

As we left, mom asked about driving to another Kmart, and I told her, nope.  No way.  I'll watch the ads for other stores to see if I can find another deal, but honestly, I'll pay $100 more for the TV instead of give any of my money to KMart the rest of this year.

I can't add KMart to the Polt's Boycott list over this (well I already have for other reasons, but bear with me), but I'm boycotting them the rest of this year anyway.  If they're employees dont care to wait on customer who want to spend money there, I don't care to spend any money at KMart.

Oh....and I walked 1.16 miles in 17 minutes.
